    On a motorcycle forum I'm a member of there's a lot of debate on these, because in certain parts of US crashes with deer are common, and unfortunately highly likely to be fatal / injuring for the rider.

    General consensus is they don't work, or at least there's no kind of evidence to show they do. Even if the deer do react to them they've no learning / instinct to react in any particular way to a whistling noise.

    I reckon if someone put in a noise like a rifle a rifle bolt closing the deer wouldn't be too long legging it.
