So just thought I'd see what some other ladies think about this. Are you a fan of beards and/or facial hear on guys or do you like clean-shaven all the way? Personally I LOVE a bit of stubble or growth - nothing says Real Man quite like that :D But wouldn't be into the whole ZZ Top look or anything now :) Also not quite sure about unaccompanied moustaches.

Once I swore I would never look at a man with a beard.
In about 2 weeks, I will have been going out with a guy with a beard for 3 years....

    :pac:

    Stubble = sexy!
    Beards = sexy!

Clean shaven = not sure if you have hit puberty yet!

I have always liked men with a bit of facial hair. If they are clean shaven I like it to still have the little stubbly dots on his face so that I know that there's facial hair lurking. :o

My OH has a beard usually. It's gorgeous! He looks strange without one. It completely alters his face! He's still beautiful to me but I always notice when the hair disappears.

I can't stand solo moustaches though. They need to be part of a beard or a goatee. Otherwise it just looks wrong!

I always loved stubble, but only discovered my love of beards with my ex. And is it just me, or are beards storming back into fashion?

    Anyway, for me, it:

    Clean-shaven - Nah
    Stubble - yummy
    Well-trimmed beard - do me now! :D

I get awful beard rash if I spend too long kissing someone with stubble. It does look nice, but I hate having flaky red skin around my mouth... I have been known to send my boyfriend off to shave before bedtime :D

I like men who are bordering on ape-like. Beards, loads of chest hair, I´m not even put off by some hair on backs or bums. As long as the body under it is reasonably fit then there´s no problems.

Ha ha me too! I love my OH's beard! He trims it and its just awesome. I prefer when he doesn't shave anyway cause I'd get beard rash from his stubble till it grows back again! Love his super hairy chest too! lol.:) He is pure man and nothing but! ;)

    Don't like it.

I get awful beard rash from stubble.

Beards are definitely a no-no with me. Don't like chest hair either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,485 ✭✭✭✭Ickle Magoo

I like both beards and/or stubble...not grizzly adams or george michael but on the right man they each look fab respectively...actually clean shaven can be nice too. My fella goes thru phases of having a beard, stubble or clean shaven - suits me, being so fussy & all. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,195 ✭✭✭✭Michellenman

I'm not mad about beards. I have a sensitive skin and beards really irritate it after some kissing :o

I like clean shaven or stubble equally I'd say.. whichever suits the guy I suppose.

I really really really don't like goatees though. Especially those ones which are just stubble shaved in to a pattern - either shave your whole face or don't shave any but why leave bits of it!?

I do quite like some chest hair, a little visable through the open button of a shirt is hot. Nothing gorilla-y now, I don't want to get lost in it, but something short, to play with is fun and sexy.

I like the look of stubble but as previous posters have said the kiss-rash is unpleasant!

My boyfriend goes from clean-shaven to stubbley to grizzley at times, and all can be sooper-sexy ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 682 ✭✭✭illiop

Ah! I LOVE facial hair! Not like Tom Hanks form Castaway but most of the time facial hair makes me melt.

I also really like chest hair but not a fan of back hair. As for bum hair, it's a definate no-no!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭LilMsss

I'm with most of the girls on here ... beards/stubble = sexy! Unfortunately, as one of the other posters mentioned, I have very sensitive skin, so sometimes it's a matter of admiring stubble from a distance :(

Clean-shaven can look really good on some men, but there is something about a man and body hair/testosterone etc. I for one am delighted with this new bearded trend with men.

Goatees or moustaches of any kind are a definite no-no though!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

It depends. The guy I'm currently crushing on has a gorgeous, nicely trimmed well-maintained beard that just makes me weak! A little bit of effort goes a long way. I see guys with raggedy bits of hair/fluff on their cheeks and necks and it does nothing for me. I think this is partially down to my ex who would grow one out of laziness, so when I see straggly unmaintained beards I can't help but think of my ex :(

    Baffling.

bit of stubble can be hot to look at on the right man but can just look dirty and unclean on another. my exes facial hair would grow in patches so he just looked silly :pac: & while stubble can be hot to look at its a bitch when it scratches the face off you :( so id go for clean shaven. dont like the beard look at all.

I'm a big fan of beards,as long as its too long,or not cut into any weird shape.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,713 ✭✭✭✭Novella

Beards don't really do it for me tbph. Not sure why, just naw. Other than that, I don't really mind. Actually, if my boyfriend suddenly decided he wanted a beard, I wouldn't be bothered because I like him regardless. Just in general I don't particularly find beards attractive.

I havent been clean shaven for about 2 years now, I trim my facial hair and the odd time let it grow out a bit but its mostly stubbly, I look wierd clean shaven now lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 250 ✭✭Delicate_Dlite

I may be unpopular here, but well I'm vain, I'll admit it. I don't find beards/Goatees attractive at all. A total 'friend-zone' moment.

I like clean shaven, perhaps with a lil stubble every now and then, (my main fear is the stubble removing my make-up, so if he had stubble there would be a lot less kissing.)

As for body hair, I do enjoy a happy trail... but a hairy back/shoulders would be a turn off for me.

I also don't do long hair on men, again, no matter how cute the man may be, if he's long hair, he's in the friend-zone.

I love stubble on a man. Even the stubble that's slightly turning into a bit of a beard. A full on beard is a no though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,762 ✭✭✭✭stupidusername

I like the look of stubble on some men. Some can pull it off in a rough lookin way, but others just look homeless. But don't like stubble when it comes to kissing, as others have said. It just scrapes way too much!

Don't like beards at all. The mention of a beard makes me imagine an old slobby fat man with no pride in his appearance. I know not all men with beards are like that, so don't attack me! I'm just sayin in general I'd be put off by a beard.

I find men with no leg hair really odd looking, it's just weird. Don't like too much chest hair though. only a bit. Definitely don't like the idea of really hairy backs either. I've never experienced it so can't say for sure, but not a nice thought anyway.I like a decent amount of arm hair, too little is girly, but too much is too ape-like! :)

    Good thread :D
I havent been clean shaved in about 3 years. I just cant do it, im 26 but i lose about 5 years when i shave. So a neatly trimmed beard all the time for me.

    I hate that so much!!

I don't really understand stubble rash either. In 18 months of my ex having a beard or stubble, I never got a rash. And I recently spent quite some time kissing someone with a bit of stubble and, although my face felt a bit tender, there was no evidence of a rash the next day . I have fairly sensitive skin too.

It so depends on the woman's skin. Having possession of facial fuzz myself it has surprised me how variable the reaction can be. Some women and a bare brush off them and it's like they've been snogging sandpaper others not a problem. Whats weird and like you referred to, having otherwise sensitive skin is no real indicator. With some I would have sworn it was hormonal too. One ex just before her period I would have to be real careful. We're all unique I suppose :)

i like facial hair , ranging from 5o clock shadow to trimmed beard, not a grizzley adams beard though.

+1 on the gaotees being odd looking - i'd prefer clean shaven or not shaven at all

moustaches- bit odd looking on their own. having said that, i;ve gotten head from a guy with a moustache and it was extra heavenly ;)

I'm definitely all for a man with stubble, I don't like when my boyfriend says he has to shave he actually apologises because I probably look seriously disappointed he just looks so hot with facial hair not that he doesn't without but I have my preferences! I've never really fancied the clean shaven look to much I don't understand girls that won't kiss their boyfriends unless they are after shaving, poor guys! Moustaches freak me out because a man can look crazy sleazy, I hate goaties they make men look sleazy yet again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,419 ✭✭✭✭jokettle

I think my boy looks great with some stubble, but when it starts becoming a beard...ugh. Plus I hate how the stubble feels if it's any worse than a 5 o'clock shadow!

Beards are no. Most Irish men's beards turn ginger anyway (in my experience), which just looks weird with non-ginger hair! Anything which makes me giggle like that is far from hot :o

    Stubble/small bit of a beard - ftw.

Excellent reading. The only stubble is on my head when I don't shave it for two days or so :D

I've got a full beard, with the chin section a bit longer, so if I grab it in my fist, there'll be hairs poking out the bottom. Seems I'm always wearing a sweater :pac:

I agree with the no goatees thing. I could never see the point. I hate shaving. Always have and have had to since I was 15, so why would I shave in such a precise way? Easier to lop the whole lot off or leave it to grow. That said I grew one once. Well I mean to say I shaved one once. Went from jesus to satan in 5 minutes :D

The beard thing seems to go in waves like any fashion. What does interest me from a biological point of view(feck off :p:D) is why men would have shaved or women ask them to? Facial hair in men is a secondary sexual characteristic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_sex_characteristic#In_humans Like boobs and wider hips in the ladies. Both signals of sexual maturity. True that in some periods of history women taped down their breasts for fashion(eg the flapper era of the 20's) but the beard thing is unusual. If you imagine looking at 2 say 20 year old people at a bit of a distance. "natural" in the wild humans, men and women in the face would not look so different if both have uncut hair. The first thing that would give the game away in men would be the facial hair. The fashion for the completely plucked male chest another wierd one. In a way it somehow infantalises men(like society infantalises women in other ways).

Though different populations don't grow facial hair as easily. Asian and some African men would have a lot less face fuzz than european. The Asian lads would be the most hairless(though I met a japanese lad with the full ronnie drew going on). It even varies among Europeans. I could grow a full beard with no gaps by 16(though it always grew slowly), but wasnt troubled by chest hair until I was in my 30's.

I suppose one reason in touch. Bare skin against bare skin can be more sensual. Though a short beard gives its own sensation. For the guy anyway.

Oh Wibbs, no one else in the world would be able to turn a thread about whether or not women like facial hair into a biological pondering! :P

    Beards and stubble - yes.
Clean shaven makes my boyfriend look about 16.

Only thing I don't like is when a beard is at that certain stage where it pricks your skin at even the slightest touch. SORE!

I've never really fancied the clean shaven look to much I don't understand girls that won't kiss their boyfriends unless they are after shaving, poor guys!

This is probably aimed at me! I do like the stubbly look, but if I kiss a stubbly guy for any length of time it rips up my face. I'm not actually exaggerating, once I came back from a weekend away with the skin around my lips in shreds, everyone kept asking what the hell had happened to me (I pretended I'd had an allergic reaction to moisturiser, I don't think it was very convincing though :o) One of the first nights I spent with my boyfriend he was a bit stubbly, and the same thing happened, I can still faintly see where my skin was torn and it's over three years later! As a result, if there's going to be prolonged passionate kissing I have to ask him to shave first, he understands why.

I have heard that once the hair gets past stubble it's ok cos it's not as scratchy, but none of my boyfriends have ever had fuller beards so I haven't tried it out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭smelltheglove

I hate it when my hubbie shaves, hate it hate it hate it! Love stubble or early growth beard, he's never gone into a full beard btu I like it more the longer he leaves it.

I met my hubbie when my daughter was 1, by the time she was 2 he was living with us. The first time he shaved after he moved in she looked at him and roared her eyes out crying, she wouldnt go to him for a couple of days it upset her so much. Even now 6 yrs later she doesnt like it when he shaves, she helps me beg him not to shave!

+1. I hate beards, but loooovvveee stubble. Unfortunately even a five o'clock shadow leaves me with stubble rash very quickly. My poor BF has midday shadow and suffers badly! However after seeing my face ripped apart he is more then happy to shave.

I love stubble although it doesn't seem to like my face.

If the man is young looking a smooth face can make him look even younger and you look like a cougar

Beards for me are a nono cause my dad has always had a beard, it kinda freaks me out - all that hair. Some men are totally hot with a beard though!

Generally let the beard grow and shave it off once a month... find it makes my face look slimmer so there's a bit of a vanity thing in there heh.

Few of the ladies I've been with said they either never really noticed it, or liked the feel of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 322 ✭✭Apolloyon

I never knew there was so much beard love going around! Girls are constantly telling me to shave it off. :(

Even my sister when we meet up tells me how she doesn't trust men with beards! Is that a hint or what?

I've had my beard off and on since I was about 20 and I've had this 'version' since 2007. It's good to know that there are some ladies out there who like them!

Anyone who has seen me recently will know I'm currently sporting a handlebar moustache and sideburns.

I've had nothing but good comments from both guys and ladies, and those who have been close enough to feel the handlebar moustache against their skin have not complained in the slightest.

So I think it's all down to personal preference here
