Heya folks. Let's see your votes for the best up & coming Irish Alt/indie/rock bands "on the scene" at the moment...

especially the ones who put on a good live show...

By a million miles, my choice would be Little Green Cars.

They're incredibly proficient (the keyboardist is a celebrity in India) and the songwriting is very strong - put on a great live show too, I've played with them many times :p

The Shakes and Biplanes would be personal favourites...

Cloud Castle Lake, Squarehead, My Mind Races, Enemies, Twin Kranes, Wounds, Market Force, Adebisi Shank, Bats, Noveau Noise, Patrick Kelleher, Catscars, Hunter-Gatherer, the list goes on and on...

I found them rather boring and repetative. Their good for what their playing but when i think indie or alt i like something that you can dance around to not something that i'd want to sit around drinking while watching.

Really? Maybe the energy doesn't come through very well on the recordings, but their live set is anything but something to sit around drinking to.

Another vote for Squarehead. A real talent.

I love Enemies, think they're on the richter collective. Similar to the redneck manifesto and ten past seven (who are ridiculously fúcking good- are they signed to anyone?)

I've heard these guys are great but I've yet to check them out. They're on the Richter Collective aren't they?

Yeah they are on Richter. If you're into that kind of thing they do a terrific live show.

I saw Jogging last week and thought they were great, I think they're on Richter as well? Nouveaunoise would probably be my pick though.

NN were easily the best thing at TP last night... Easily... Squarehead are not very good in my opinion.

Plenty of great signed and unsigned bands here (Warning. Very Dublin centric):

I found that to be very underwhelming.

There's some good stuff on it, but it's pretty slight.

As in you find all the bands in the article underwhelming or the podcast of bands?

Hands Up Who Wants To Die, BATS, adebisi, jogging are pretty good too

I was underwhelmed by most of those bands, based on the chosen tunes.

There were a few good things, a few ok things, but I found most of it slight and unmemorable.

    IMO of course.

    http://www.myspace.com/thecoonics
    http://www.myspace.com/thecastofcheers

Few other i can think of deserve mentions but these 4 in my opinion

Loving the Irish Music scene at the min.

My favourites have to be Miracle Bell, Heathers, Funeral Suits, Oddsocks Revival, The Hot Sprockets, The Bona Fide Federation

    sooooo many more!

The Hot Sprockets are great, a mighty good live band. Really looking forward to the results from their album sessions in Portugal.

Seen the Funeral Suits before but never really took them in, I need to see them again but I liked what I heard at the time. They've supported a few bands I've seen the last year but I've always missed them bar the once.

Adebisi Shank are a sight to see live, great musicians and very tight performers.

Don't know what the crack is with this band but Grand Canal were a decent little (albeit big) band when I saw them twice the end of last year. Very catchy melodies.

I checked out Planet Parade in the Roisin Dubh last Thursday and they were very good.

Local band C!ties from Ennis are a bit too good for their age (3 members are about 18, I think). They play electronic, instrumental kind of music - kind of like Battles.

You can listen/download their EP for free from: http://cities.bandcamp.com/

    Well worth a listen

Absolutely. I'd heard the name quite a bit recently and just happened to pass Tower as they were about to start. Really great.

The Ambience Affair are currently recording their album, looking forward to hearing it. They're one of my favourite bands in this country to watch live. Captivating! http://www.myspace.com/theambienceaffair

I saw them a while back and wasn't that impressed by the music, but they certainly were entertaining. A natural live act I think.

    +1 for The Ambience Affair!

They've been sitting in our top friends list on MySpace for a year.... great band... (though I wish your man would just shave his head... very very distracting)

    and +1 for Nouveaunoise...

I really hope they can tap into that Flying Lotus market, as they're really good.
