I went to Barcelona last year with my boyfriend. We were on the way to a chocolate factory :) and I passed by an ATM and there was money sticking out. I grabbed it and ran. €220 . Some eejit must have been so mad about leaving his money there!! :D Shopping spree, free entry to Camp Nou, and a nice slap up meal. Definitely one of the high lights of my trip!

This happened to me a number of years ago, I went to the ATM machine and there was €200 at the machine, I had seen the woman who had just used it and she was heading into the bank. I ran after her and gave her the money, she seemed to be a bit frazzled and tense.

It wasn't mine so I had no problem giving it to the person who owned it.

I remember using an atm in Dunnes Stores these machines required you to remove your credit card before you continued with your transaction there was an eldery gentleman using it before me and seemed to have a bit of trouble working it eventually he gave up and walked of , when I took my turn the machine had up what amount I would to take out ....the man had forgotten to press cancel It would have been so easy for me to take his money but I just cancelled it out back to insert card screen (even if it was so tempting I just could not do that to the poor old gramps)

My point is all atms should be standard

And OP I did hear that before about the money being sucked back in never personaly witnessed it and I would be too afraid to road test it in case I didnt get money back

Last week I came across a card still lodged in an ATM, could have accessed everything in the account. I took it out and handed it into the bank.

Surely you'd have to know the PIN to access everything in the account...?

Ah you outstanding member of society you! Good on you though for not clearing him out, I'm sure there's many a people out there wouldn't have thought twice about it...

ATMs do suck money back in, one night I was out we stumbled to the cash machine to get some funds, some sort of typical drunk antic happened while I was getting my money, distracted me from it for a bit and then the money disappeared back into the machine... either that or one of my b*stard mates swiped it on me when I wasn't looking

In this case the PIN had already been typed in and there was options on the screen, who ever took a withdrawl just walked away.

This was inside a shopping CTR beside an Ulster bank, im sure if I decided to make a withdrawl bank staff could have checked time stamps on CCTV and matched them up with the machine.

Never had it hapen to me thank God.

When I was in Laos I was standing behind a girl in line for the ATM and the ATM's there are woeful, like after hitting withdraw you could easily be waiting up to 5 minutes for it to dispense your money. She stood there for ages but it went back to the welcome screen so she just assumed that it wasn't going through, about 30 seconds after she would away several hundred thousand kip (about 200euro) popped out. I was absolutely broke at this stage and it was very tempting but I just thought how annoying it would be if it happened to me so I ended up running down the road after her.

She bought me a bottle of the Finest Laos Whiskey in gratitude.

I did that once in boots in jervis. Halfway up henry street before I even copped.
Luckily the girl was keeping an eye out for me and had kept my stuff behind the counter, lovely of her :)
