Anyone had a 'bomb' put under their car recently?

My poor single female friend who just moved into her first house in Crumlin, had some toe-rag put a hoax device under her car around midnight last week. The whole street had to be evacuated and garda time wasted. She is now very rattled.

Has anyone else had this experience?

What do you do that is so significant?

Oh, wait, maybe you're an engineer. You might have built a machine that packages cups.

Cups that get sent to McDonalds.

The point is, the hierarchy we implement within ourselves for achievement is artificial and not necessary. It gives some people an inflated sense of self worth while degrading others.

    More simply put, pathetic.

Though I support the campaign against fake tan, I can't say I approve of this latest development.

As if anyone in Crumlin is smart enough to make a car bomb.

Let me guess, it was an empty box of cornflakes with "TNT" written on it?

Apparently it was a brick, wrapped in a bin liner with bits of wires coming out of it. Thrown under her car by a car driving by. Asbos.

Unfortunately he's not too far off. I live in Drimnagh (right beside Crumlin) and it does happen quite a bit. To be honest they are always hoaxes though!! Perhaps there's some truth in what Kiera is saying. An intelligent Northsider? Who would have imagined.....

No, but once when I was about 7 I heard about all the car bombs in Northern Ireland. My mom went into the supermarket to get groceries, locking the car because I decided to stay inside. I heard a big *CLUNK* noise under the car and I thought someone stuck a bomb under it :o I was shitting myself. Very relieved when my mom came back to the car after what seemed like an eternity

I can just imagine it now....

Caller: I think there's a bomb under my car.
Operator: Why do you think it's a bomb?
Caller: Well, it's a fairly large object with wires sticking out of it.
Operator: Ok, so you're not 100% sure if it's a bomb?
Caller: It looks like a bomb, I'm afraid it's going to go off.
Operator. Yeah but you're not 100% sure it's a bomb?
Caller: I think it is, I'm ****ting myself here!
Operator: Well we could send an EOD team out with a Garda escort to make sure, considering the suspect device is located in a residential area but.... You're not 100% sure so sort it out youself. Goodbye.

Get a grip. If someone locates a suspect device, EOD has to answer the call out. The street is cordoned off because you can't take a chance with a device exploding in a residential area. You'd be complaining if EOD didn't answer all the call outs they recieve.

Living in mortal fear of another plastic-wrapped brick being thrown under her car?

Maybe someone was taking their brick on a walk, and put it into a bag to keep it dry. Thats the only logical conclusion to this whole episode.

I would harldy class a brick as a large object and any member of the "army" would know as soon as they looked at it that it was not> the PSNI would cop straight away it was a brick but to be fair they have more experience,

I dont whats worse this thread or the irish "army" members/fans jumping on the old band wagon

Its great to see you giving out about something without mentioning the croke park agreement and the civil servant pay cuts

God help us if Ireland ever went to war

Ok then, a more than likely rectangular device wrapped in a bin liner with wires sticking out is going to look like a bomb to any civilian looking at it. So the EOD lads get the call asking for help with what is a suspect device etc. so they have to go and deal with the call out. As a precaution, the street is cordoned off before the EOD Officer approaches the device. Obviously once he gets there, he'll realise it's a brick, the cordon will be lifted and everyone goes home. Is there something that just isn't registering with you? Like, please explain to me what is exactly the problem?

Our EOD teams are a lot busier than the PSNI consideing the PSNI don't deal with EOD up North.

I dunno where you pulled the Croke Park Agreement or pay cuts from, especially since I've posted on quite a few occasions that I full agree that pay cuts are necessary. However, I'd imagine you're trolling at this stage so jog on.

Am not trolling. I didn't research your post history prior to commenting. I know several members of the defence forces and all of them moan about pay cuts work load etc i was generalising for that i apologise!
