Their change of mind doesn't warrant any cookie points. I suspect the change came from the impending doom of losing a lot of potential buyers.

xbox still €100 more expensive, less powerful, and relies on kinect. Still no. Just scrap what you have Microsoft and come back to the table in a year and a half with a new, more powerful console, retailing at a comparable price to the ps4.

They really made a shambles of it. Pre-ordering my PS4 soon just so I can have it paid off before summer, XBONE was just a disappointment flat out.

I imagine that they were just expecting Sony to announce always online, no second hand games etc, then when Sony didn't Microsoft realised they were idiots!

The role reversal between Sony and Microsoft this time around is actually hilarious.

    Take last generation:

Microsoft - Coming off the back of a console that not many people bought, humble (well, as humble as an American mega-corp can be), cheaper price, XBL gave people what they wanted.

Sony - Coming off the back of the most successful console in history, arrogant "Shur they'll buy it anyway!" attitude, crazy expensive console, pretty atrocious online environment by all accounts.

    Now:

Microsoft - Coming off the back of a crazy successful console, arrogant "Shur they'll buy it anyway!" attitude (just look at their PR for the past few weeks FFS), XBL still arguably ahead of Sony.

Sony: Coming off the back of a successful console, humble attitude, lower price, seem to know what gamers want.

XBL v PSN, maybe XBL is better.

But seeing as you have to pay for XBL, XBL v PSN+, Sony owns it imo :P

    Sh*t, you're 100% right. I must admit I'd forgotten PS+ was mandatory now.

Yeah, but all those free gayuummms. Worth it, I'd say.

It kind of sucks, but if PS+ is as good on PS4 as it was on PS3 I don't mind paying for it.

    Dem free gayuuuums!

I should clarify that I wasn't using the mandatory PS+ as a mark against PS4. I think Sony would have been monumentally idiotic not to go down that route.

Has anyone else played "The Last of Us"? It's drawn me in. I haven't had this much fun with a zombie game in forever!

I ordered it off amazon on the 7th and it's showing as "Dispatched" since the 12th. I have a feeling I'll never see that copy of the game.

Seen bits of gameplay of it and it looks very good. I will probably wait for a price drop before I get it though!

Currently deciding what game to get once I get through Dark Souls.

Deciding between Batman Arkham City, Bioshock 1, Borderlands or Dead Space. Hmmmm

One does not simply get through Dark Souls, you must always go back. There is always more to do.

Oh yeah I certainly intend on going back for a NG+. I still have a tonne left to get through, at New Londo Ruins at the moment.

I was actually genuinely surprised by how much I love it!

Mandatory PS+ has now sold me 100% on going PC again for this generation... My 2008 build has served me well, and for the cost of the Xbone I can bring it up to scratch again.
I don't feel like Sony needs to charge for PSN, like oh of course it'll be profitable and make them more money but I mean come on, Steam won't charge a subscription fee and it's twenty times the service XBL or PSN will ever be.

People keep telling me XBL was better than PSN, but I always saw them as identical and to be honest just assumed that was a weak justification for paying for XBL... the main thing I disliked about the PS3 was the constant firmware updates

This is a quite excellent summation of what I've been starting to realise lately:
    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/7161-Perfect-Pasta-Sauce

Take RPG's. The vast majority seem to be fantasy based, with elves, goblins, murlocks, et al. I liked Skyrim, but really once you've played one 200+ hour fantasy RPG you've played them all. (seriously, I played DA:O and apart from the characters and more open world feel, Skyrim felt the exact same) Surely I can't be the only one that wants more RPGs set in space, or the real world? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, but I can't remember the last time I've ssen a game that let's me walk around a modern day city in an RPG style.

Even the games I'm really interested in in the coming months, namely Watch_Dogs, insist in heading down the always connected, play with your friends, have real people in your gameworld all the time. I don't want that. I want massive single player experiences that I can get lost in, alone. I don't get why that's suddenly become the worst thing in the world. I don't get why EVERY god damn game is incorporating some for of social gaming or other such bollox.

    End of rant.

I think I'm just getting jaded or something. Hopefully these new consoles will allow more diverse games.

So I was randomly browsing the developer catalogues on Steam and came across this game. So I went for an LP to see if it was any good...

Jesus... what developer in their right mind thought that voice acting was acceptable?

That's just downright laziness and shoddiness. :(

I do indeed. Alas, I've been trying to work on something else for the past while so it's been rather neglected. :(

It'll be back with a vengeance at some point though. :P

Only played Far Cry 3, considering I laughed my ass off when I seen it at E3.. After playing I swiftly bit my tongue. Extremely fun game. Plenty to do and the Campaign is decent. If it was my money, for 15 quid you definitely can not go wrong.

I'd go for Sleeping Dogs if it were me. One of my GOTY candidates for last year. So, so much fun. The fighting is really satisfying when you get the hang of it, and you can feel like a right bad ass taking down fifteen guys one after the other by smashing their heads into fans, slamming them into phone booths, breaking their knees or just flooring them with a massive combo of kung-fu! Pretty good story and soundtrack too.

Arkham would be second for me, then Far Cry, then Bioshock which is only last as I haven't played the other games in the series so don't know much about the series at all.

not enjoying it as much as i did 3 but can't for the life of me pinpoint why.

seeing as i don't have a ps3 i've been watching the "two best friends play" playthrough of the last of us on youtube. That game looks beautiful.

Has anyone got suggestions for beating Manus in Dark Souls? His dark magic attacks seem to drink my stamina like water :pac:

Do you have the Cloranthy ring? It gives good stamina regen. The crest shield will be effective against his magic or you could use the grass crest shield for a further stamina boost! Tis not much advice but it's all I got!

Edit - Do you have the Silver Pendant? Also the Mask of the Child will again help with stamina, I believe you can buy it off a vendor but I can't say which one!

I have the pendant but the time frame for deflection is fairly short so I dont use it. I think the problem is my weaponry as well, he doesn't hang around to get hit for long...
