Every year in the last few days before the LC, students start to panic and second-guess the examiners, particularly with regards to prescribed poetry.

Yes, it's far too obvious that Boland will be on the paper, but guess what, it was too obvious that Rich would be up in '08 and Plath in '07 and guess what? They were both up :P Nobody can guarantee anything, but all last-minute worry aside, she is statistically the most likely. There is a female poet on every year, yeah they might go away from that this year but again, chances are they won't. Every other year students thought they'd be the ones to get shafted, it's very unlikely that a female poet won't be on the paper tomorrow.

As for the fact they didn't have a picture-related essay on P1 today for the first time in yonks, i'd say that makes it less likely they'll spring a surprise tomorrow ;)

Hopefully that'll put some of the last minute worriers at ease, don't attack me if i'm wrong! Best of luck!

Kavanagh and Boland very well,Longley pretty well but not as many quotes and riche just as a failsafe incase the **** hits the fan:D

^ Same. Although Boland has been tipped all year, and I know her the best I'm still rather worried. It's hard not to be, I guess!
Putting my foot out here. But Boland is the most likely to be on the Paper.

Be careful with Longley. If I was you, I'd study Kavanagh or Boland as well tonight.

BOLAND YEATS possibly KAVANAGH/LONGLEY..... Mostly Boland or Yeats.. Otherwise i am monumentally continentally and quite simply screwed

But Boland hasnt been since like 2005 or something.... so good chance...

Although, Boland COULD have been on last years original one.. so even if she wasnt asked in the one they sat, she might have lost her turn... please god no..

    I dont know anymore..
    Why am i still here?
Why am i writing 'why am i still here?'?

    Im going to study

there's a 1 in 14 chance thet you''ll be screwed if you only study 3...scary but there is worse odds i guess....

You can't speculate on mathematical probability because their is patterns etc making them more likely to come up than another.

She wasn't on last years. The female was the same.

My teacher has heavily tipped Eliot, but i don't like him.

I'm doing Boland and Rich to be on the safe side, then Longley, Yeats and Kavanagh just so I have a choice :)

Doing 4, Boland, kavanagh, Longley & Walcott.

I thought theoretically, I'm covered, since there's 7 poets (I think) on the course and they give you four options. But, seeing so many people doing 5+ poets is making me worried that I am wrong about this....

there's 8 so mathematically to be sure of one coming up you need 5...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭DancingQueen:)

I know two really well and if I had to i'd be able to write about two others if I had to. It would be seriously bad luck if the other four came up >.<

by Cherokee 15 from native american friends pages

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy; they didn't know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.

“where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“This is heaven" declared a small boy.
"We’re spending Christmas at God's house”.

When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad.
“then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe,
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!
“May this country be delivered from the hands of fools
” “I’m taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!
“Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“Come now my children let me show you around.
“Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“in the midst of this darkness,” I AM STILL THE LIGHT
