Preferably the away and I wouldn't mind getting a name and number either. Anyone spotted it in any sports shops or are they still all only doing every jersey but the England one?

I would presume so as most Irish folk wouldn't wear one in a fit and the amount of English folk looking to buy one in Cork would be tiny. I would think any of the sport shops would order one for you no probs though if you gave them a deposit.

For the name and number i would suggest buying online. While a sport shop may be able to print, they may not have the correct/official numbering an font.

I presume the FA website carried links (but i couldnt be bothered looking ;))

I know a few Irish people getting England jerseys. Thought the times were-a changing :) I wonder would it just be cheaper to order it myself in that case.

fair play for not having a problem wearing an england shirt... Everyone in this country idolises all things british but most will abuse u for wearing their shirt, goons!

I had one for the last WC. Wore it the other day in the city and got no hassle at all. Course I'd avoid going around dodgier areas on my own. It's not like I'm an imperialist. I'm just a football fan who wants to support his team.

Really annoys me when people give out about wearing England Shirts. Get over it, the football team has nothing to do with the penal laws ffs:D

I'm gonna be cheering when england score in the world cup (if they score!!). I love in London and England has afforded me more opportunities work wise and socially then cork could, thats why i left. Why shouldn't we show support for out neighbours!

It's funny how you "can't" wear an English Jersey, yet every 2nd Joe will wear an english club jersey and get so involved in supporting the club to the point of being in tears when they loose!

Still wouldn't wear an English one meself though :P

Maybe try Finns, Kold? It's just at the left if you're turning from Washington Street onto Grand Parade (for Argos).

That's quite surprising, but good to read.

During the last world cup, I saw a boy wearing an England football jersey going into Parc ni Caoimh with Beckham written on the back. Personally I cannot abide that anti-english anti-brit aspect of some Cork people. It is time to move on and get over the past.

I'd only arrived in Cork a few weeks in the summer of '05 and was in the comedy club in Coburg St one Saturday night. The comedian on stage mentioned something about England, the English or the England football team and a large part of what was a big crowd, hissed and booed for a good thirty seconds, which seemed a whole lot longer. I'm not English, but this shocked me & its an experience I'l likely never forget.

Coburg St. is one of those city centre locations where I would not advise wearing the England shirt.

I certainly don't idolise all things British, and I wouldn't abuse anyone for wearing an England shirt either. Also, much of what you are calling "abuse" is most likely light-hearted banter.

So nobody's actually spotted someone selling the jersey in the city? Prob order it but not sure of this site's delivery time.

Going with Lennon on the back :D

Yeah, you'd get abuse from the customers of Brannigans... a Liverpool supporters pub.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

Does Brannigans still exist? I remember going there when I was in Bruce a good number of years ago.

Sure does. It changed its name for a while but it's Brannigans again.

Ordered one last night. Gonna take 2 weeks so we'd better make it through the group stages lol. Got Lennon on the back.

    I take it you're English ?

    ........ and a Spurs fan ?

Yup. But Spurs fan aside I think Lennon is going to turn some heads. He's an absolute beast of a winger.

The only time I have had abuse wearing an England shirt was a few years back when I went into a bar that I had been drinking in regularly. There was an Irish match on in the afternoon & England where on in the evening. As soon as I walked in the bar one guy came up to me harrassing me about my shirt. I don't think he was going to get violent but he was definitely aggressive over the fact. In that situation it doesnt come across like light-hearted banter.

I've seen quite a few people walking around town in England jerseys and never seen them get any hassle but once alcohol becomes involved it could be a different story.

I'm not sure of England friendly pubs but Costigans will show the games, they are supporting Spain for the world cup though.

I've watched England games in O'Keefes before but wasn't wearing a jersey at the time.

English folks wearing English jerseys is perfectly normal, I find it weird why any Irish person would be wearing one though to be honest.

Can you not get it in Champion Sports or Lifestyle Sports or one of them??

I wouldn't wear a jersey from any other nationality but it is something that seems to be a regular occurrence here. I have seen loads of people walking around in France/ Argentina jerseys.

I agree. I wouldn't give my English mates stick for wearing an England jersey obviously, but I would torture my Irish mates. An Irish person wearing an English jersey just screams "attention seeker." "OOH look at me and how I'm so above this Irish English rivarly thing." Pathetic..

The only foreign jersey I'd wear is Italy. For two reasons. 1) They always look cool. 2) My grandfather's italian.

I won't be supporting England in the world cup. Not becuase of the 800 years sh1t, simply because I don't like them. Their players are sex addicted chavs. No class.

    Italia all the way!

True, personally I don't wear any club or county jersey be it rugby, GAA or soccer (however I do own a Robbie Fowler t shirt or two) but if I was to wear an Argentina jersey in cork no one would think I was anything but a Cork dude wearing an Argentina jersey, however if I was to wear an English jersey folks may well think I am English. Being Irish, that wouldn't suit me.

That's not anti English either so I hope no one starts that sh1t.

I wouldn't see that as anti-English, it's your choice what jerseys you choose to wear as are your reasons behind it.

Wearing it just for attention is pathetic, but thinking the England rivalry thing is just ridiculous is not pathetic.

I don't think you guys are anti English or obsessed with the 800 years thing, but you still come across as a bit hostile about the England jersey-wearing thing. I mean, if it's acceptable for an Irish person to wear an Italy jersey, why not any foreign jersey, including an England one?

If I answered the bit not in bold it may come across in such a way that you reconsidered the bit in bold so I won't ;)

I can't understand why an Irish person would wear an English jersey, I suppose it's all that Three Lions malarchy, dunno really. The English soccer jersey obviously carries emblems and whatnot that the English folk are rightly proud of, as an Irish chap I couldn't really agree with Irish folk wearing one, unless they had English parents or something :)

Oops, I answered it :o I'm playing a stormer tonight, I reckon I may have bothered folks in the armed response thread too :o

I backed Spain to win the World Cup a few hours ago, fairly big bet on a favourite which is against all of my betting principles but if 'twas a league they'd be 6/4 I reckon. Also had a bet on a Brazil / Spain final, if Spain beat Brazil in the final I'll be tempted to get a Spanish jersey :D
