    Some really encouraging results there.

Brian Gregan and Gordon Kennedy won their respective 400m races in Holland. If my Dutch is correct, Gregan ran 46.87 while Kennedy won his race in a marginally faster 46.86.

With a legal wind! Fantastic stuff. He said on the NI Athletics report that he's sure he can go into 10.2x region before the year's out!

Great running from Kennedy getting closer and closer to that qualifying standard hopefully can chip away at that .11 and get it

Brian Murphy ran 47.28 at the same event. There is potential this year for more than just Gillick and Gregan to be competing in the individual 400 at Barca. In fact, I'd say it's quite likely! Great stuff!

Delighted for the Women's 4x100m Team. There's a bit of depth in women's sprinting at the moment, so with a few more competitive races they will certainly shave a bit more off that time

PB in the heats of 10.63

The outstanding Irish performances from the British Milers Club meeting in Watford last night were arguably PB’s for the following:

    800m:
    Anthony Leighio 1.49.05
    Conor Healy 1.49.89

    1500m:
    Paul Robinson 3.43.83
    Hazel Murphy 4.14.54

    5000m
    Joseph Sweeney 13.54.6
    John Travers 14.15.6

    Other noteworthy performances were by
Fionnuala Britton (9.55.4). David McCarthy (Le Cheile – 1.48.90) and Alan O’ Brien (1.48.92)

On the basis of their performances both Paul Robinson and John Travers are potential finalists for the forthcoming World Junior Track & Field Championships.

Just wondering...is there any metaphororical gun we can hold to these 400m runners heads to compete in the nationals?
Will athletics Ireland take three 400m runners if two of them finish third and fourth in the nationals? distinctly possible..Gillick for win and maybe Murphy will split Kennedy and Gregan.

You would like to think it will be a straight gun fight with the top finishers of Gregan, Kennedy and Murphy getting the two slots with Gillick assuming Kennedy and Murphy get the standard. Would make for a great race.

Gillick will most likely do 200 at nationals, he'll have good competition from Russel, Graham and Colvert

Mary Cullen and Joanne Cuddihy out of Team Champs. :( Blow to the team, replaced by Niamh Whelan and Marian Andrews.

Interestingly, Justine Kinney is listed as competing in the 400mh and 4x4 relay. Always thought she was British. Was born in 1988 and has run 57.13 this season.

Why draft a new British girl in when she is not demonstrably better than Bronagh Furlong?
I hate it when this happens, sends all the wrong signals

she's pretty cute..wouldn't mind being the one to 'introduce' her to irish athletics:D:D:D:D:D

Very interesting womens 100m hurdles with Derval running against susanna Kallur from sweden , who is back after a stress fracture.....
Kallur ran 12.79 last week in New York ... which was only her second race back from injury..... looks to be back on form..... it will be interesting to see how Derval does against her...... with Kallur showing good form dosent look good for Derval's Gold at the european's ?????... but then again Derval always surprises us in major championships........

    Eh?

She's run more than half a second faster than Furlong, so there's no ambiguity as to why she was selected.

Why isn't Gregan in the 4x4?

    Be interesting to see how all the relays do, girls sprint relay is looking good and the mens could be decent as well with some serious u23 domestic competition tihs year and Jason Smyth running some serious times. I think the best team would be;

    Adams/Hession/Russel/Smyth

Bit of a Hamstring problem. Dont think it is major but is a bit of a precautionary measure

    Adams/Hession/Russel/Smyth

Article on Jason Smyth on Barcelona 2010 website says that Smith can only run first leg.

Half second isn't so significant in womens 400h. Bigger question is how you weigh up the potentially once off benefit of this acquisition against the long term development of the event.

Well this girl is 2 years younger than Brona and can provide competition for places which could be a good thing?

Can be dangerous to focus on specific cases...bigger question is really what is policy regarding transfers like this? What are the criteria for selection in terms of showing long term commitment? What accountability does the athlete have to the Irish "system"? [In this case, Brona is very much in the development category and has shown good championship temperament - remember Turin last year? Yes this girl has run a bit faster than her and this of course should generally be the key factor in selection, but I think it is healthy to question certain things when someone who had previously definitely been aligned to GBR suddenly pops up on an Irish team]. By the way, does anyone know what Irish club this girl has registered with?

On a slightly different point, it would be good to get some transparency around why in any case the fastest athlete in the event in 2010 has not been selected - maybe there is a very good reason, but it would give the selection system a lot more credibility and take away suggestions of impropriety if for example in cases where the fastest athlete is injured, this is published or if there is another legitimate reason for non-selection, this is also published!
