Do anyone know/have opinions about PS2 games being remastered for PS3 like the way the God of War Collection was done

I think they're a bloody great idea if they're affordable... I'd find it hard to part with my cash it it was just 1 game for £20, but 2 for that price (or well under if you shop around) is well worth it.
If they do Ico/SotC on one disc I'd snap that up in an instant!

GoW collection was good for me seeing as I was able to sell my PS2 originals on ebay and then buy the PS3 version with a bit of change left over:p

Do you have any opinions on the matter?

ya more of it i say, as long as they are made affordable, playing gow collection at the moment and never played them before. looks great remastered.
it would be a good idea from sonys side if they released the top 20-30 most sold ps2 games back in the day on ps3 remastered(call it classic platinum or something)

A top 25 list. There is a few on there I would like done. FFX, MGS 3 and Silent Hill 2 for example.

Toca race driver 3, still no decent driving games on the PS3. Also Timesplitters Future Perfect

ya i think there is a big market there to be honest mate, there are people like myself that just missed out on the first 2 gow and think this is a god send, and i am sure there ae alot of people like myself that missed out on classic games like sadow of the collossus and ico

imagine how many people will be in awe with those games when the last guardian comes out and everyone wants some more of the same

p.s. i have missed out on mgs series and have been told to stay away from metal gear 4 until i have atleast played the first one(fingers crossed on that series)

God Of War Collection is a must have as far as I am concerned so I wouldn't be against it. I would also like to see PS1 games jazzed up a bit also :)

I'd love them to bring out a gta collection of 3, vice city and san andreas. Put them all in HD it would be amazing.

Kingdom Hearts Collection would be great, Persona Collection too, Project Zero/Fatal Frame Collection in High Def would be intense. Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Just redo MGS1 for the MGS trilogy and I would be happy.

The other two still look pretty decent.

A remastered boxset of the 3 PS2 GTA games would sell very well i reckon.

I'm glad they brought out the GoW collection. Never played them when i had the PS2 but im glad i havent missed out.

Why aren't there any fun games like Crash 2,3 or Crash Bash on ps3 :(

Because they weren't all that good to begin with. New Super Mario Bros and the Mario Galaxy games on the Wii are more than enough for me. You could try the ratchet and clank games although I found they weren't great you might like them like the majority of people.

Pfft! Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 are sublime and CTR is a great thrilride with endless hrs of fun. Pfft!

For what it's worth both Crash 3 and Crash Team Racing are on the Playstation Store for a about 6quid each.

Metal Gear Solid was essentially remade for the Gamecube as Twin Snakes but that game's forever lost as it's now a "rarity".

    So anyways, suggestions are :
    • Grand Theft Auto III/Vice/San Andreas collection
    • Silent Hill Collection
    • Resident Evil
    • Kingdom of Hearts collection
    • Metal Gear Solid collection
    • Final Fantasy

I'd imagine GTA is a possibility surely? Though they'd have done it by now and doing it so long after GTA IV has been out might not seem plausible as the GOW collection was to coincide with the third one I think. Was Kingdom of Hearts a big seller? I know it's grat and all but would it shift units? Silent Hill Homecoming I don't think rated too well so that might've died off. Resident Evil 5 was out last year. Again, would've been a great time for a collection set though I suppose the God of War one only just came out a while ago.

Metal Gear Solid 1-3 was re-released in America but never made it here. Damn shame the Twin Snakes isn't available especially since MGS 4 kida requires previous knowledge of the back story. At the least they should get Subsistence out even to just break that poxy ebay market of guys trying to get a few hundred quid for it. Snake Eater's great with the proper camera angle but not worth the ebay prices.

Also would love to see a Jak game, never liked the Ratchet and Clank too much

Some of the games you guys want redone were also released on the PC. So if you have a half-decent pc, or in some cases a 5 year old one, you can play the PS2 games in HD right now! If you have the equipment, just set the output to your HDTV and get a ps3 pad adapter and there you go! You just remastered it yourself!

    PC games include:
GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas - Scale perfectly. I played them at above 1080p on my 5 year old computer as I played the other games in this list.
Silent Hill 2-4 - no probs, brilliant games!
Resident Evil 3+4 - maybe others in the series, but 3&4 were dodgey ports to say the least, filled with control issues that may be sorted by now. RE1 wasn't scalable and v diff to run.
Metal Gear Solid 2:Subsistence - Scales perfectly, but wouldn't go widescreen for me. MGS1 was PC too, but not scalable to HD afaik

I've played through most of them on PC in my pre-playstation days with a pad and highly recommend it! As far as remasters go, I'd love the Shadow&Ico pack. Shadow is a brilliant game but has a pretty bad framerate at times as it's clear they were pushing the hardware. Ico is too hard to find, and too dear when it can be found! :D GOW double pack I'll be getting once I finish Bayonetta. I'm surprised ppl are raving about the rerelease, thought games would have moved on but I guess they must be classics!

talk of an ico and shadow bundle in time for the release of trico

better than 3 imo in terms of value

Is it possible that they could remaster Ico&Shaddow in time for the release of The Last Guardian?

Oh that game was class! "Dat's McClaine!" :D Cool how you could shoot construction stuff down on top of them on every level. Has that even been done in a game since???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭Butch Cassidy

Oh yeah the Hitman trilogy would be a great one!

Die Hard Trilogy was released on the PC. A re-release would be great but it'd probably only be a download.

Was that the one where you could run people over in the car and the windscreen wipers would come on to wipe off the blood?

Well if it is then yes.:D

It was. I suspect Die Hard Trilogy will have aged badly at this stage though! It wasn't the prettiest game and the controls were a bit off. And Die Hard isn't a trilogy any more!

You aren't missing anything. It looks way better but adding the first person aiming to the game ruins a lot of the boss fights and over the top cutscenes are beyond retarded, even worse than the tripe in MGS4. Some of the voice actor changes are jarring particularly Mei Ling with an american accent. The original remaind the best game.

I think it's best to say it's an acquired taste. I thought the new cutscenes were fabulously entertaining, filled with OTT choreography (the missile jump! the karate-kicked masonry!) and much better graphics. They brought in Ryuhei Kitamura (Director of Versus, Azumi, Midnight Meat Train) to redo the scenes and imo they add in extra layer of professionalism in the editing suite Kojima could do with for the rest of the series, esp. MGS4. Plus the new additions to the gameplay brought it in line with the rest of the series.

Still if you think the original was perfect, any change at all will be bad news so it depends what you want really, nostalgia and all that. :D

I was playing the game as my friend watched and came to the missile jump cutscene. After he saw that he said out loud 'that's the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life'. I had to agree with it. If you saw that in a film you'd walk out of the theatre.

Just saw it on youtube, ridiculous its like some crap you'd see in Escape from L.A or Batman & Roblin. It makes me glad I never played that one

How does MGS 2 and 3 look on people HDTVs these days?

I think only MGS1 would need the major overhaul.

yeah t'was. and in the options you could change the amount of blood that exploded out of people when you shot them.
Always had it on full :D

MGS 2 and 3 are actually really blocky due to no anti aliasing at all and don't look great. However add anti aliasing and up the res and I'd say they would look fine.

Just thought of another one, Medal of Honour: Frontline. The best gameplay of any WW2 games ive played. Boost the graphics to HD, man id be in heaven!

Go back and play it now, it's awful. Also it wasn't particularly good when it was released. MoH: AA was released on the PC a few weeks beforehand by the same guys that went on to make Call of Duty and it was infinitely better.

Oh sure if you take it seriously, but it looks epic with the explosion behind him as he fires a rocket in mid-air! Both those films are piss-takes though at least you have to imagine that was their aim with Batman and Robin (even if it didn't work). Kinda like how some films are so bad-it's-good only this is so ridiculous-it's-hilarious. The action scenes in MGS4 were just as ridiculous if not more so, especially when Raiden takes on the Gekko.

It's actually really hard to find many others worthy of remastering, most of the successful games have sequels that surpass the originals in every way making them almost redundant - Burnout 3, Fahrenheit, Timesplitters, Midnight Club 2, etc. Other originals were multi-format so the PC trick can be used on them too, like Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts.

The action cut scenes didn't make it ****, the dull boring ones, Drebin and his belching monkey and a load of nonsense they put in to make the ridiculous cut scenes "make sense" did. They should have just left them as it was, unexplained. The series already has someone's grafted arm taking over their personality and a load of other OTT action in the rest of the series so reality was never a factor.

1 of the best looking games on PS2 I think.
