( where they got hammered until the Soviets and Americans joined in :) ). Let me see......... the Falklands  Where they fought over two bits of rock against part time conscripts.

The British Army are the most experienced army in the world! I think this makes them the best army in the world. I think that this is reinforced by the Afghani and Iraq wars where British troops were the first to set foot on the ground while the Americans were still in their planes!

I think Slab is confusing best with big. Far from being hammered they held own against Germany until December 1941. In comparision to both the US and the USSR they were small so the comparision isn't particularly valid. Of course anti British prejudice has nothing to with your opinion is it?

Any unbiased historian will tell you that again and again the British army is and was if not the best then very close to it. An unpalatable fact to some but there you are.

It also helped that certain of our countrymen ensured the British maintained their experience levels to a high order by constantly shooting at them. You don't get to be good without good training and experience. They got plenty of that. I think in the 20th century a British serviceman was killed in action in every year except for 1968 and 1998 to 2000. That is probably unparalled in any army.
