US Attorney General Eric Holder has said that the Pakistani Taliban was behind the attempted Times Square car bombing in New York.

'We've now developed evidence that show the Pakistani Taliban was behind the attack,' Holder said in an interview on ABC television's 'This Week.'

Holder said there was nothing to suggest that the government of Pakistan was aware that Faisal Shahzad, 30, a naturalized American citizen born in Pakistan, intended to make the attempt.

Shahzad was arrested last Monday, two days after authorities say he parked a crude car bomb in New York's busy Times Square.

Would the IRA have built such an idiotic car bomb? No, because they were professionals. I fail to see how the Taliban, with all their resources and knowledge would send in this dude as their jackal.

At a guess because investigation <> conviction.

They investigated. They found nothing out of the ordinary. They said "nothing to see here, move along, move along" and that was that.

Of course, if we subscribe to a world view where investigation == permanent guilt of some sort, and to a perfectly integrated system whereby every department knows everything the others did....then sure....it becomes suspicious.
