Jeepers, must be 25 years since I've eaten in Captain america's!
Never tried wagamamas, but I've heard people raving about it.

Sa-weet! Where did you learn this? :)

Pigsback.com vouchers will be greatly appreciated moreso now :D
Especially if Captain Americas keeps the student nights.
Wagamama is some of the nicest food I've ever eaten, yum yum!

Yeah there have been signs up since last week at least on the windows of the buildings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,653 ✭✭✭✭amdublin

That is cool. I'd heard about CA's but not wagamamma. Excellent.

    Where is JD Browne's located?

Is it just me or do Captain Americas burgers taste suspiciously like BIG AL burgers?

What I dislike about CA burgers is they arrive at your table within about 3 mins of ordering them.... obviously they have pre-prepared them and they just assemble them as the orders come in..... (this happens in the Grafton Street one - don't know about Tallaght)

Considering CA's have a lot of burgers on their menu I find them pretty poor.

But overall I like the CA experience.

And I like their cocktails! Particularly their pitcher of cocktails!

It’s pretty poor when you can only complement a restaurant on their drinks!

Dandelion is way nicer for cocktails though!

    :)

No I like the overall "experience" as well ie. the atmosphere. I like to pretend I'm in a bar in America when I'm drinking in CA's.

I don't order burgers there any more. I like their lasagne mmmm

Dandelion is not to my liking tbh.

I was in the Thirsty Bull in Tyrrelstown last night for dinner, just went up with my Sister to see what it was like.. Nay impressed tbh..

I ordered the soup for starter and I'm nearly sure it came from a packet :( watery, salty, horrible p1ss water *vom*

I got the half roast chicken which came with chips and I ordered a side portion of 'seasonal veg'

The chicken breast was tiny and dry as hell, and I got a grand total of 11 chips on my plate, yes I counted them.

The plate was huge so the food looked even more dwarfed, I think it was supposed to make the food look fancy but I was just left scratching my head.

Oh yeah and the 'seaonal veg' was frozen carrots and stringbeans which were freezing cold and not even a bit of melted butter and garnish that you would normally get to 'jazz' up the veg..

The only saving grace was that it was very reasonably priced, but tbh I'd rather pay the extra few quid and get nice food.. :o

The place itself was quite busy so I'd probably go back for a night of drinking if I'm out that direction but I won't be going back for the food..

    eeugh!

Anyone ever eaten in the plaza(?) hotel in Tyrellstown? I see they've a big sign saying some mains for €5.

I've only ever gone in there for coffee.......seems v nice decor and the staff are excellent.

Wonder what the food/dinner is like?

Where at the centre is CA plan for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

    Over by Mamas and Papas.

That's over by Maplin, Harvey Norman, DID etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Yup, that's right. It's by the Starbucks that's in that part of the centre.

Yes. I'd guess it will be in the empty property to the right of Mamas and Papas, beside the pedestrian crossing lights.

They had an excellent deal on Wed nights, €15 for any 8oz steak (I think), as well as specials on other weekdays. This may have been for April only, though. Place was really busy when I was there.

Had the steak on a lava rock, sounded a bit gimicky but was delicious. The only issue is that the ventilation in the restaurant isn't great, so if lots of people have sizzling steak at their table it gets a bit smokey. Very good overall, would definitely go back.

A bit surprising that CA's is opening at the centre, given that TGI Fridays serves almost identical food in a better location (closer to the Leisureplex, cinema etc.). I'll admit to never being in TGI, but always thought it and CA were basically the same thing. Had my feed of CA cocktails as a student, more interested in food at this stage!

Wagamama is excellent though, might finally make the area worth going out in. A feed in Wagamama and drinks in the Crown Plaza sounds good...

Wagamama, excellent. Does anyone know where it's going to be?

    Captain Americas meh.
    Wagamamas, yum yum yum.

Jaipur in Ongar is also yummy by the way.

By Mamas and Papas, Maplin, Starbucks, Homestore and More, etc. On the corner by Starbucks. At least that's where the signs are.

+0.5 for Wagamamas. Like having a nice Japanese place just a hop of the 270 down the road, although I'd prefer a Yamamoris tbh...
Location is a little odd though being in the retail park. I mean every other restaurant is either in the centre or in a dedicated building around the outside of it (like TGI's, KFC and the McDs drive-through)

I think I noticed some of their weekday deals, but we were there on a Sunday night so full price.

Steak on a stone is a little expensive for what you get, I'm sure they tack a few quid on for the gimmick of it all. And yes, it does get very smokey with even just the one that we had at our table, so they might want to get a fan or two up to deal with them, especially if many people order them around the same time.

Captain America's and Wagamama are a welcome addition to Blanch.:)

IMO the food on offer at CA's is far superior to TGI Fridays. I eat in CAs in Grafton St quite often and have never been disappointed with their fare. TGI Fridays, on the other hand, is hit and miss with me.

    I find TGI's consistently average....

    +1

TGI has gone rapidly downhill in the last few years, deep fried, over cooked grizzle IMHO.. reminds me of Uncie Moes Feedbag where they just dip the whole tray into the vat of greese..

Went there last night on the strength of peoples posts here and found it to be very good in food quality and taste, but a bit expensive. They have a 50% off wine monday and tuesday, and the 15 euro steak is wednesday and thursday. In which you can get the 8oz fillet or the 10oz(I think) sirlion. But you have to pay for any extras, chips, veg etc. And some of the starters, sides and deserts are a bit steap as you don't get big portions in some. For three of us, with 2 starters, 2 15 euro steaks and a chicken thingy(with 5 sides), 2 deserts, 3 coffees, a glass of red wine and a coke came to 92 euro. Which is pretty good. (All the drinks were 2 euro, tea coffee etc)
The staff are really nice also, put a candle in my ice cream and sang happy birthday to me :D Felt like a kid again!
Didn't see any one with the stone steak cooking it on their table, but my top had a stink of grease off it the next day.
Will go back for the 15 euro steaks though.

Poped in to Captain Americas for a look. It's quite large and was very busy - filled with families! The bar and music venue are opening today at 5.30pm.

Captain America's is basically McDonalds with cutlery. So basically you're paying the extra few quid to get a knife and fork and on a plate instead of in a plastic carton and on a tray.

Have you considered the 12th lock? They do have burgers but they also have a lot more. Everything I tried there is great but maybe a little pricey. I'd advise against the hot wings unless you're in the mood for lots of beer as they are super hot.

I think the reason it wasn't full was the tickets were done by lottery and they only gave one ticket per person.

So I won a ticket, but nobody I know did so I didn't bother.

It used to be a great place but I haven't been impressed any time I've been in there over the past few months. Takes forever to be even acknowledged by the staff when you go in there as well.

Yeah 'fraid that the Twelfth Lock has gone off the boil.

Food use to be very consistant and nice, now its the luck of the draw. Personally I have been dissapointed on my last three visits there since the start of the year. Only saving grace that the do a nice range of continental beers.

I only went there once but my husband was there a few times before that and he never had any problems. Maybe it's just recently that it went downhill?
