My car was stolen yesterday at around 4pm it has been stolen by someone who has a problem with me and i have information that the car is in tallaght if anyone spots it, i would be so thankful, don't want to report to the guards as this will only bring more trouble at the moment, the car is a dark blue seat ibiza, it has 3 matching hudcaps and one that is off a different model of ibiza, it is also a 03 D
if anyone spots it you would be so helpful because im stuck at the moment without my car :(

How do you expect to get it back without reporting it to the gardai?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭Vertakill

Erm... I know this is the last place to look for legal advice... but tell the Gardai ffs.

What if someone here were to spot this car... are they supposed to fly home and pm you about it or something?

If you report the car to the Gardai, people can ring up the Gardai if they spot it out on the road and then they can proceed from there.

Or maybe you should look for a vigilante section on here?

    a little harsh no?

@OP you'll have to report it to the gardai to claim off your insurance anyway so thats a bit of a moot point

Your only option is to report it stolen to the Garda, and report anything else that they need to know along with it.

If someone steals your car and your too afraid to call the Garda on them what will they try next?

Why aren't you reporting it? Has one of your mates taken it for a laugh? Or has the Ex turned nasty or something?

    You really should report it.

Ex's brother turned nasty, but yea im going to report it soon, just i got a phone call saying if it is reported stolen it will only make things worse, i would rather resolve it without violence so if anyone spots it, it would be nice to know ive seen threads like this before and people got alot of help, to the rest go troll another thread im looking for help not for abuse.

Jez man start remembering where you were every minute of the day, cause if that car is involved in an accident , you may have a lot of explaining to do....

Gone since yesterday at 4? Ex's brother has a grudge? Haven't reported it? For all you know he's out running rampant over the toll bridge numerous times, getting caught by speed cameras etc etc etc.

Or burned the car out by now. Report it. If you're correct in the person having it they will check up on it.

    That's an excellent point.

For all you know, he could've run into someone already or anything.

Report it now and explain why it took you so long to do so.

If you drive away, you can be charged with hit and run even if the accident was not your fault. Whereabouts in Tallaght? I assume you say Tallaght because that's where they live?

On a serious note, you may find a clause in your insurance that requires the car to be reported stolen within a set time frame from dicovering it has gone.

I reckon a day is more than that set time OP

For some reason, and I may be jumping to conclusions here, but I suspect Killenarden (sp?).

I'll keep an eye out for it, but I'm out of here shortly.

Basically Op. Your insurance company may tell you to get the boat if you try to claim for theft if it has been damaged/burned out.

You've been told to ring the Gardai and your insurance company though - that's as helpful advice as you can get.

SV - tone it down a bit please.

Don't play the boohoo poor me card. What do you want us to do? We've suggested you go to AGS and report it. What else did you expect? A user to tell you they found it and will get it back for you?

You are getting it, you just dont seem to be listening to it.

    Call the Gardai.

If you dont they'll try something else next time and it could be worse, if you ring the gardai it shows your not afraid of them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭Nemanja91

You'd be stupid not to report it to the Guards unless you got involved in something more stupid and you can't report it, you must have done something fir him to rob your car in the first place

Leave it with the Gardai - don't go trying to reclaim the car yourself at this stage.

Now did ya make sure to record the calls for the guards to listen to for proof he has the car, cos you'd have the feckin car back by now if you did that & gave the guards his name!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,399 ✭✭✭Bonito

AFAIK that wouldn't stand legally unless he informed him before hand he was recording the call. Basically, you can't trick someone in to admitting they've stolen your car.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 810 ✭✭✭ha-ya-said-what

Ha I've used calls & texts & phone records to give a guard before to sort out an issue, he accepted it all cos it was between us as proof & it wasn't going to be used in court or anything.

    So it wasn't used then.

So... your car was taken, and probably used in criminal activity. When you get the car back, you become an accomplice to the crime, as you never reported to the Gardai that your car had been stolen...

I'd be getting the locks changed and the car thoroughally looked at too.
You'd never know what surprises you'd get in the first few days of getting it back.

I sympathise with the OP as it is very easy to tell him to "cop on, grow a pair and report it to the Guards". If he cant or wont report it, there has to be a good reason, one of which may be the fact that the Guards aren't going to mount a 24 hour surveilance on his home, being noted by their absence at 4.am when his windows are being put in! Maybe there are other pertinent reasons why reporting the matter is a non runner, but it's very easy to dish out the hard man advice from a safe distance, in the relative comfort and safety of your own home. The Op was just looking for some extra eyes, in an effort to find his car. He obviously has enough on his plate, without having to listen to waffle and poor attempts at humour. just my two pence worth.

While all that is true, sogood, he HAD to report it and I'm glad he did.

It's a horrible situation to be in and I don't think any of us envy him, but avoiding the phone call to the Gardai just opens up more windows of opportunity for the thief to do something illegal while in the car.

Then the OP will be having an entirely different conversation with the Gardai.
The car has been reported stolen...

Yeah, it's reported stolen now, but the point is he could've done something illegal yesterday and you've only reported it today.
So you could be getting a call from the police asking you to explain your actions in your car in... say... a hit and run last night?

I'm sure it's fairly common for someone to do something illegal in their own car and then report it stolen afterwards to try divert the blame from themselves.
So just be careful! Hope it works out.

+1. Some of the posters' moral high ground on this forum is pathetic. Hope things work out for you irishpimpdue.

People were recommending that he inform the Gardai and insurance company to protect himself in case the car has been involved in something untoward after being stolen. How's that the "moral high ground"? That doesn't really make sense.

Yes, recommending but in many cases with a smart ass tone as if they 'know' everything. You're a mod Eoin, take a look back over the thread! Comments such as 'retard', 'grow a pair' and 'cop the f*ck on'. What sense are those comments i ask you?
