Nearest authorised Rifle / Pistol range?

As per title what would be the nearest range to someone living in Co. Clare? Thinking about taking the easy road to getting my licenses renewed; parochial paranoid gun clubs not working out. I've been told by a few about the MNSCI in Offally, but that's quite a distance, and I'm not sure of the costs. Any ideas?

Are you looking to shoot smallbore or fullbore rifle, and rimfire or centrefire pistol?

Your answers will determine where you can shoot as certain ranges may not facilitate your needs. The MNSCI caters for all calbers in all disciplines.

Well, rimfire rifle and shotgun at first, and moving up to rimfire pistol afterwards. Fullbore may be an option as well... I'm guessing the best is Midlands then?

When looking to take part in rifle or pistol sports it is always a good idea to contact the NASRPC (http://www.nasrpc.ie)
(National Association of Sporting Rifle and Pistol Clubs)
who can hook you up with clubs in your area and also provide competitions in clubs all over the country in a range of rifle and pistol disciplines.

Someone has already suggested Ballyhoura who I believe are the closest club to you and are also an NASRPC affiliated club..

    Hope it helps.

Ah, cool.... anyone a member / former member or have any experience of BRPC? Would it come recommended, re. membership costs, facilities etc.?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭murph226

I was a member until recently, I had to get rid of pistol:mad:

50 meter rifle and pistol range, facilities are good and getting better all the time!

Good bunch of lads down there, never overly busy either so you're never waiting to shoot!

I cant remember how much I paid for membership, think it was €350, but you can pay from when you join which is nice, some clubs make you pay from July to July:rolleyes:

I cant afford to join again this year after paying for new rifle, there is plans for a 300 meter range afaik, so I'll be back there at some stage!

Give Dave or Elaine a ring, they will look after you!

Midlands is a National shooting centre, Clays, Rimfire Centrefire and Pistol. All catered for and welcomed.

The only 1000yard range in the Country too;)

Although when I was there first it was a 400 yard, How times have changed :D

I know lads that wont go to the Midlands anymore due to some of the RO's up there, anyone else have any problems like this?

Be tryin the .22 out on that anyway...

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 28,746 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cass

    The midlands have:

    A) 10, 15, 20, 25 mtr pistol range.

    B) 50mtr .22/rimfire range.

    C) 100, 200, 300yd covered/sheltered centrefire rifle range.

    D) 100, 300, 400, 500, 600, 800, 900, 1,000 yds windmill/outdoor range. (Planned/under construction 1200yd range)

    E) Clay pigeon range with 7 traps. (Also due for upgrading shortly).

Pretty much the most comprehensive range in the country. Here is their website with all contact and other information. If it suits great if it doesn't, no harm looking.

No. I have had issues in other ranges/clubs i don't come on here bad mouthing it. I speak to the relevant person in that club and resolve it there and then. I know all the RO's up there and if they have cause to speak to anyone (other than social chat) then that person(s) is obviously doing something they shouldn't be and its an RO's responsibility to correct/inform/help, etc that person.

If these people have probelms or feel "hard done by" they should contact those in charge and discuss it.

That aside this is not relevant to this thread and can only lead to no good or cross words.

I apologise if I came across as "badmouthing" the place, I'm just curious as to whether or not anyone else had a similar experience!

Its a public forum Ez, plenty of thing get said about other services, dealers etc.

It is of course relevant to this thread, the OP is looking for advice and info on ranges!

The lads I mentioned are not cowboys, they've been shooting all their lives and have shot competitively in other countries.

Some people just don't like Midlands because it is in the Midlands ;)
Very few do not like the place unless they are in competition with it.

midlands is not in competition with anywhere as it is in a league of its own.
I rarely go there these days but any time I get to go i am always welcomed.

A few guys may not like but the fact it has hundreds of members speaks for itself ;)

Yes, facilities, equipment, disciplines. Not 3rd hand information about some lads that had a disagreement with an RO. Thats a personal thing.
The lads I mentioned are not cowboys, they've been shooting all their lives and have shot competitively in other countries.

I never mentioned anything about "cowboys", insulted them or anything to the sort. And the fact that they shot all over the world ............. again how is that relevant to a thread on IRISH ranges and their locations and facilities. Also how does it relate to a personality clash with an RO?
