Westmalle , Rochefort and Maredous was todays treats. Enjoyed all. Great getting this all on tap also makes it all taste better I think. Oh and the great glasses. Must pick up a few of these chalice like glasses.

Outside A La Bécasse in Brussels itself, I've never seen the Bécasse beers in Belgium, only in France.

    Quite fond of this myself.

And presumably there's no shortage of Desperados and Adelscott <shudder>

Yep there is heaps of both adelscott and Desperados, and variations on both that I will avoid, especially when 4 packs of Chimay blue are about a fiver,
And yes I think the 6 packs of pelforth brune will be a reasonably regular if short lived visitor to my fridge, right now drinking a 750ml bottle of "La Goudale" 7.2% Blonde right now I'm thinking it's not a million miles away from Duvel, quite hoppy and at €2.40 a bottle it's hard to argue with.

Having a bottle of Spitfire Kentish Ale at the moment.

Choice of either Bishops finger or Old speckled hen next.

I ended up having all 3 and have to say the spitfire was the nicest.

Currently enjoying a bottle of Timothy Taylor Landlord, quite lovely. Fast becoming one of my stalwart English pale ales.

Have you tried Old Crafty Hen yet? I think it's a blend of Old Speckled and Old 5x. It's pricey (about £2.70 here), but very decent with a lovely oakey taste to it. The higher alcohol content provides a nice warming heat sensation too.

Really excellent ale, but is too pricy at 3.49 in my local Spar, seen it cheaper elsewhere?

3.10 at the drinkstore or 2.75 each if you but 12.

Dunno how it is bottled, but on draught, IMO, this is one of the world's great beers: how pale lager is supposed to taste.

Yes it was good stuff kinda reminded me of that Timothy Taylor Landlord.

By the way I also have the receipt to how much the bottle of beer cost !

    0.69c ! :(

Might be worth it's own thread but will ask here first.

I'm off to Bratislava next week and wondering if anyone has any recommendations for local beers to try?

I get the impression that all the good beer's in Vienna. There's an article on beer in both cities here.

The dark Šariš beer is quite nice, though Zlatý Bažant is rubbish.

Thanks, I've had Zlatý Bažant before and remember thinking it was ok but nothing special.

Zlatý Bažant isn't a bad beer. Make sure you go to the Slovak pub Click. Big pub with a lot of different rooms

They had Zlatý Bažant at varying degrees there, aswell as Kelt, and probably one or two others when I was there a few years ago. They do food too.

€1.30 a pint? Nice. Kelt was discontinued last year, unfortunately.

    Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel
    Schöfferhofer Dunkles Hefeweizen

I did a side-by-side comparison of the two, and taste-wise I found them to be fairly close. The Paulaner probably a little sweeter, and in fact tasted almost the same as the regular weissbier.

Schöfferhofer a little darker in colour.

    Both same price, 80c each.

The Franciscan Well's raspberry Weissbier is really very drinkable. Very drinkable indeed.

Just after moving to Cork so it's been all about the Friar Weiss and Rebel Red for me recently. Not too keen on the Blarney Blonde though, light and not much flavour. I think I'll be drinking a lot more Friar Weiss though :p

Is that new? Is that the new seasonal that replaced Purgatory?

They were both on side-by-side when I was last in, in July.

Mendocino's Eye of the Hawk & Cooper's Best Extra Stout (last night, mind; it's a little early for strong beer, on a Monday at any rate ;)).

    Both fantastic!
