    Hi there.

I am looking around for a scope for my new t3 223. I saw this one in my local gun shop but do any of you think hawke scopes are any good. I know any of you can give me a list of good scopes but i am on a tight budget.
I am not just sure how to get the info over so i will just paste it

I personally wouldn't have one on a centrefire rifle, JMO.

    What's your scope budget?

Ive never used that scope myself. Ive looked through a few hawke scopes and I wouldnt rate them very highly. That been said they were only cheaper models, and I wouldnt put them on anything bigger than a .22lr. They get mixed reviews. Some good like this one.

The hawke frontier SF seems to be the best of them, there are a few good reviews on it. Like this one. It looks tempting.

But if you have invested in a new t3 .223 which is a great gun it would be a shame to put a scope on it that wont do it justice. I would spend a bit more and get somthing you are sure is good like a bushnell or a nikon or any other good brands. Or buy one second hand. It will be worth it even if you have to save for it.

The odds are if you buy a cheap scope for that gun you wont be happy with it a you will end up buying twice.

I agree with Ghost, buying cheap could see you disappointed and the second hand route may be the best option. I don't know your situation but I'd try to save up a few more Euros and get something half decent.

Have you included decent mounts in your budget?

Personally i wouldn't put a Hawke near a CF rifle. Having used 2 of them i still don't like them. I had one on a .22lr and it was fine, in that it held a zero, but the glass was poor. I recently tried the new Hawke Frontier (designed for CF rifles) on my .223 and really was not at ease with it. Then glass is still poor especially at the high mag.

I would look at a more tried and tested hunting style scope such as the Bushnell range, like the Banner/Legend/Trophy line in 3-9 or 6-24 mag range. At most you will be looking at €250.

For a few more quid you could go the extra bit and go for the Bushnell Elite range or Burris range.

Have a look here and here for some samples and prices.

You should be able to pick up a fairly decent scope for €250. There are loads of scopes all way ahead of the hawke scope you are looking a.

johngalway made a good point, remember your mounts. Try get decent ones or they could end up breaking your heart.

If you go looking for second hand, and don't find anything on here or in dealers, the airgunbbs has a pretty decent for sale section - just be sure to read all the rules first, as they stick by them pretty rigidly.
