I am getting more and more obsessed with Sumer by the day! Can we all agree or disagree that at the very least something very unexplainable (and probably incorrectly explained) occured, in the Middle east and other places such as South America, that absolutely changed the world until christians ruined the buzz!
In a word Agriculture(large scale). Huge change. Meant a few things. Consistent food supply, which leads to a population spurt. The need to measure seasons, irrigation menthods, local terraforming, cross breeding of stock and crops, etc leads to the beginnings of science. The heirarchy of the tribe gets bigger. Much bigger and this leads to organised politics and indeed religion. Need to grab land. Even the notion of ownership starts. Which then kicks off the technology of warfare. The need to record then kicks off writing and maths. More free time for some, leads to specialisation. Basically the building blocks of civilisation.

Were we visited by aliens in the past?
Possibly, but whether they influenced us or would even be bothered or if they showed up when we were around. They could have shown up 400 millions years ago when there was feck all life on land.
Did genetic engineering take place between Alien DNA and our ancestors to create homosapiens?
If I was looking for a message from aliens I would be looking in our dna. Best place to hide it. Put it somewhere stable and you have a message that replicates for millions of years.
Do you think the levels of understanding, development and evolution that took place in ancient Sumer is normal, or was there a sudden exponential growth, in humankinds development?
Well it happened everywhere organised agriculture kicked off. As an advantageous meme it spread like wildfire. Art was another one. It suddenly sprang up in a big way 60,000 yrs back(though previous humans had some art just like us). That IMHO was down to a virus that affected us but not previous hominids and is one reason schizophrenia is endemic in modern humans worldwide. A mad theory that can wait for another thread! :D
Do you think we homosapiens are the product of years of evolution or could something have happened along the way to accellerate our development?
Well the strange thing is we're the weirdos in the Hominid group. We look so different to all the others. We're much less robust, have chins, smaller noses, smaller teeth, smaller skulls overall, no browridges, much flatter faces. Which is unusual. Though again my theory is that we're actually "domesticated" humans. Watched a very good programme on domestication of arctic foxes. When animals are domesticated they become more juvenile(neotenous) in both attitudes and features. Wolves and dogs are the same species. Very different in reality though. dogs are less robust, have shorter noses, smaller teeth and jaws(a wolf has twice the bite strength of a pitbull), flatter faces smaller skulls, more varied colouring and retain juvenile features throughout their lives. They play more, they accept new members into the pack, they become more vocal. Even early versions of "us" are more robust. go back 50,000 years in europe and the average man then has the bone density of an olympic athlete. Bigger teeth than now, bigger everything. IMHO we look the way we do because when we started to live in bigger and bigger groups we needed to domesticate ourselves to make it work. In the way we domesticated the wolf for our needs(and them us too), thus the pressures of civilisation domesticated us in turn.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Strangely enough was reading about the american scientists that made artifical life the other day and thet had put in a signature into the dna.Think the thread was in Atheists and agnostics....

Been watching Ancient Aliens on the History Channel lately its a good series. On one of the episodes it showed what seems to be remains of an island with remains of buildings on it under the water in the Bermuda Triangle and the level at which the Island is at would date back to 15,000 - 20,000 Years ago when we were merely cavemen living in caves. Why would we be living in caves if we there is evidence of buildings from the same period. Also there is a place in turkey where inside a mountain there is a 14 story cave(for want of a better word) with passage ways( looks like a human version of an ant farm). In ehre they found rooms that would of been used for live stock, Wine cellars, bedrooms etc. and has vents leading to the outside. Bones found here date back to 10,000 years ago. Experts said it would be difficult and implausible to build something like this nowadays so how would they have created it back then. It was very interesting. If your interested in this the series is worth a watch.
