Good god someone stop Irish stations ripping off tv shows!! Anyone seen this? It was on TV3 just there so I said I'd give it a go, I feel like my day is now ruined!! Yer man is ripping off May & Clarkson no end! The obv. they've not got the budget for TopGear stye tests so they shoud stop trying to replicate!

(I know should be in TV, but I figured more Petrol Heads would see it here)

    It's embarrassingly bad.

They obviously haven't realised that there is a gap in the market for a "normal" car show that simply does reviews of new models. Leave Top Gear do the more entertainment based stuff that it does so well.

Do you remember 'Drive' that was on RTÉ years back? That was equally shíte.

Not at all, Drive was nowhere near as bad as I recall. This thing is in a league of it's own due to it's blatant aping of TG.

Fifth gear is better than Top Gear in the way it actually focuses on real car stuff as opposed to the entertainment factor of TG

Apart from this, although they did apply the science too it (bloody awesome)

That was absolutely painful to watch.

Why is it that whenever the Irish try to do a car programme or anything automotive related, they get it so blatantly wrong? I mean, I can't put into words how bad that was.

    What. the. fúck.

I just caught a few minutes on this on City Channel. 3 of them were test driving 3 different cars around Mondello, the woman had the fastest time and the guy was up last, when he crossed the line the woman didn't actually say what time he got, she only held up the stopwatch to the camera, but you can't actually make out what it says!! ffs, do they watch this footage when they edit it together?

I find Clarkson so monotonous at this stage. He follows the same style for each review that I've gotten jaded with TG. It's refreshing to have a different approach on another show instead.

I know what you need, you need Vikki Butler Henderson presenting the Irish Automotive programme, I would watch her all day long. OOPS SAID TOO MUCH,GOTTA GO.:P

I couldn't hack more than two minutes of that chickenshyte. The problem with yerman is he sounds like someone has kidnapped his family and won't release them unless he says all these puns in the shortest possible time. Either that or he's constipated.

With Clarkson the humour is incidental and it fits his character. I'm sure Top Gear is scripted to the nines, but it doesn't come across that way because there is some of the character in the character. This TV3 thing is absolutely cringeworthy.

I remember back in the 90's when I knew most of the motoring journos in Ireland: many bemoaned nepotism and people debasing the market just to get to drive swanky cars on a regular basis. Clearly nothing much has changed.

Re: Drive, it was over - styled but not a bad programme at all. The host, Karl Tsigdinos, is a true petrol head ( he also presented 'River of soul' on Today FM, think he's moved to 4FM ). The Director - Paddy McClintock - competed in the 1968 London - Sydney Marathon in a Pug. 404, and did again in 1993. FFS at least they were car guys.

    My tuppence worth anyways.

    Regards,

    Tony.

Sick of clarksons reviews too where he starts off saying its possibly the worst car ever but then it turns out to be the best car IN THE WORLD

The worst was when paintballed a car in another episode. Cringeworthy. It's was an econobox they were trying to hype up to be a another WRC competitor. Pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,862 ✭✭✭Beta Ray Bill

It is a crap show with crap presenters

I have no time for it what so ever, regardless of what car they are testing:

Whats even more stupid is the fact that A lot of the sprt cars that they test are not available for purchase here.

Ireland is not a car friendly country. So this show is a waste of time and money

That's shockingly poor alright, but typically Irish - "ooh this is a 04.. shiney.. nice dashboard!"

Never been to an auction myself, but seemed a bit convenient that they both got their cars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭nogoodnamesleft

Saw this the last day......OMFG. Your man driving the R8 was a complete muppet. He was doing 100kph in a 120zone.......in an R8 that kinda says it all.

The edit cut they aired at the end of the show showed the blonde female presenter stalling the car I think it was a VW Tiguan (2wd). Need I say more! Presenters should be selected because they have an interest and also because they have good perception and understanding of driving dynamics and that they can apply it in practice to form a conscise accurate car review. The two presenting the show quiet simply didnt!

They said very little regards the cars themselves engineering involved (even when reviewing the R8 stinks of sloppy research).Even the tiguan was a 2wd version!

Wont be watching it in future!

Meh! What do you expect? They are prob being paid buttons and the budget for the show is peanuts.

You pay peanuts you get monkeys.

To be honest, I didnt even know this car show existed until now as I've given up watching Irish TV as its useless and the more of it I watched the more I resented being forced to pay a TV license to have it used for that cr*p!!

But watching the few clips posted on here have made me cringe.. absolutely shocking, brutal, total sh*te..

At least get presenter(s) who knows what they are talking about, have an interest in cars and can bloody drive!!!!.

OMFG, an Auris is good now:eek::eek:?

I need to sit down and take a few deep breaths after that statement.

Irish "car journalists" know absolutely nothing about cars, or if they do they never express it. We have Irish Car getting all excited by a Skoda Octavia which is now 5 years old at this stage because they now do a CR diesel with a DSG box and a "massive" 105 PS:eek:, we have Kevin Myres in the Irish Indo saying it's all a conspiracy(about the accelerator pedals etc in Toyotas) and Drive getting all worked up about the Honda Insight because wait for it... it is the cheapest hybrid on sale:eek::rolleyes:!

Only in Ireland would you have a "motors" section of a newspaper give the old model Avensis 5 out of 5 even though the new model was only a few weeks away, and equally Irish is declaring the current Avensis a better car than the Insignia:rolleyes::eek:. Step forward the Irish Times and take a bow:rolleyes:!

It a case that the show is so small, low budget that they are frightened to give an car a bad review for fear the manufacturers wont give them any cars to test. The guy I would say knows his stuff but is not been given the chance because the producers are making him do a Clarkson impersonation....the paintball in a grey quarry was bizarre.
Review car, call a spade a spade and dont tell is a obviously crap car is great cause it gets 100 mpg. Those who care for such things don watch TV cause it wastes electricity.
