Hi guys, was out yessterday with my krico 22 with Nikko sterling 6x40 sights. tried to tune sight for 90 yards. got it shooting a 1 1/2" group at 90 yards. is this good enough? tried closer shots then and was off by 2". Basically i'm asking at what distance should you zero your sights on a 22 and should i use silencer and subs or no silencer and high velocity rounds??

Its a good rifle. Well made and reliable. I cant really fault it for a semi. after buying a sako quad .17hmr and I'm debating on keepin the krico or getting the 22 barrell for the quad>

If 90yds or even 100 is your max distance this would be okay. I wouldn't shoot any further as you cannot guarantee shot placement.

You would be. As the distance you shoot at increases the point of impact of your bullet will drop. I always advise a 50yd zero for a .22lr. Go to a range or somewhere you can safely test the rifle. Never adjust your scope after each shot as you will constantly be chasing the "bull". I always shoot a minimum of 5 shots to test grouping.

Clamp it as best you can to eliminate rifle movement as a cause for poor grouping. Once the rifle is secured fire a test group of 5 rounds at a fixed point of aim (preferably a bullseye or Shoot'N'C target). Do not worry about where the bullets are impacting as long as your point of aim remains constant. Make the rifle safe and go to your target. Draw a circle around the group of bullets using the two furthest apart holes as your outer markings. This is your group. Now aim again at the bullseye and fire another test group of 5 shots. Keep test firing in groups of 5 shots. Try different types of ammo and record the size of the different groups. The smaller the group the better. You will eventually find a bullet that suits the rifle. Stick with this brand and record the settings for your scope for 50yds. This will be your reset value.

While still at 50yds make sure your rifle is hitting bull. If not fire a 5 shot group while aiming at the bull. Go to the target and find the centre of the group. Adjust your scope from the bull to the centre of the group. You now have your "true" zero (or as best you can). Now fire another test group of 5 rounds and all of them should be in or around the bull. Once you have this you can move on out the distances. Don't jump to 100yds. Try 75yds. Use the same process as above. 5 shot group while aiming at the bull. Measure the distance from the bull you were aiming at to the centre of the group you just shot. If necessary do a second group. If, for example, its 1 inch lower then adjust your rifle up the necessary clicks. Again another 5 shot group. Do the same process for 100 yds when you're comfortable with your 75yd grouping/shooting.
..... and should i use silencer and subs or no silencer and high velocity rounds??

I find that you will always get better grouping and performance with subs. High velocity rounds obviously travel faster and sometimes do not stabilise in the barrel fully and so any sort of grouping may go out the window. A good moderator shouldn't put your shot off (when using subs) but you may find a slight difference in point of impact. If you intend to shoot with the mod on all the time use the above process but with the mod on and reocrd your settings. Personally with a bit of time, patience and not too much ammo i would do it with and without the mod for my own peace of mind and to know exactly what my rifle does.
