In light of a thread I was reading here.

I realised I was in the same boat as the op.

Like her I have a severe shortage of female friends... I tend to get on with boys a lot better (dunno why) perhaps girls have the whole bitchy aspect them.. I include myself in that as everyone has their moments.

In secondary school- had lots of mates
College- none of my secondary school mates went to college so we drifted apart as we always had conflicting schedules, they slowly got more mates and I became waaay out there. On the other hand, I had made some mates in college, not many but a few.

Towards the end of college, I was getting back in with all of my old mates then BAM!!!! One stops talking to me, then nearly the whole lot of them do!

So I'm sitting here bored outta my bin, wishing I had more mates in my phone to text and simply say hey! wanna head the pics or go for food!!

But I dont and I hate it.

So this thread is kinda like grab a granny, only without the grannies and grabbing LOL

I wanna make new friends, who I can hang out with and have a laugh and what not!

So here we mingle and what not :D

Hope this helps other people and not just me!

PS I really hope this dosn't make me sound like a sad oul bint haha

Ill start off I suppose :)

    Name: Emma
    Age: 23
Interests: Music, hanging out, pictures, trying new food, holidays, shopping (girly girl really)
    Your story: See above :)

    Haha! Aww me too!

    Name : Niamh
Age : Celebrating the first anniversary of my 25th birthday this year!
Interests: ROCK music (and secretly Glam metal) reading, excercising - I love goign to the gym but I don't expect my grab a grannie friend, to like it! I like shopping, well I do and I don't. I'm a trainee hairdressers and beautician so I love makeup, fashion and practicing on people!! I love football, Celtic FC in particular and I'm from south county Dublin. Going on holidays, talking about holidays and food are more of my interests. :)

    Same boat here really too!

    Name: JoJo
    Age: 25
Interests: Music (particularly rock and metal), running, movies, martial arts, gaming, computers, sport, cooking, shopping...
Story: I just seem to get on way better with guys as friends than I do with girls, always seem to have a lot more in common with them. I'm in a very male-dominated field at college too, so it's difficult to even meet new female friends. *shrug*

Great idea. I'm in the same boat since moving back from Edinburgh - at the exact same time that all my friends here moved away!

    Anyway:

    Name: Vicky
    Age: 23
    Location: Cork
Story: Lived in Edinburgh for 4 years, moved home last summer. All my home friends promptly moved away. Have become acquaintances with girls from college and work, but don't know them well enough to call them up or anything.
Interests: Cooking, baking, reading, music, boards... I find it really hard to list hobbies! I walk my dog every day, so if anyone's looking for a walking partner...?

This thread is just going to turn into a new ladies lounge beers thread. :)

I'd be up for drinks and cinema or something sometime. A lot of people in their early/mid 20's(myself included) are in the same situation and just drift apart from old friends and then you enter the world of work and there's a much bigger variety of ages than what you're used to so you find it harder to make friends and settle in.

I realise that  Trust me, no one on this lives near me, the nearest big place to me is Galway City and I'm still not anywhere close to that so there's no point.

Interests: Beer! Surfing, skating, gardening, yoga, climbing, knitting! cycling, anything outdoors-ish love being outdoors.

Yeah never have had a whole heap of female friends not for want of trying - I am a big tomboy I guess. I would love to know girls that were into the same things as I am, mainly skating and cycling. That said it's hard to find males to do them with me most the time!

This is a great idea. The lack of female friends has been bugging me a lot lately. Even more so last week when my birthday came and went and I didn't even go out for birthday drinks. :(

    Name: Helena
    Age: 26
    Location: Kilcullen, kildare.
Interests: my dog, cooking, reading, red wine, white wine, sparkling wine:P, relaxing outdoors (once the good weather comes in I spend every second weekend camping). I don't love clubbing, and I cannot dance to save my life. I'm ridiculously open about stuff. I tend to put my foot in my mouth often.

About me: When I left school I moved within days, leaving most of my friends behind. We drifted apart as you do and I started hanging out with my OH's friends. Two of their gf's I got close to but they stopped speaking to me when their relationships finished. The other girls are lovely and great drinking buddies, but not the type of relationships where you'd text during the day or even meet up with without the whole gang there.

Interests: A bit of everything, really. I'm not really a girly-girl though. I don't do the whole dress up/go out/go dancing thing. I don't dance.. period. I like all kinds of music, particularly of the live variety (literally listen to anything!), and all kinds of films, 'cept chick flicks, but I give anything a shot. I like animals. A lot. Particularly dogs and horses. And I play videogames a lot, too (and I don't mean Wii). Eh.. I'm adventurous enough, I'm up for most things simply for the experience. So if you wanna do something nuts, I'm your girl. :p

Ok might as well join in even though I am pretty sure everyone'll be miles away from me.

    Age: 25
    Location: East Galway/almost Midlands
Interests: I am an out and out girly girl, I love my clothes (shoes and dresses!), make up. I love going to pubs and clubs, I like a few drinks but hate the "lets get shitfaced" attitude that most people I know have. I love almost all music but in particular live music, Lady Gaga, bit of rock, swing, trad.

I love animals, cats in particular, and dogs. Eating out and trying new foods is one of my favourite things to do. I also love anything creative, photography, cooking, baking & cake decorating, jewellery making. I am very chatty so be warned. I have a car so can go pretty much anywhere from Galway to Athlone to meet people.

My story: I grew up in a town where I never really fit in with all the bitchy girls, so lost contact with most school friends through choice, only in contact with one still but she's travelling. I moved away for college, made two amazing friends there, but one lives in Cork, the other lives close by but I would love more than one friend! Of course I've met loads of people over the years but with moving/travelling/etc I've lost contact with most of them.

I work with bands and am trying to get a job in the music industry but the industry is kinda fooked at the moment!!!!

    Happy now hahaha

I have a few friends but it's hard to meet people here. I've traveled a lot and lived outside of the US, so I also have friends who live abroad.

Hello ladies! This is a fantastic thread. :D

I have a handful of really great friends but am a total girl's girl and figure a girl can never have too many friends!

    Name: Beks
Age: 24…25 next month and not happy about it!!
Location: Dublin / Galway on weekends
Interests: Work (I have a cool job), reading (both books & newspapers); working out in the gym - try to go most days; writing - diaries, articles, letters, on boards, post-its…whatever! Meeting new people, travelling (going to Canada at end of year…) Walking the prom (part of the reason I travel home most weekends!), hanging out with family, nights out, nights in, clothes!

My story: More of a one-on-one person than a group person and I have a tendency to develop good, close friendships rather than hanging out in groups. (HATED secondary school...All Girls, enough said)

I have a handful of best friends from school, college and work. Outside of that I have a group of friends/acquaintances from college and work mates who I go out with regularly…but there's always room for more!
I have a best friend at home in Galway who is more like a sister, would trust her with my life, so it's sort of a 2-for-the-price-of-1 for any new friends that I make!! Also…I always have chocolate ;)

Snap Katie. I'm also of a slightly mature vintage. :D

    Name: Mary

    Location: Laois

    Age: 34

Interests, Cooking, reading (mostly Terry Pratchett novels at the moment), a smidgin of Creative Writing, more cooking, running interference on a wild three year old boy and being social secretary for my 14 year old daughter. I've also been known to attend the odd Nocturnal Forum Beers.

Story: Painfully shy in secondary school so didn't make many friends. Went off the rails a tad in College and didnt make many close mates there. Lived in Dublin for about six years then moved back to Laois with my daughter and met the other half in 2000 on a blind date. The rest is histoire as they say.:) Part of my genetic inheritance is a very black sense of humor which I think is my most endearing trait. :D Not everyone agrees.

Forgot to add my love of the new Dr Who series but that might be straying into Captain Obvious territory...

    What a nice thread!

Ok, I'm Clare and 24 and I live in Dublin. I had a grand circle of friends, and a lot of them are still around Dublin, but it just seems impossible to get most of them together anymore, so the group of friends I see on a regular basis is quite small. :( I am trying to get fit at the moment so thinking of taking up Boot Camp shortly and a Boot Camp buddy would be most excellent!!

Allright., I'll throw myself up here too.

    Name: Linda

    Age: 23

    Location: Galway

Hobbies/interests: Drawing/digital painting; reading; films&tv; playing games (boardgames, sometimes video games. I'd like to do rubber sword larp but no pen&paper RPG's); music (mainly rock/metal, I also like tradition Irish and medieval style music);archery; I'm big into the fantasy genre, with a lot of love for the Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter series and more of that sort. It also returns in my art a lot; I'm interested in the paranormal and spiritual but will not buy into anything.

Story: I came to Galway from the Netherlands to do just a year at NUIG originally. Most of my friends were also international students, who all left whereas I stayed after that year. I then started A) working full time B) living with my boyfriend, neither of which inspire a colourful social life. Both A and B are still the case+ I can by shy at first but I realised I do want to see some more people. So hopefully joining the boards will have been a step forward.

Story: I find it really hard to make friends, as I dont drink. Most Irish people associate socialising with going to the pub. Im not a boring old bat though! I love going to the cinema, shopping, going for a drive, going to the park to walk my poochie, going out to eat, theatre, reading, erm shopping!, the internet (and shopping on it!), gadgets, cooking, travelling, baking cookies/cakes/pies and lots more.

I would love to make some new girly friends to hang out with! I am originally from the states, but have been living here in Dublin for 11 years. If anyone is interested in hanging out sometime or going shopping!, send me a pm :)

This totally feels like a personal ad :(

Coffee tomorrow sounds good! Should I PM somebody?

Denise, 27, my interests include Glee, Harry Potter, books, music, history, handbags, running, yoga, baking and a few other things beside! Text speak is one of my most hated things :D
