New bike built - frame decision

Everyone else seems to be at it so I figure why not. Going to build up a bike myself so looking for advice.I want to build a race bike, I already have a pretty comfortable road bike so I figure something more aggressive and stiff would be in order

Firstly I'm pretty sure I'm going for the SRAM Rival groupset. They seem to be great value for money and I like the idea of trying something different out for a change. Probably a 50/34 + 11-23

Secondly the big frame decision. Here I have no clue. Budget wise I'd say up to €700. I missed out on the s/h Giant TCR frame that was going here a while back so now looking everywhere and anywhere. Planet-X and Ribble both have frames but would like to look further afield also before making a decision. Anyone ever looked a the option of buying direct from Tawain or China?

After that I'm not too concerned at the moment. I have spare wheels and the rest are smaller details for me.

So any input on the frame option?

Might be worth hanging on to see what the new planet x road frame is like. Not sure when it is released, but if anything there might be some discounts on the already well priced SL Pro frame.

i love the look of this, it will definitely be on my short list for my next build, as for performance i have no clue though unfortunately. i just love the split chain stays

    ABPX(anything but planet-x)

There's a new Planet-X frame on the way?

Five out of six. Hmmm. I recommend an R3

    For €700?

    Yeah, go for the R3.

I still recommend an R3. When have we ever cared about blowing people's budget around here?

True. But £1500 is a lot.

    Addict R4 frameset, £800, 1340g.

I think Diarmuid would look great on an R3.

Yeah, but it would be so nice he'd be afraid to race it, taking his crappy bike instead, and have to pull out with mechanical failure.

Did someone have to pull out with a mechanical recently?

You did, I heard. I prefer to crash.

edit: and my Addict crashes very well. Not a scratch, or even a cracked chainstay.

I don't like the Canyons at all. Something about the downtube shape and the front.

    I think that was pulled out....of a ditch....with a mechanical.

EDIT: Actually, best not get involved in this, it could turn nasty on me!

Beefy tube profiles need to be balanced by crazy deep section rims. It's the law.

I spotted that and it does look good however it kinda defeats my self-build goal. But, yeah, it probably makes more sense

Nice frame. Not so nice price

    This looks interesting

I think built up, better than this, it could look quite nice:

I mean come on! A nice white frame with some orange detailing and he just goes for BLACK! I see room to express yourself, bring in some autumnal hues!

I know a chap who had/has one of them. Had to send the first back for some reason. But then again, I had to send my R3 back. I know he liked it while he had it. I think he got a second one.

Yeah, there's also a Fuji version with orange inner chainstay paint. There are some cheaper deals in the clearance section of the Canyon site.

As my first bike i'm horrendously biased, but pedal force are without a doubt the best frame in the world :) seriously though i'm really enjoying mine.

damn you all, googling around and came across this, my build came in much more than this... :(

    Spotted another relevant thread.

My current bike is a 52 but would be considering a 51 on this build.

    Cinelli Dinamo

Cheaper from Slane. Geometry chart is hard to track down. Don't really see the point of a sportive geometry frame for a pure race bike, but it is pretty.

    Cinelli site says:

Weight (frame/fork): 3.15lb/.88lb (1430g/490g) - size medium. Does not compute. .88lb is more like 400g.

    Still, not bad for sub-€600.

edit: this Scott is about 500g lighter, and almost within budget. Light, pretty, cheap: pick two.

There's a group buy on Pedal force for their new frame. Looks tempting $549 + $130 (frame) + $56 (shipping) + customs = €540 + customs. However it's a new frame with no reviews and the bottom bracket is a BB30 which would require SRAM Force. ummm.

There are two other frames on Ebay UK which look interesting. One and two. Another boardsie is building a frame with one, but I'd must mail the seller to get the geometry. The 52 might be too big. I wouldn't want anything bigger than my current bike

I also had a rush of common sense and am also now considering getting the groupset first and putting that on my Trek first and buying the frame a month or two down the line if I still think I deserve a new frame
