    Hi,

Is the windows 7 disc that you are using to install win7 an original disc?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 151 ✭✭The Oggmonster

It is. I bought the full version of the Home Premium from Amazon.

I tried again and now it's asking where I want to install Windows. There are no options to pick anything though.

It's asking for a mass storage driver for installation now.

    Hi The Oggmonster

its sounds like its asking for sata drivers for you hard drive. what motherboard do you have.

Ok, I'm in the bios now. It doesn't seem to have them listed anywhere. But I could be looking in the wrong place?

Yes my bios is like that. I'll have a look if it doesn't install this time.

Ok when it has (press F6 to load drivers) on the screen dont press it.
    win7 should have the drives.

Ok, earlier when I was looking through the bios my drives weren't showing up. But now they are. My hard drive is in IDE Channel 0 Master and my dvd drive is in IDE Channel 1 Master.

I tried installing a SATA driver from the disc I got with the motherboard. I didn't think it had worked. I'm not sure if that has now made them show up.

I will try again now. Hopefully it works now.

Nope that didn't work either :-(

Where should I press F6 for the drivers?

There is an option at startup

Sata is found running at IDE MODE!

In the motherboard manual it says "The message that follows asks if you want to change it to AHCI mode and enable hot plug functionality for the SATA connectors.

    Should I pick AHCI mode?

  • Registered Users Posts: 165 ✭✭dun79

im not sure about ahci mode.
if there listed in the bios you should be able to install

your hdd should be runnign in sata not ide mode. The ide mode is pretty much only used for 2nd gen ssd's.

So I should click Y to change it to AHCI?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host_Controller_Interface

from the looks of it ahci is sata mode.
    yes press Y to change.

I changed it to AHCI mode.

I'm still having the same problem. Windows can't seem to find my hard drive. It wants me to install a mass storage driver.

do you have another copy of windows you can try.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 151 ✭✭The Oggmonster

I have the 32bit disc. I bought the full copy from Amazon so don't have access to any more copies.

I'm going to try and boot from the disc drive in this pc. I'll just connect it up and see will that work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 165 ✭✭dun79

after a bit of googling i think you need to download sata drivers.

SATA RAIDDateDescriptionVersionSize2009/12/03GIGABYTE SATA2 Preinstall driver (For AHCI / RAID Mode)
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy.
    Download from :
    Asia Asia(China) America Europe Europe(Russia) : ftp / http1.17.52.020.19 MB

Using another disc drive didn't work. It's definitely something to do with the hard drive.

Can I run that driver from a USB key? I don't have a floppy drive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 165 ✭✭dun79

    i think you can.

use 7zip and extract to your usb.

let us know if it works.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 151 ✭✭The Oggmonster

    That hasn't worked either :-(

What if I was to connect my new hard drive to this pc and format it? Would Windows 7 recognise it then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 165 ✭✭dun79

Yes try it in another computer. the hard might be broken.
do you have another hard drive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 151 ✭✭The Oggmonster

Just thinking. I have one from my PS3 from when I replaced the hard drive in that.

    It's a 40GB 2.5". Would I be able to connect that?

I connected the 2.5" drive up. It had SATA connection so I'll see if that's any different.

Ok, with my other disc I can pick where to install Windows. This is a step further than I was getting. How do I know get my new hard drive to do this?

I have a 3.5" external enclosure. Could I connect it to this pc and format it? What file system should I use NTFS?
