Thanks to Intershoot! Eley testing!

I was traveling to England for a catch up and shooting day with some friends which by happy coincidence worked out the same few days Sam from Intershoot was traveling to Eley testing a few rifles, so he kindly asked me to tag along on the Monday and have a look at the setup and testing!

At £75 a rifle, it really does work out value for money if you are interested in having your rifle tested! (saves on the hassle, travel, accom etc!!) and Sam is very professional with every rifle, getting the same amount of batches, testing and care!

The day at the factory started at around 8.30 am and Martin at the customer range was more than helpful, setting the barrels up in the test rigs and instructing us on the electronics and software program used for testing.

Sam let me test my own barrel and I managed to find a suitable batch even though I haven’t really put enough ammo down the Bleiker to have it shot in yet!

I used a batch of RWS R50 I had as a control batch ,which I had used at Downshire the Saturday before at an ISSF shoot which I managed a score of 586. This produced four x 10 shot groups with an average of 18.4mm and a forty shot group of 22.8mm so as I had thought not fantastic!

After testing around 20 batches I selected a batch that seemed consistent producing four x 10 shot groups with an average of 15.9mm and a forty shot group of 17.2mm so 5.6mm better than the R50

I expect the test group sizes to improve the next time I test once the barrel has shot in as I still think it needs a few thousand rounds down it.

Once again a big thanks to the guys at Intershoot! and I would have no hesitation in sending the barrel across with Sam for testing!!, actually I am going to contract Intershoot this week and arrange them to test my rifle at Eley in June on their next booked test day.

Good to hear, sounds nice. It's a service I may well avail of myself at some point.

Absolutely. I've always liked the Lapua stuff, so as soon as they start offering to fly to Germany for me, I'll book with them. ;)

Yeah, it's probably jsut a subjective thing, but any time there are slight wind changes, it seems you can just ignore them with the Lapua stuff, while they will matter with EPS stuff.

All the batches that werer available on the testing day were all (in my opinion) quite slow!!
The velocity on them ranged from approx 1048 to 1060 were as before they would have been in the high 1070's, this is said to help in the wind and only time will tell!;)
It seems people have been asking Eley to make slower ammo and so they have put it into practice.
I did have a practice on a range with it that didnt have wind flags up and was a little breezy!, it resulted in a twenty shot score of 198 and although hard to tell really what it was like I was deffo happy with the groups!

The benchrest lads tell me the same thing; they won't use anything more than 1050 and if you produce a box of 1042, they nearly take your hand off to get it. :D

6 behind you. Enjoyed the shoot, even though it was Baltic!

When you shoot your best card in the fog, you're doing something wrong :D

Did someone mention 1042. Where? How much? I don't care i'll take it all.

Seriously though, i cannot get 1042 anywhere and have been using 1064 for the last few weeks. The results can be got but the rifle really loves the Eley at 1042 and makes the shooting much easier.
