    Hi All

Any Unislim members on here? I just joined tonight and their new food maximising plan seems a bit daunting :D Anyone have any recipes?

What way does your class usually go? The talk was quite quick with little or no class participation - is this usual? The leader seemed really good. I did like Weight Watchers classes as their seemed to be a lot of discussion and tips with the members. Also all the leaders in WW are former ww members that have lost the weight. Does anyone know is this the case with the Unislim leaders?

    Thanks

Still would be good to hear peoples experiences of their classes though - thanks.

I joined online this evening. 3 months for the price of 2 until end of Jan. Have a stone to lose to get my BMI down from 25 to 22 which is recommended for my height. They have a forum but it seems to be very quiet...

Not use if it is the done thing (mod to advise?) but there is a very active Unislim thread on www.rollercoaster.ie on the weight loss discussion board. There are at least two leaders who post there and are great about answering quick questions between meetings. There is a unislim leader who has a great page on fb - she posts up a lot of recipes (Unislim Fiona Lycett) - there is something called Unislim Chat as well.

Just to answer a few of the op questions.

    1. The leaders need to have lost weight themselves - they then meet regularly and get weighed in themselves.

    2. There are lots of recipes on the unislim website - I find it hard to use but usually use the search function to find recipes. I also google recipes using allrecipes.com and other websites - I used the free food lists and programme and just adapt recipes as I go.

    3. I'm sure all leaders are different re the class structure. I'm a member in Bray and find the leader great! She sends us emails in between classes and emails us the class talks and recipes etc.

I joined ww on and off over the years and always fell off the wagon when I lost around 18lbs. I find Unislim great as don't get obsessed with counting points, you need to count your carbs and be aware of what falls in other protein/yum category. I eat a lot from home so would find Unislim more difficult if I was grabbing sandwiches out etc - WW is easier for pointing up branded products etc.

Hope this helps - would be great to get a bit of a unislim chat going here. I'll try and post up a few recipes later.

    Hi all,

I'm thinking about going to my first meeting on tuesday. I am currently 12 stone and want to lose 2 stone... Is there anyone who has been in the same boat as me & has Unislim worked for you?

Diamonds11, you could try and count it out but impossible to count the fat used etc. You could roughly estimate the amount of calories and then subtract off what ever you are allowed on the plan (say 400 for a main meal) and then work it out in terms of YUMS. 1 YUM is 50 cals. My leaders advise if you have had a blow out chinese is just to draw a line under it. Don't under eat the next day to compensate, drink plenty of water to counteract all the salt and maybe up your exercise. If you have stuck to the plan the rest of the week you will be fine. Probably doesn't answer your question but hope it helps!

I promised before to post up a recipe - I've nicked it from Unislim Fiona's page -

CHICKEN, LENTIL & SWEET POTATO CURRY (Serves 2)

    Ingredients:
    • 2 chicken fillets, diced
    • Handful of chopped mushrooms
    • 1 pepper (any colour or a mixture) chopped
    • 200g of sweet potato peeled and diced
    • 80g of red lentils
    • 2 tins of tomatoes
    • 1 cup of chicken stock
    • 1 Table spoon of curry powder & 1 tablespoon of turmeric
    • 1 small onion chopped
    • 2 cloves of garlic crushed
    • Spray oil

    Method:

    • Spray a large pan with low cal spray and fry off onion, chicken, mushrooms, pepper, garlic and sweet potato.
    • Add the chicken stock and curry powder, turmeric and mix through.
    • Add the tinned tomatoes and lentils, transfer to a casserole dish and place in the oven for about 40mins.

If you have a slow cooker this is a great recipe for it. Just brown your meat and sauté your veg and place in the slow cooker with all the other ingredients.

1 carb per serving. All the other ingredients are FREE. Enjoy.

I was thinking of starting a Unislim thread like the Weight watchers one. Didnt think there would be many doing it for aome reason!

I used to follow the Weight Watchers plan and lost a stone. I stopped going in November because college work was getting on top of me and my diet was the last thing on my mind. I got sick of counting points and figuring all the points out! Have now put back on 10lbs since I left :(

So I joined Unislim with my mam last week. Just heading out for my WI in about ten minutes!

I think its a much easier plan and I feel stuffed ALL of the time!

It remains to see if I have lost any weight now. I dont even mind if it comes off slower. If its something I can stick to Ill be happy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭Geansai Rua

Well I was down 2lbs which is great!
I had a Chinese on Sunday night after work so I dont feel deprived in the least :)

How is everyone else getting on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭itsnotmyname

Well done Geansai ...thats great. I've been losing 1- 2lbs per week since I started. I agree with you....theres lots of choice, and the food you are allowed actually tastes ok :D not lots of messing about measuring stuff after the first week either. Good luck

HI ALL ,i think starting a unislim thread is a great idea cause I'm gonna join tonight! Dabbled in it last year but never really committed to it. I have about 17 or 18 lb to loose and feel really crap right now, so could do with all the encouragement i can get:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭approve

Well I joined:eek: Scary weigh in but at least I've started. Had a pretty good day today too. Watched my carbs and went for a 4 mile run with the girls after the class last night. Have had to go to bed early tonight though to avoid temptation!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭Geansai Rua

    Good luck @approve.

It gets easier and you will figure out little tricks to make yourself feel that your getting treats all of the time!
Mine is Hot chocolate; Options belgian Choc made with skimmed milk.. YUM! :)

fair play to ye, i've been going 3 weeks and down a pound a week, despite some heavy weekends, but i've given up wine and bulmers and now drink vodka with diet cranberry juice. am finding it hard to cut down on the carbs but i need to keep working on it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭approve

Well done Geansai rua, thats a great loss. I havent been perfect this week but theres a huge improvement on what I wa eating. Just back from a 4 mile run too so heres hoping monday shows me a good result:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭approve

Today wasn't great either:( Have realised that my eating goes out of control when I'm very stressed.....need to take deeper breaths and stay calm! Hope everyone else is on the straight and narrow.

Hi All! I started Unislim this day last week. I signed up online, 3 months for the price of 2. I won't be able to make it to any of the classes with the hours I work and other activities on after work - I find there isn't a great selection of classes, all seem to be earlier in the day rather than later at night!

I'm finding it very tough! Although it is a busy week for me at the moment so i'm hoping come next week I can stick to it more.

I'm just a little confused on how it's supposed to work.. Is anyone else signed up online??
Can you ONLY choose from the drop down menu when selecting your food?? It doesn't give much of an option, i'm on Food Max plan.. (e.g. It only has Special K Meledy.. But I like to eat the Special K Nuts and Honey, is this allowed?)

If anyone can get back to me it would be a huge help!!

Hi xLollyx, I'm not sure about the on-line version but the little book you get when you go to the meetings is great. You can have as much as you like of the free foods and certain proteins and dairy and fats. Then you choose 4-5 carbs from the list, these should be low GI where possible and then you have optional foods. Now I haven't been doing it over the last few weeks due to LIFE getting in the way but am getting back into it today cause I have a holiday booked for 5 weeks time! An average day for me following the plan looks a bit like this:
Breakfast - porridge and chopped apple (1 x Carb)

Snack - fruit & yogurt (free)

Lunch - sandwich made with wholegrain bread, chicken, salad and low-fat coleslaw (2 x carbs for the bread, the rest free except for the coleslaw which you use your yums)

Snack - nuts and fruit (nuts are counted as a fat)

Dinner - homemade spagetti bolognese (2 x carbs for the spagetti, use optional protein for meat) Add loads of free veg.

Bedtime - skinny cow low fat hot chocolate drink (yums)

You can gain more yums through exercise but to really see the weight come off fast stick to the free foods where possible and dont use any yums you earn from exercise! Hope this helps and good luck. Let us know how you get on.:)

I have done ww for a few weeks but I couldnt afford the e10 each week and I felt it was a bit much to pay to be weighed,if we got hand outs each week or meal planners like the old ww(which was brilliant)it wouldnt seem so bad,so now I thinking of unislim, does it differ from ww? any help would be great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭approve

Hi there, I re-joined unislim a few weeks ago and found it really friendly. The eating plan is sensible. I lost two and a half pounds the first week which might not seem a whole lot but I only have a stone to loose. I have missed the last two weeks due to weddings and weekends away!!! So when I go back I'm expecting to be back up:D but I dont mind cause I believe it'll come off again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Theres a lady in our class who has lost 74lbs !!! There isn't a hand out every week but they do provide plenty in the first couple of weeks. Good luck and let us know how you get on:)

Hey guys! Hope I can join ye! I joined unislim two weeks before christmas, did great the first week, I lost 4 pounds but over the xmas I have put this on and an extra two! So last week was the first time I was down since before xmas and I was down two so hopefully it will start coming off again! I find it ok, I gave up the fags a month ago and I find it hard to do both but am sticking to it. I have around 18lbs to lose. Dont know about the ciabatta, sorry, I would say it is quite high though.
