American Tea Party Movements

What are these libertarian types complaining about?

It's quite obvious that the American Dream no longer exists (i.e. big house, big cars, rebellious teenagers, affordable healthcare, affordable college education, retire to Florida @ 55).

These people think they're entitled to live like their parents did simply because they're American citizens.

Big business now owns America (you and your parents voted them in consistently). So suck it up and stop complaining. (oh and pay your taxes or we'll put you in jail).

    Two questions:

    1) What this got to do with Libertarians?
    2) Are you coming back?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Don't you think you should have started this off by telling us what tea party politics are ?

Libertarians dont believe in taxes. Neither do these Tea Party people.

The whole "tea party" name is dumb anyway. A reference to the Boston Tea party which was about taxation without representation. Sounds especially dumb to those of us from tea drinking countries.

Not me in particular but you should pay attention to your target audience when starting a thread. This is an Irish forum with the majority of people here (about 95%) being Irish or of Irish origin.

Why do you expect such people to have prior knowledge of every political movement in the United States that you draw a fancy of starting a thread about ?

What's more I don't like your tone. Your new here and if you want to make friends I recommend you leave the attitude at the door.

Why did you feel the need to make smug comments in a thread that you know nothing about then?

    Who's making smug comments ?

I simply assumed it was common knowledge that one would provide a little background info on a subject when making a thread about it.

By the way, don't you know its bad manners to ask another question with out answering mine first ?

If you've got a problem (with a thread you don't understand or another poster), a moderator can look into it for you.

P.s. you obviously didn't read the article.

There's no need to involve moderators for simple matters such as the lack of background information on a thread. And I have no problem with you as a poster, well that is a hadn't a problem untill you insulted my intelligence.

BTW, you still haven't answered my question.

Ladies and Gentlemen, and OP, there is a lovely forum over in Soc>Politics>US Politics, where you may be surprised to learn we frequently discuss United States Politics. Its true~!

Because to be perfectly honest, I don't know why you are asking After Hours, its mostly full of disinterested Irish Folk. Unless your aim was to ridicule the Tea Party Movement (which is a semi-popular hobby) but you weren't even doing that here.

The Tea Party Movement is nearly exclusively old, god-fearing, paranoid and moronic people from middle America that are afraid that Obama is Kenyan/a Muslim/Communist and are supposedly independent but only have Republican politicians defending them, as well as talk radio ideologues and Glenn f***ing Beck

Seems like you managed to miss the whole reason behind the movement.

That's right; the main reason behind the movement being a coming together of disparate groups united only by a sense of being very, very angry at something they can't seem to quite define.

excessive gov spending and growth perhaps?

It's simple really, Obama and the Democrats are pretending to deliver change. The Conservatives are pretending to be pissed off about it. Everything else carries on as normal.

Are you asking me do i believe excessive government spending is the main reason behind the 'Tea- party movement'?
    If so, no, i don't.

Regarding the 'rant of the year', just listened to it.
Is it a parody or is that guy serious?
Is he not aware that it was George Bush who had to bail out the banks, thus forsaking his and many republicans deeply held belief that 'government is the problem, not the solution', at the end of his disasterous reign?
    Why is he blaming Obama?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭argonaut

The Tea Party people are a loose gaggle of somewhat racist, paranoid conspiracy theorists. And, with the irrational fear of 'big government' they're like an entire movement of Timothy McVeighs.

They're both vaguely creepy, hilarious, and, needless to say, pretty dumb.

And when it comes down to it their ideology is a kind of right wing mish mash of keywords and catchphrases and half truths never really meant to be deeply analysed.

Their arguments are like listening to a slurring drunk at 3am.

surely they would have made themselves known before now though if that were the case, its not like obama is the first president to spend excessively

    http://www.city-data.com/forum/attachments/2008-presidential-election/21040d1212792152-what-will-you-give-up-pay-national_debt.jpg

too much coincidence that this happens during obamas reign and not bush's, right around the time that fox news is the biggest cable news network in the states

Who bailed out General Motors? Chrysler?

Who brought up Healthcare Reform for months on end while people everywhere were left out of a job?

Dont get me wrong Im a reasonable guy and I'll give Obama his chops when he's due them; but you sound like you're leaning on talking points, terribly misinformed.

i honestly don't have a clue what obama thought he would achieve with the healthcare bill, it was one of his campaign promises though so he probably thought it was better to try and get it through congress at the start of his reign rather than closer to the end of his 4 years, either way it is a poorly thought out plan

It all had to do with Supermajorities and Senatorial Elections. Long Story Short, the Democrats wanted to shove it through thinking if they didn't do it now, it would take months [irony] or years to finalize an agreement.

Thats about the time the Tea Party Movement stepped in Chronologically. They were already pissed about that iddy biddy Economy thing. But now Obama was trying to pass an unprecedented Healthcare Reform: One which would include Universal Healthcare and analyst predicted over time would cost the American People additional Trillions of Dollars.

So, with all the fuel available (Millions of severely enraged and unemployed Americans) Pundits like Glenn Beck only had to spark the match. The Tea Party Movement stormed DC, I chastised you guys about it because you never protest ;), but realistically it was such a public display of outrage it brought Everything to a screeching halt. Then the August Recess kicked in, Senators returned to their home states for a few weeks, and the Town Hall Meeting clusterf@ck happened. And so far the only thing that has happened is a lot of Americans (and interested Internationals) have been left scratching our heads because its so hard to see what the hell is going on with Healthcare. This dragged on mercilessly into Christmas, until Ted Kennedy died and that deadly Senate Seat Election of Gordon/Scott Brown. Oops begins to go the Supermajority, the Dems go damnit damnit damnit and began quickly shifting focus back to the economy, and now to the middle east, and Iran.

Oh yes, that was the short version.

General Motors? Chysler? - That would be Obama; and i believe he was mistaken to do so.
Still, it's amusing that that makes him the great 'socialist menace' given Bush's bailing out of the banks just before Obama took power.
He did it for precisely the same reasons that Bush and republicans gave for bailing out the banks; a belief that letting them fail would have disasterous consequences.
In the case of the motor industry it was more in terms of the effect on certain regions rather than nationally; especially at a time, as you pointed out, that the country was heamorrhaging jobs.
Healthcare reform is something he made very clear he would concentrating on, in his election pitch.
How does this reflect taking his eye off the ball regarding jobs?
A rise in employment is something, as he said, will result over time as his policies come to fruition.
If you disagree with his policies, fine; perhaps they will prove to be flawed.
But don't pretend that he isn't facing an absolute mess created, in large part, by his predecessor, or that the 'Tea-Party movement' is a logical, organic result of his actions; the hate was building and being stoked by some notable demagogues before he was even inaugurated.

I have no problem with him promising to reform healthcare but its all about timing. These are the most volatile the markets have been in decades, and he is dicking around with the Futures - The whole country is seasick and he's rocking the boat, basically.
And you mentioned 'talking-points' in relation to my post?

Yes, I did. You havent been following US Politics have you? No? Everything I have said comes from my own tracking of the last year.
