    Well folks,
I have 2 working dogs and am feeding them Gain, greyhound 28.
It seems ok, but someone said red Mills worker, is better.
Which one do ye all feed to your dogs, which would ye prefer?
Is red Mills better then gain?
I would be greatfull for anyones experinces on these 2 feeds.

    Cheers.

i recently changed from pedro gold to red mills, too many people talking bout pedro being poor feed,,
changed to red mills racer and found the dogs to be in better nick, they had better coats, and they didnt seem to need as much feed either, then when my supplier ran out of racer and had nothing but red mills worker left i changed to it, dogs seemed to perfer it:confused:, been on it since,, as for their teeth? i was told that a dry nut was best for them
only difference is,, my dogs are sheepdogs,

if the salt content is high the dogs will eat it , noting to do with any thing else.

dog food is the biggest rip off going.

you put salt on a tennis ball your dog will try eat it.

Im not a dog expert or whatever but I read an article ages ago which some of you guys might find interesting. Pretty much the diet is called Bones And Raw Food (BARF) or Biologically Appropiate Raw Food (BARF)... the general idea is that dogs evolved over the years scavenging for food so you should feed them raw foods and bones.... all these feeds only came out in recent years and are full of [human equivilent] of perserveatives, colours blady blah.

The article claimed that this BARF diet eliminated certain diseases and keeps the dog in real tip top condition. Like I said, Im not an expert, but I found it interesting all the same.....Anyway heres a link:

    http://www.barfworld.com/

    And heres the wiki

must take a look at the bag to see if there's a high salt content,, what would be classed as too much salt

Does the percentage protein actually mean anything unless you know what the manufacturer classes as protein? I asked the Red Mills rep at the game fair last year about the different foods as they are all more or less the same percentage make-up. He said that the cheaper foods will have protein that includes guts, organs as well as a bit of meat, the more expensive ones will have higher quality protein, a fair amount of which will be red meat. His advice was 'you get what you pay for and feed the best food you can afford'.
I am currently feeding my red setter pups on Purina Beta puppy and there is no problem getting weight on them. I give them some ful cream milk every few days as well.

I've been using eco-dog food over the last while and can't fault it. They're Irish and claim to be as good as royal canine

how long did you try them on it, was it a sudden change or gradual, starting to re-think my choice in dog foods again, but have to admit that i find the dogs are in better shape than before, they dont get enough work at the min to see how their fitness is but they are a better weight and coat

what do you mean by putting on weight? irish setters tend to grow upwards and look thin and lanky. if they have enough energy and are healthy i wouldn't worry. i usually have them on adult food at 4 months and never had any problems. red mills star off season red mills worker in the season. raw meat is the best you can feed a dog and i give it to them once a week during the season, and i give em cod liver oil in winter.

irish setter i know what u mean about setters looking gangley but this lad looked realy thin but as i say blood test an all came back clear i had a rethink on the food and made a few changes mixing two brands and some meat full fat milk every few days ect and he is looking way better .i think you are kind of spot on he got taller in a shot
