I was thinking maybe we could start discussing older TV shows, that a lot of us may have watched many years and still have memories of...

So to kick things off, I thought I'd start a thread on the show that shaped the early years of my life, Saved By The Bell.

I remember as a kid that I wanted to be exactly like Zack Morris when I grew up and always thought that secondary school would be exactly like Bayside High - you can imagine my disappointment when I eventually got there. Couple of years ago, I got every episode on DVD and always pop on an episode whenever I'm feeling down and it always cheers me up...

So what about the rest of you? Any Saved By The Bell fans out there? Anyone else have the DVD's? Who was your favourite character? Which character were you most similar to? How do you think The College Years and The New Class compare to the original series? What were your favourite SBTB moments and who were your favourite couple? Did anyone have a principal like Mr. Belding?

Friends Forever was an excellent song... That episode where they had the band is one of my favourites - it was really clever. But I honestly can't say there was ever a bad episode of Saved By The Bell (original series - new class is awful, and college years was good, but not a patch on the original series)...

As for Kelly Kapowski - I was in love with that girl, but when Tiffany Amber Thiessen went on to play a slut in Beverly Hills 90210, my image of Kelly was forever tarnished... If I met a girl like Kelly, I'd be in my element, but alas I don't think anyone like that truly exists...

I think I was always a bit like Zack - I was always scamming and lying, but when it came down to it I always did the right thing... I never came close to his track record with girls though, the lucky bastard...

I loved this show as a kid too and honestly who wasn't in love with Kelly Kapowski? Now that I think of it she was probably my first TV crush as well.

Hahaha... I haven't seen 28 Day Slater since it came out. Forgot all about it. Hilarious.

I remember hating Slater in the early days when himself and Zack were fighting over Kelly, but once he moved on to Jessie and him and Zack became friends he was pretty cool...
Think they episode where the gang accidentally killed Slater's pet chameleon, Artie and then tried to cover it up, was a great Slater centric episode...

The DVD's are only available in Region 1 at the moment, but if you've got a region free dvd player, its well worth the purchase... I got them from amazon a few years ago, but I'm sure they're available elsewhere...

You can get them here. Seen a seasons 1-3 boxset and the college years one as well in HMV.

Series 1 comes out in the UK on 22nd March - £17.99 from HMV online. I presume there's an Irish release at the same time...

i'm not ashamed to say I very much hated Screech, and that was before we found out what a tool Dustin Diamond actually is.

Jaysus.. where'd ya hear that? She had recurring roles in TV shows such as 'CSI Miami' and 'The L Word' recently, and a small role in the 'Donnie Darko' sequel. And no, she's not dead!

Diamond is a mess.. and was practically bankrupt at one stage.

But he's not doing too bad now.. due to the publicity generated by his book, sex-tape (** shudder **) and many reality-TV appearances.

A podcast I listen to hosted by comedians in LA say he's one of the biggest arseholes to work with.

Screech (diamond) is now on some reality show in the US.
Hulk Hogan basicilly got 10 or so "celebs" to becom wrestlers. Two teams were formed and "mentored" by two wrestlers. They put on a live "fight" against each other once a week that is judged by Hulk and two others, One of the losing team gets voted off by the judges.
Theres a few more well know celebs on it as well. I happened to stop on it while flicking channels a few days ago.

Kind going of topic but what is soft porn? Showgirls had plenty of sex and nudity and lacked any real storyline. For soft porn its an excellent piece of cinematic work.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar who played Zack went on to play John Clarke in NYPD Blue,didn't expect much from him in that but he played excellently. He's actually a really good actor and If they made a Save by the bell reunion I say it could turn out well if it was more mature,maybe where they go back to a ten year or twenty year reunion in the school

It would be good to see a reunion show, but there's no way that they'd do it with Dustin Diamond involved, since everyone in the cast (with the exception of Dennis Haskins) hates the guy - they could possible do it without Screech though - just have Mr. Belding or someone make a reference to why he wasn't there...
Also, I'm pretty sure Tiffany Amber Thiessen said she wouldn't want to do a reunion - thought if the price was right and enough of her fans asked her to do it, I'd say she probably would...
