Well lads my t8 mod has rusted and the top of it is starting to crack after 2 years-and i sprayed it inside and out before and after shooting so needless to say im staying well clear of the t8 in future!
I'm looking for a predator 8 with the m18x1 thread for my tikka tactical .223 but my local dealer seems to think they don't make them with that thread which is bull as there listed on the wildcat website-i think he just couldn't be bothered ordering one:rolleyes:

Can anyone please recommend a dealer anywhere in leinster(i don't mind traveling)that could definitely get me one???Im really getting fed up trying to lamp using ear muffs and its hard on the fella holding the lamp for me too!

Any help would genuinely be greatly appreciated.

    Mark

Mark, if you don't find one try looking for an A-tec, or the similar model now made by SYSS.

    Jeese that was quick john!!

I did a good bit of looking on the a-tec mod and it seems theres a lot of aluminium in there baffle design which some people say could suffer from flame cutting from the hot gasses i could be wrong but would be sick if i had to go and buy another mod in 2 years time again!

I had a good look at the predator (and i think our "cheating" buddy jeff uses one on his .243 and likes it) at a stand at a gamefair last summer and have to say there really well made.

Give Sean in Atlantic Shooting in Carlow a shout. Have a .223 coming from him and getting a Wildcat mod for it. He has a few in stock and can get more as requested.

    Sean on (059) 9179984

Directions - Head out the ring road which ever direction your coming from and head for portlaoise, when you come to the portlaoise rounabout hang left up by doyles of the shamrock keep going for about half mile, Aldi on left gunshop on right at Fraser petrol station. (Green front).

Thats sound advice ezridax,i'll give him a shout tomorrow and see can he source one for me:)
Thats not too far from me either.
Are you going for a predator mod on your .223??

He has them in stock. Like the T8 you need to have the ring/washer that steadies the mod on the barrel nurled to suit the rifle you own/buy, but he can do this for you also. I have a CZ .223 bought from him so while my application is being processed he has the mod being sent away to get done.

I didn't know much about the mods before hand, but i done a bit of checking on them on the net and found that they break down to many parts for easy cleaning and best of all you can buy different inserts to change the caliber they will fill to. Meaning one mod with 2-4 inserts will suit all rifles you own. Handy out.

Yeah i had to do that with my t8 but its a little more awkward with the tikka tatical as the last 5" or so of the barrel is thicker than the part that the bush sits on so i have to build up that area with insulation tape its a bit crude but it works!

I also did a heap of research on the predator there a really good idea and seem to be very well made. The only thing that i noticed about the reviews on them was that the threads have to be well minded by smearing a bit of vasalene on them or a bit of gun oil otherwise if left for a long time aluminium threads can seize up....otherwise i did'nt see any reviewers faulting them:cool:

One last thing i just remembered to ask ya-are you sure thats the shop number for sean in atlantic shooting??I was trying him a few times today and it keeps going to a fax machine i think.

Here is the sign outside their shop. Its the number i use so i think it still conects to them. Wonder if an internet connection being used in the shop might disrupt the phone line??? Any tech guys know this?

PS- I swear i don't work for them, just passing on some useful info.

Can i recommend using a copper grease or some other style that holds up well to high temps. You know how hot some mods and barrels can get if a few rounds are fired so you need something that won't "cook" on the threading but still do the job.

I have steyr prohunter in 243 and looking to get mod. I was thinking off getting T8 but have recently noticed that good few people giving bad reviews. I use it for deer and foxes. I have permission of super and already chatted with John Green about fitting T8 but after reading stories about them rusting not sure if i want one any more. I have read up on wildcat and see there is a steyr model, would this suit me? After hours stalking and dragging cant see myself spraying mod, as much as i would like to think i would. All suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

If anyone's interested- i have a predator 8 paid for in the local shop with a 1/2 inch thread. got it for a .243 but am having nothing but grief over the authorisation. at this stage i'm thinking of flogging it on.

I would definitely recommend staying away from a t8 mod if you want a mod that will last a few years-there a good mod sound reduction wise but there made out of thin carbon steel and don't last very long i minded mine well and it still rusted.

I probably would have bought that moderator off ya if it had a m18 thread.

i had a t8 for the last , maby 8 years . a small bit of rusting which was fixed with some car spray. did not care for it all that well , and it eventually blew off the end of my gun. i got a s5 which was a 100 euro dearer and sent it back as i dont think it was 3/4 as silent as the t8.
Got the new t8 which is 2" shorter and i think is actually quieter than the old model. if you send bach you damaged t8 back to the manafactures they will give you a new one for a 1/3 of the retail price

I did buy a predator 8 after all i have it a few months now and have to say its in a totally different league to the t8 moderator you can take it down to about 5 different parts for cleaning in about 2mins by hand and has a far nicer finish to the outside and reassuringly is stamped for use up to a .308 by the Birmingham proof house.
While my old t8 sits in my ammo safe still rusting away even though it hasn't been outside in over a year!-there a very poor design.
