    thanks! it's a glass fron a welding mask. provides about a 10-stop difference. i was happy with this except its not very sharp as it was so windy

    It's a filter in Photoshop called Polar Coordinates. Found in the Distort menu. Like everything in photoshop, there's always more than way to do things. Here's a linky showing one way.

    Maybe with the 2nd one - crop to eliminate the guy in the background and give a bit more contrast

    (here I have stuck it though PS to give a sense of motion).
