Hi, I am just wondering if anyone has started on this diet. If you don't know what it is you can have a look at the link here.

    http://www.unislim.com/features.aspx?type=1&gallery=97&article=343

I only joined last week and have found following the plan really simple which is scaring me slightly, I am terrified I won't have lost any weight at all. Basically you can have as many veg, certain types of fruit and some lean proteins as much you like. Then you are allowed 5 carbs a day and 3 fats. If you want to drink or eat any sweets or crisps etc you have to exercise to earn etc units. I have my first weigh in tomorrow and I starting to get nervous because I have heard of people who have put on weight.

I've been on it since the 13th of January and so far I've lost 7.5 pounds. :D It's grand but you need a scales to weigh your food!

I don't feel hungry and I'm not living on diet food either! I've been making my normal recipes (chilli con carne, lasange, pork chops, roast dinners etc) but using less oil and when I'm serving up having less carbs (one potato instead of three, less pasta and rice) and more vegetables.

I've been avoiding sweets because if i have one piece of chocolate I want 10 but I have been drinking on nights out and gone out to dinner a couple of times. It's a bit odd ordering side salad with your dinner instead of chips though!

I'm due another weigh in tomorrow but I'm hoping to have lost another 2 pounds. The most important thing is planning what you're going to eat so that you don't get starving!

The thing that is worrying me most about is that it seems to good to be true, I am eating an awful lot of food and I don't see how it works. I haven't eaten any sugars/fats all week so that is a good reduction but I am still eating way more than I normally do which has me worried when it comes to my first way in tomorrow.

I don't know much about the diet but from your description it seems sound. Fruits, vegetables and lean meats are calorie sparse but are very filling and nutritious. Unless you're jamming these foods into you, you're very unlikely to eat too many calories in a day.

Everybody should have a scales to weigh their food!, you wouldn't just go to a petrol station and fill up with what you reckon was a reasonable time holding the lever on the pump. Most peoples main problem is they have no idea how much they are eating at all.

Way more in apparent size, or way more calories? -2 different things. You could eat heads of lettuce all day or get the same calories in a handful of nuts!

It sounds similar to the WW zero points idea, they give you free reign over foods which are not calorie dense, so you end up getting full but with few calories.

Well I am eating alot more protein then I normally do. For instance this is my plan from yesterady.

    Breakfast
    Half a Melon
    Yogurt

    Lunch
1 Oval Wholemeal Pitta (counts as 2 carbs)
2 Slices of Low Low Cheese
    Can of Tuna in brine
    Apple

    Dinner
    Chicken Breast
    60g uncooked Pasta (2 Carbs)
    Mushrooms & Peppers
    Bowl of zero unit soup

I can have five carbs so was going to have another slice of toast but was stuffed to the seams at that point.

Well looks like it does work, I lost 4.5lbs in one week. I am delighted with myself and looking forward to sticking to it for another week.

would imagine you woulbe better off with more for breakfast here, are you very hungry before lunch?

No, I normally have my melon between 9.30 and 10.30, then my yogurt at about 11.30 and if I am peckish I will have an apple about 30 minutes before lunch. The melon really fills me up so I am not hungry at all.

That would e similar to what I eat (if I ate tuna), relax, if the diet is tried and tested you will loose the weight, you a minimising your carbs and eating more protein - this helps weight loss!! Keep up the good work and if you don't want another carb portion don't eat what you feel is enough but keep all the protein!

-4.5lb in a week is great, just remember you might not keep it up AND NEVER SAY I ONLY LOST .5LB!! A LOSS IS A LOSS!! :D

    Congrats on the 4.5lbs - that's amazing!
I started this last Saturday, and like you were at the start - I am not sure how it is going?
I suppose I will see this Saturday morning.
Its a good plan - I find it easier to manage than the WW Zero Points plan.
Have been weighing my portions of carbs all week, and cheese etc, and also been eating a lot of apples.
Try out some of the recipes in the book - I made the chicken curry tonight and it was yummy.

sounds a bit like Atkins ????.........

No its more low GI, you can still have have between 5 and 7 carbs a day depending on how much weight you need to lose. Its great because the only food groups you are cutting are the ones you don't need like chocolate etc. And its not a faddy diet its something that is very easy to live with wheras Atkins has too many side effects to mention.

I've been on it for three weeks and have lost 9 pounds. The biggest thing is that once you get used to the portion sizes, it's much easier to judge when you're eating out.

Last week, I ate out 4 times and had a huge night out and I still lost a pound and a half because I was thinking about what I was ordering when i was out rather than just picking the item with the most sauce!

    Hi,
I am going to join Unislim on Tuesday - they have a new class in Wynns Hotel in Dublin city centre at 8.30am which will be perfect for me to get to on my way to work!
I will be doing a supermarket shop on Sunday so will stock up on vegetables - any vegetables restricted on the Unislim plan?
Any foods they recommend? I want to be ready to start the plan on Tuesday so I want to be stocked up! Thanks

Nope on the new plan they are all free. Also lean chicken, extra lean mince or steak. white fish, eggs (up to 7 a week), tuna ,no fat or low yogurt, cottage cheese, so stock up on these too.

Had my weigh in this morning, and lost just over 4lbs :)
    Am delighted!
My mum is following the plan also, and she lost 2.5lbs :)
And haven't felt like I have been on a diet at all. Still having a skinny latte in the morning on the way to work.

October, you can eat as much veg as you like, as well as lean meat. Apples are free, but other fruit is restricted to 3 portions a day I think (don't have the plan here at the mo).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 250 ✭✭October

Well done, Carol! That's a great result. I'm glad I won't have to give up my morning skinny latte!!

Have been trying to do a low GI type thing myself at home but not having much success. Think I'll join this week..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

I lost another 4lbs on the plan this week and I defintely ate more than last week. I am delighted with this so far.

    It sounds really good folks.

Is there much food that you don't need to count?

All vegetables, apples, berries, melon, grapefruit are all free.
Chicken, Turkey, Lean beef & pork, white fish are free.
Also free are skimmed milk, low fat yogurt, eggs, beans, pulses, tofu, cottage cheese, prawns, shellfish, tuna.
Thats not a definitive list though - but would be the basics.

    You can also have then:
    5 carbohydrates
    3 pieces of fruit
3 servings of fats (oil etc)

There are allowances built in for other protein based food (e.g. cheese) and extras such as sauces.

I took the plunge and rejoined on Tues ..the plan seems great and more importantly, easy to follow, with none of the counting points etc!!
It seems almost too good to be true, but the scales will tell the tale. Good luck to all !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,920 ✭✭✭cee_jay

I lost 1lb this week, my mum lost 2.5lbs. I had been working late every evening this week and didn't get much exercise in and it really showed on the scales.
Had a very bad day yesterday after WI - went out for lunch with the girls from work, and then we hit the pub at 5:30 - and I can't even begin to count the number of vodkas drank :( But today's a new day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭itsnotmyname

    hey guys
had my WI tonight , and only lost 2lbs:(. I worked my tail off this week with the plan, did'nt even have a sniff of a Wispa:pac: ........and walked and went swimming almost every day. Gonna keep things in perspective though.....last week i had a morning WI , coupled with the TOM today. It'll show on the scales next week.......i'm hoping !!!
    good luck to all !!!

Filling up on good, healthy stuff can never be a bad thing! I think as long as you avoid the sweets/chocolate/crisps then this plan will definitely work - as you've now witnessed!

A diet is so much easier to maintain if you never feel hungry or deprived on it. Your list of food sounds a very decent and healthy amount for someone to be eating :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

I stayed the same but I did drink a bit too much this week and its my time of the month so I not overly annoyed. Its made me be really strict this week which is good thing so I hope to catch up next week.

I agree! As everyone always says on here: a loss is a loss!

Be proud of it and just imagine how upset you'd have been if you'd have gained or even stayed the same! 2lbs is great and is a healthy rate to lose weight at. I know it seems frustrating, but it's true when they say that the slower it comes off the easier it will be to hold off in the long run.

Work your ass off again next week and hopefully lose another 2lbs or more! If you can aim for 2lbs a week that is a brilliant and you'll be at goal in no time!

ONLY 2lbs?? Thats a great achievement - be very proud of yourself. Have you ever seen a picture of one pound of fat? Go google it and see exactly what you have to be proud of.
I had my WI this morning and more or less stayed the same - she told me I was down 4 ounces! I know myself I had a very bad week - was out drinking last Friday night and then ate junk for most of the weekend as I was so hungover.
I am going out again tonight but its given me a kick in the butt to get my ass back into gear.
What is keeping me motivated as well at the moment is "A pound a week is nearly 4 stone in a year".

Can anyone tell me how many units you use up by walking running and cycling ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

    Walking (Brisk) 2 Stars
    Walking (Easy) 1 Star
    Cycling (Easy) 1 Star
    Cycling (Steady) 2 Stars

GAPA - the new plan isn't based on Units, if you really want to start doing it I would suggest that you go along to a class and ask them to explain it.

I would but its one expenses I cannot afford at the moment, due to job loss !!

Ok, its just a little bit more complicated then the units so it would be difficult for anyone to explain it to you.

Maybe just stick with the units if they worked before, i think you got two units for a 30 minute walk on the old plan but I really can't remember.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 726 ✭✭✭dubsgirl

A unit is worth about 60cals I think.
If you read back through this thread the new plan is pretty much explained :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

I lost another 2lbs today which means I have lost 10 lbs in four weeks and its been a breeze, I can only hope the next 10 lbs will be as easy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 726 ✭✭✭dubsgirl

Brilliant Lux thats great!! fab amount to lose in just 4 weeks

I weighed in today my first week and lost 3lbs
Quite happy although think I will be going off the maximising plan as it takes far too much organisation for me.

Will be trying the regular unit plan for the next week and see how I get on with that.

I found that in the beginning but I am doing the plan four weeks now and it is habit now, I think if I had to go back to Units I would go nuts. This plan is so much easier for me.

I find the plan pretty easy as well - just have to be organised. I have been working 8-8 most days, so just have to ensure I have dinner and lunch with me to keep myself on the straight and narrow :)
Had my weigh in this morning - am shocked - I lost 4lbs. Had stayed the same last week, so think I'm down down 10lbs in 4 weeks.

not likely as its normally gets slower after a big initial drop

Well that should be the case but my experience today goes against the rule there.

Last week I gained a pound and I was pretty miserable about it but stuck to the diet and lost a whole 6lbs this week. So that means I am 15lbs down altogether in 6 weeks. I am blooming delighted with myself. I expect to stay the same next week but hopefully will shift another 1-2lbs the following week. It works out as 2.5lbs a week so not a mental weight loss each week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 489 ✭✭perri winkles

Hi this diet sounds too good to be true!

Was just wondering how much the classes are? Can you go when you want or do you have to go every week? Do you pay per class?

    Thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

Its 20 quid to join and then 10 per week after that. In 16 weeks you only get 2 holidays so you have to pay. You can do it online if that suits you better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 489 ✭✭perri winkles

Thanks for the reply. So does that mean you can't pay as you go? You have to join up for a certain number of weeks?

Do you think its possible to go to the start up meeting, just to get a feel for it, and then continue from home? Being a student I cant really afford the 8euro (studnet rate) per week :o
