First trip to Cusack Park on Sunday. Any tips on the best places to park?

Im probably not the best at this but I usually leave the car in the estate accross from Dunnes, I think its called park avenue. Most park along the Clon road but it will be desperate slow with a double header aswell id say.

If Cork beat Down we would be safe.

pretty much yes as the loser of the other game will join down , if its a draw in enniskillen then we start sweating , best thing to do is to go out and beat meath and not worry about anything else , just a shame we didnt pick any more points up on the road , a win yesterday would have us in a promotion race with meath ,

the same layout as newbridge really the ground is just off the town center so most car parks around the town center would be fairly close to the ground, best place would be in the dunnes stores car park or that area as it is only a couple of minutes walk

I think the days of teams not taking the league seriously are long gone, despite what Derek McGrath is trying to convince the media.

This current structure is by far the best, there is no other structure that has been used which is better, nor is there any suggestions on making it better. I seriously can't believe there are still people who want to change back to the old system.

So far this year we've already had some fantastic games in both 1A and 1B. For anyone who was interested, 2A and 2B even seemed to have some cracking games. With 6 knockout games, plus huge stakes relegation play offs to come, we're probable only at the halfway point in terms of quality games.

Also it seems Clare have home advantage for the play off, I don't know if it's a home and away agreement or if there was a coin toss but they say on Sunday Sport last night that it's in Ennis.

Should be a close game but home advantage might swing it for Clare. Would ye say ye are any way close to knowing the best 15 yet?

Don't worry about Mcgrath he's covering his arse with the media because he doesn't do criticism. Agree fully about the league system,it has been the most competitive for years. Attendances are up aswell so why change it. The only ones complaining are some of the managers!

Not surprising given the experience of last 12 months I would say.

I hope they have a reasonable season this summer. Hate to see them go out the back door after this year.

The Sherwood restaurant just across the road from the pitch in the shopping centre would be a good place for lunch before the match. Or YOLOs which is about a 2 minute walk towards town.

If you're around for a pint before/after the match I'm sure a former GAA Mod would be willing to pay for same pint ;)

    Hi folks,

Please forgive an Offaly man straying on to your turf:)

I was at the Sligo v Offaly football game last Sunday. The game was preceded by a NHL game between Sligo and Longford. I didn't see the game but I saw in the programme that lining out at corner forward for Sligo was an Alan Markham from the Kilmealy club. Is that the same Alan Markham that played for ye in the late 90s onwards. If so then how old is ? I think he played in the 02 AI final v Kilkenny ?

    Just curious !

Alan would be 38 now, he first played for Clare in 98 I think, he's 1 of the top appearances for Clare. His cousin, Brian McMahon also from Kilmaley was on the Clare minor team of '97 and played for Sligo, didn't hear of Alan playing for him, he's selector for the Clare minors.

I'm sorry I didn't see any of the game now (didn't even know it was on !)

I imagine he is head and shoulders above anyone else in Division 3b.

Wouldn't know to be honest, he hasn't featured too much for his local club in the last few years, think he came out of retirement for the relegation playoff last year, I think he spent some time in the states as well.

Markham was fairly decent, played mostly as a forward and as a wingback. He had a great game in the All Ireland semi final 2002 (gosh I cant believe its 15 years now!). That was a great day for us.

J@ysus 15 years, I feel old. That was a great day out, we had a decent team then, nice mix of young and old, pity the old guard were held onto for too long.

That video would make you nostalgic.
Granted it was an All Ireland semi-final but it seemed to be better atmosphere in the crowd than you get at 99% of games nowadays. :(
Fair play to Markham to be still playing some form of hurling. He had a lovely style.

Atmosphere, between Waterford and Clare back then there was hatred. I remember leaving after the 04 first round when they gave us a proper trimming and having Waterford supporters gloat at the win, Clare supporters just laughed at them saying "We'll always beat you when it counts" and it shut them up. The following year in the Park I think both sets of supporter knew that the good times were coming to an end though.

Just got to watch the match from the weekend. Very disappointing result in the end. Very poor last 10 minutes where we just ran out of gas after looking in control of it.

Hard to win the game anyway when the ref is rooting for Waterford. He was atrocious especially in the first half. Gleeson should have been off and it's such a pity he has a filthy side as he is a superb hurler. Dillon was fouled 3 or 4 times and got nothing and then had 2 awful frees called against him. And then right at the end of the half, mcinerney should have had a stone wall free but Waterford got it.

Another 2 soft and stupid goals cost us really. Has happened in almost every game that we have given away a soft goal. Serious question marks on Dillon for me but not sure we have anybody else for the position. Seemed to be in control of a lot of situations but then switches off on others and gifts scores.

Another solid game from Mcinerney on his comeback, Morey solid once again, podge outstanding in the first half especially and shanagher is causing plenty of problems.

Conlon has been very quiet the last few games and still unsure how Malone is still getting a place.

We are certainly doing a lot of good things in games. Need a bit more composure at times and then be ruthless and finish a game off. Panel is quite strong now so hopefully a big performance on Sunday and get the win to stay in division 1.

I remember being at this game with my dad. Waterford started the game well and built up a few points of a lead. I remember an old Waterford supporter in front of me interlocking his fingers and sitting back with his hands behind his back soaking it in after every Waterford score! He wasn't doing it too often towards the end of the game!

I'm almost certainly going to have to leave before the end of the hurling and probably won't make it early enough to have one before.
But sure when Meath play Clare in the Liam McCarthy, we can meet up for one ;)

If you are going to be in before the football and leaving before the hurling I'd say you'll have no problem getting parking in Tesco right across the road from Cusack Park.

Another solid game from Mcinerney 1.

What was the Gleeson incident? Thought the ref was poor alright, I assume the McInerney one was where two players tackled and fouled him around the half way line and the ref ruled against him? Because there was one late on and not sure if it was Fitzgerald or McInerney but they caught Moran in the hand and they were livid giving away the free. Think a few of the Clare lads lost the head a bit at the ref. Kelly, Podge, McInerney and possibly more all at different times were losing it and that is in itself a discipline issue.

Ye played some nice hurling though, certainly if ye can keep improving it should be a much better championship than the last few years. Would think ye'll beat Limerick and being in a Munster final for the first time in 9 years in itself would be a big result.

Agreed, but you missed the worst one of all, Stephen Daniels at the throw in where he pulled three times, with the last one being a foot and a half off the ground and the ball 10 yards away!

this was extraordinary right at the end of the first half.
the ref threw in the ball and watched as Daniels flailed like hell with the ball yards away for the last pull.

Imagine a player in a Waterford v Clare game not getting sent off for pulling wildly at the throw in, surely that would never happen....

I do agree though, he was lucky.

Funny thing about the throw in in 98 is the first foul was by the Waterford 9 who swung with 1 hand while holding Baker off, Browne (foolishly) tried to get in front of Lynch at the start and ended up about 10 yards away after a dunt of a shoulder, he went whining to the ref of course. Waterford got a free for Lynch hitting a Waterford player and then Browne taunted Lynch, silly man taunting Lynch that day, he nearly ended up killing him.

Thought Gleeson should have got a second yellow for a chop on fitzgeralds hand just after he passed the ball off. Think it's just before Daniels got a yellow for what I thought was a harmless foul.

Move on now anyway but I'd hope for better refereeing going forward.
