Having an individual from the time wouldn't be a problem, but since 95 EVERY manager has had a connection to the team

    Ger Loughnane - Actual manager
Cyril Lyons - Squad member (starter up till League final)
    Anthony Daly - Captain
    Tony Considine - Selector
    Mike McNamara - Selector
    Ger O'Loughlin - Corner Forward
    Davy Fitzgerald - Full back

That's 6 different managers all linked to the same team

Still don't see the issue to be honest.
Some of those managers were good, others not so good - as you'd expect if you looked through the lasty 6/7 managers in any county.

If they're all linked to the same team, glad that it was at least a successful one.

Because many, if not all of them, subscribe to a philosophy and mindset cultivated in those years. Moloney and O'Connor represent something different, a different perspective and a different emphasis.

Why did the hurling produced by their all conquering teams come from them, and not one of the '95 era personalities who completely dominated Clare management teams for the previous 10+ years?

It's not a question of anyone connected with '95 having nothing to offer, it's that there's obvious value in a different approach such as that provided by Moloney and O'Connor. And they are clearly something different.

Looks like it's down to the 2, I see this as a good thing, neither would be a bad choice and will bring something to the table, I wouldn't be upset with either option.

I dont really agree with this. Ok yeah Davy's teams are an example, I suppose Daly maybe, but there's not much examples where he has used a siege like mentality to teams he has managed. Lohan I would definitely disagree with, I know lads on the UL team said he is fairly calm manager. I dont think the Sparrow and Ollie Baker's teams subscribe to the 95 philosophy either. Mike Mc and Considine did, but they are yesterdays men.

I think Daly knows if he gets the job he has an obligation to this team and the supporters to bring back a bit of enthusiasm and buzz to championship performances. I think he has put forward a good mamagement with Dunne involved, he with look to play the game in a positive manner.

GAA GPA All Star Nominations - Football

    Midfielders

    1. Brian Fenton (Dublin)
    2. Peter Acheson (Tipperary)
    3. Matthew Donnelly (Tyrone)
    4. Gary Brennan (Clare)
    5. Paul Conroy (Galway)
    6. Colm Cavanagh (Tyrone)

With only 1 All Ireland finalist (and that 1 also nailed down for the first midfield slot in the All Star team and probably Player of the Year too) the remaining 5 are all in with a shout for the second midfield slot in the All Star team. Of that 5 just 1 All Ireland semi-finalist and 4 All Ireland quarter-finalists.

After the year he's had with league and championship, Gary Brennan has to be in with a better shout than some of the other 4 for the second midfield slot in the All Star team. Hopefully he is selected. Would cap a great year for him and Clare football.

It looks like Davy Fitz is well down the road of being appointed new Wexford manager.

The very best of luck to him.

Officially confirmed as Davy the next manager of Wexford. I wonder what type of expenses he would get for travelling from Clare to Wexford a couple of times a week.

.... no, no, he is doing it for the good of his health. ;)

All just stadard mileage, nothing to see anywhere, sure everyone knows he lives in the lighthouse at Loop Head/Kinvara.

The man has never worked a day in his life but has a brand new vehicle every second year, nah nothing wrong and don't be saying there is sure that's only bullying

It seems Anthony Daly has withdrawn from it now...I guess that tells us who will take over?

Had heard yesterday that he hadn't even put his name into the hat!! Why leave a cushy number getting financed by JP

Surprised to hear that he didn't throw his hat into the ring. Does that mean we can't trust the independent any more after they wrote about his proposed backroom team?? I'm presuming that he isn't the remaining selector on the Limerick senior ticket so another year with the minors is in store.

I'd imagine he did the maths and figured it'd be a close race, in that case it'd be a nightmare for whoever won, by staying in the sidelines he'll get the gig next.

County board executive couldn't help letting their personal grievances corrupt and fu*k up the process. Happy for Donal Moloney. Best man for the job in my opinion. But the board as usual disgraced themselves and Daly deserved a lot better.

Sounds like an absolute cracker of a game in the football final. Delighted cratloe were able to get the draw. They really deserve some silverware out of the season.

12 points to 1-9 for cratloe

yeah great final in the park , although the passing went astray with both sides late in the game but that was down to tiardness more then anything else , the game was played at a ferocious pace up until the last ten minutes , cathal mac for cratloe with 1-05 and keelan sexton with 0-5 for kib were probably the best on the field

cahtal macs free in the dying seconds from a difficult angle will keep cratloe alive for another week , agree on the sentiment that they deserve a county championship on effort in both codes , but i doubt they will agree with the proposed 6 day turn around for the replay , especially with conor mcgrath still out and anton mcfadden going off injured , also it would be a tough ask for some of them to play 5 weeks in a row , whoever wins the replay will be a threat in munster for any team too i would imagine

the highlights will be on TG4 tomorrow night for anyone away from home ,

also just on the county final , was it a random head count they used to count the attendance today ? there must have been more then double the announced attendance of 4000 in the park ? with both seated stand/sidline area full and a fairly packed riverside terrace there must have been a case of one for the clare gaa three for me with the people collecting the money out on the gates

he will always be in the running in the future he is an excellent manager but in truth it is only fair to offer the job to donal and gerry first , they have brought these lads through from under 14 development level so they deserve a few years in charge , the big question i have is why is donal og still hanging around

Was there a big row at half time? Peter O'Connell had something about it on twitter

yeah , for some reason both teams had to use the main (old ) tunnel , since the construction of the stand both teams usually have separate entrances to and from the field , john galvin clashed with one or two of the kilmurry lads and all hell broke lose , it was hard to see exactly what was going on but one of the kilmurry subs got sent off as a result , it was'nt a dirty game just that one incident

“Ever since I left the Clare job in 2006, it was always my dream to go back and manage my county again. But I also believe that we need unity in the county now and I don’t want this to be a divisive contest with Donal and Gerry. They did a brilliant job with a lot of these players at minor and U21 level. They won three All-Ireland U21s in-a-row, which was a massive achievement.”

Anthony Daly explains his reason for pulling out of the race to succeed Davy Fitzgerald as manager of the Banner hurlers.

i think its a no brainer that at some stage he will get the job again , the vast majority of clare supporters have huge time for him and his statement shows just why , he is a top man in fairness and could see that his appointment could cause a divide somewhere down along the line

possibly the next cork manager if things under kingston dont improve next year , he is surly one of the best "outside" managers in the country something that cork need if you ask me and sooner rather then later people will get sick of nominating nicky english and liam sheedy for every second job in the country when they are clearly not interested in inter county management , dalo on the other hand has no time for being idle

County board top brass will oppose him, but he's unlikely to have a challenge as strong as the Moloney & O'Connor again. Also a question of if he will be the right man for the job down the line. The two lads will represent a bit of a culture change and if they are successful we could be looking for someone cut from similar cloth.

But we'll see. Two years is a long time in sport.

the county football replay is set to be replayed on the 23rd of October , the winners will play either dr crokes (if they win the kerry county championship) or club champions kilcummin the following week at a clare venue

If it's sponsored then he should be paying BiK on it and also wouldn't be able to claim full expenses.
