What is the longest time you have spent downloading something?
Right now...Im into day 2 downloading something.....
But when you are...do you carry on roaming the net...slowing the download...or do you leave it alone and hope it goes a little quicker?

I left a large, completely legal ;) file downloading for about 3 days once. A friend of mine used every opportunity to leech a ~5gb torrent from a single seed with a bad connection - took him about a year and a half.

A couple of months. It was a fairly big file with only one seed. I thought I deleted it from utorrent as soon as I realised it only had the one seed. Only realised months later when utorrent flashed up saying it was completed.

I can get 5gb in 20 mins so i dont care about your problems :pac:

back in the good old days, 15 hours for a 1.2MB ROM of an SNES game. But what a game.

Actually I cant even remember what the game was. Couldve been megaman. That was a steep phone bill though.

With AlphaWave EVERYTHING takes about 6 weeks to download! Don't even try to watch a YouTube video! As for streaming...whats that???

Sorry... wrong thread for this rant :D lol

On topic, I've often (With AlphaWave) spent upto 3 / 4 weeks downloading anything thats over 1GB in size! (With a PC on 24/7)

Spent a few weeks downlaoding a 35G file which only ahd 1 or 2 seeders at the best of times. Was worth it in the end though. I've waited weeks to get my hands on an obscure film or show and as mcuh as I hate the waiting the sense of delayed gratification is immense once you watch the bloody thing.

Several days on 56k downloading a music video file (I had paused and resumed a number of times), ended up the zip file being corrupted. :(

About four hours downloading spiderman 3...may not be a long time...but it was probably the biggest waste of time..

Ah lord Jesus, I remember the day when ye did have to use a download manager to get anything over 5mb down in one sitting. Mp3s used to take the best part of an hour to download, by jaysus you'd make sure what your downloading was worth listening to back then by god.

Says the last person who uses torrents to share stuff. Torrenting died many years ago. Get yourself a bluddy share account.

OK, I'll own up, I felt sorry for her. Her Saturday Nights seemed to be made up of her getting tarted up and then not actually going anywhere, a bit like her post one-hit career.:P

21 days. IT was a slow downloading 20 GB file.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,231 ✭✭✭✭ejmaztec

There are the odd files that take literally an eternity, and are never finished. I found the one and only torrent for a 600mb file that I was looking for, and didn't notice, until I reached 98%, that the other 20 or 30 people all had 98%. The one with the 100% had fecked off, and never came back, despite my waiting three weeks - bastard!:(

    Took about 6 hours.

A paltry 14 or so hours compared to some of you...downloading an online game and patches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,904 ✭✭✭cian1500ww

About 8 hours downloading about 5 games from Steam.

Back in the good ol days of 56k, downloadin durty videos (based on description alone) on kazaa lyte (p2p) - I once waited 36 hours for the "Pammy and Tommy Lee" sex tape.

When it was finally finished I closed the curtains and threw it on. What insued was a middle aged man sitting in a chair for about 20 mins reading a paper, occasionally looking up to the camera and saying things like: "This has gotta be fairly frustrating... how long did this take to download" etc etc.

    :mad::mad::mad:

Hah, back then I can remember plugging in the 56k modem trying to download 100MBs. You'd have to leave the computer on all night.

These days a TV show season is usually more than 5GB.
When I get a slow download rate it can take up to three weeks to download a full season. I just leave it downloading in the background.
