Those people could probably bankroll the entire country with their loose change. Still, if it makes them feel good about themselves whilst they back slap each other in front of a worldwide audience, who am I to question their motives?

Why don't all those rich gimps just give a couple of million each? It's pocket change to them. Simon Cowell and Bono are organising a record. Cnuts

    Lack of publicity that way.

Many celebrities and wealthy individuals have donated some of their own money though, but there's less media coverage of that than a huge "Live Aid" type concert. For instance, Sandra Bullock gave over $1 million of her own money (and fair play to her, has to be said), and most people haven't heard about that. Thing is, she seems to genuinely care about the people and not the publicity. Though some in the concert have also donated substantial amounts of money.

    Oh dear god.....

How the hell do you know they aren't doing this for the good of the people in haiti. They aren't being paid and they're performing for charity. So what if it benefits some peoples egos, atleast they did something.

Just switched it on to see Bill Clinton talking about his honeymoon in Haiti with Hilary Clinton, 35 years ago, shortly followed by Madonna doing an acoustic version of "Like A Prayer".

Shortly before that was Stephen Speilberg taking a donation call & mumbling something about generators, followed by an interview with a survivor who, quote, "has not recieved medical attention, but still look beautiful".

Just have it on now. Saw Sting, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and Madonna singing. Stars like Julia Roberts and Stephen Spielberg answering phones.

A doctor was talking there now about some of them using hacksaws and vodka for amputations:eek:. What do they do with the vodka? Pour it over the wound to sterilise it or do they give it to the victims to sedate them? Jesus! You'd need to give someone an awful amount of it to knock them out. How would you be feeling wakening up. Doesn't bear thinking about:(.

wonder if they're also accepting money for all the iraqi's they've killed and the palestinian war they're funding

Had to turn it off when Madonna appeared, she irritates me so much its actually quite frightening.

The more I watched of it the more annoyed by it I got. Why cant they just sing their own songs instead of trying to manipulate the watching public into digging deep into their pockets by singing the saddest songs possible. And dont get me started on the phone calls between the celebs and Joe Public! Waiting for Bono to appear any second to announce that hes talked to God and that its all fixed up and we can go to bed!

Use the vodka to clean and sterilise.

Most of the celebrities performing have donated, AFAIK, Beyonce donated $500,000. There all just trying to raise money for such a tragedy, which in my opinion is a very kind thing for them to do. There giving up there spare time, especially the people in London, where Beyonce is. She performed her song at rougly 2:30 a.m. in the morning like.

Poor Beyonce, having to stay up late on a Friday night & having to root around the back of her couch for some spare change. Must be horrific for the girl.

Well she didn't have to bother her arse. Nobody is saying what a hard life she has, just fair play for turning up. Don't see why people are giving out about the celebs answering the phones and performing. They've probably all donated, and I'm sure people will call to donate just in hope of talking to a celebrity, so there are benefits.

That really worries me,just shows people will give to anything a celebrity is involved in,I'm sure the money will help no doubt, but it still worries me about society in general.

Cripes Bono looked liked a dirty uncle, edging up to Rhianna, then given the Gerry Adams stlye 'I know what yr doing, Mr. Dirty Uncle, but I won't interfere' look by Jayzeeee, then completey ignored by the Edge!

Not a bad tune though. Not bad at all.

What worries me most about society is how people can forget what actually happened in Haiti, and instead get some jollies trying to be funny by putting people down.

What was that all about? It must be for a part. Maybe he's playing one of those Chinese Mandarins with the long pointy beards.
Or maybe him and ms Jolie are going through a weirdo phase. She is a weirdo anyway. Every man she's with she makes him do weirdo things with blood and stuff.
I'll have to go to bed, I'm talking sh*te.

when have i ever said that i have no sympathy for what happened in Haiti?,when have i been putting people down who don't deserve to be put down?,the whole thing is a complete circus, pats on the back all round.

All those people criticizing, seriously shut up. I'd like to see you donate $500,000, its not as if she was forced to do it, she did it of her own free choice. And the point being made is that Haiti needs to recover from the earthquake, and medical care is immediately needed, and they are doing there bit to help, unlike all the people moaning about it.

Nah that's rubbish. Dont believe that at all. If this was a just a telethon with no celebrities or performances, people wouldn't stay tuned in. If they're not tuned in, there's a significantly less chance of them donating. I personally wouldn't have donated but for the fact that this was on, watched a few minutes and rang the number. So if you have to call it a circus, at least its one with a useful purpose.

And what's so bad about George Clooney thinking "hey I can use this celebrity status I have to do a bit of good, generate interest and awareness of whats going on. People will tune in if I ring everyone I can and get them to appear and hey maybe I can get a few of those who tune in to donate"

Have you exhibited anything of the sort on this thread? Yeah it is a circus, but a singer is a singer, thats what they do. They're not doctors who can fly to Port-Au-Prince to save lives, they can do what they do best and help raise much needed funds. It is pretty sad that people will donate because of that concert but that's life. Use any advantage.

If you don't like it don't watch, it's that simple.

The mark of a true, proper & just society is that those who are unable to look after themselves are looked after by those who are able to do so.

The fact that charities even exist, only proves that we have failed as a human race.

No-one should ever have to go hungry, no children's hospital should ever have to rely on donations from the better off & no human disaster should ever have to rely on the crumbs from the tables of the over fed.

The fact that we have hugely overpaid superstars to blind & remind of this fact, shows us that we have failed in the basics. We pay them more than we do the cost of building small nations daily & then fawn to their appeals like fools.

Haiti is just another reminder, or should be another reminder to us, that we, as a society, have failed.

The proof of that would be posts I've seen here & every day in AH.. one about poor billionaire Beyonce staying up late, then an earlier thread about someone feeling more empathy / sympathy for the dogs who live with homeless, than the actual homeless people themselves.

    Seriously - what the f*ck?

Where do people's priorities come from these days - the tabloids? Hollywood? X-factor?

So what, just admit we've failed and move on? Nobody said "ah poor Beyonce staying up late", just a "fair play" for turning up, in that she could have gone to bed. And before you jump down my throat, I'm not recommending her for a Nobel Peace Prize for not going to bed and turning up to support a cause.

Nobody's recommending any celebrity for a f*cking knighthood, get a grip. People are just saying fair play for bothering to do something. What's so bad about that? Like it or not, whether its morally correct or not, celebrities garner attention, and at least it's being used to raise a few quid for a huge disaster.

I never doubted that the money is going to good use,but do you not think that they're taking advantage of the situation?,Beyoncé for example could donate 500,000 as stated and make back a personal 2 million in further publicity afterwards,i mean i'd love to see how much Bono profitted after live aid. They're all *****,doing a selfish deed and portraying it as a selfless deed,i dunno,i support haiti but not they're little publicity stunts,i'll be giving my money to other schemes but not through theirs thats where i stand after watching the programme.

Yeah - move on, till the next disaster. Pass the next bucket, when our hospitals run out of cash. Have another whip round when a family can't afford treatment for their kid with lukemia.

Anything but address the real issues.
