Ok so I don't know much about American football but I've read up on the rules and I really want to get into the game and the best way I see of doing that is to support a team. Now I used to live in New York so I guess I have to pick a NY team. :p For that reason I want to know your opinions on the Jets, are they a good team ? Do they stink ? And/Or am i wasting my time supporting them ?

Jets are an entertaining team. They have a great defense, a young and talented quarterback and a blabbermouth coach.

If you're absolutely sure you want to support them instead of the Giants then here are a few players to look out for.

    Darrelle Revis, Cornerback
    Thomas Jones, Running Back
    Mark Sanchez, Quarterback
    Bart Scott, Linebacker

Stick with your team, no matter what decision you make. It'll be far more rewarding for you as a fan. Nothing beats the hope and heartbreak of the NFL.

Well, I like QB Sanchez, but they have one problem that will be hard to overcome. I can summarize it in one word: Chargers!

I don't think my comments on the Jets would help the matter so I'll say nothing, they would be very biased and unfavourable to say the least.:D

The thing is you don't want to seems like a glory hunter, so to an extent the Jets is a good team to pick. They're good to watch, have some great players and the future is bright. Plus you have a small connection in you lived in NY for a while. Nobody could complain with that!

Don't listen to him, the Patriots are evil and must be destroyed!

As a Jets fan you can look forward to many years of underachievement and disappointment, punctuated by the odd year of promise when the team actually looks good ok and makes the playoffs, only for it all to be snatched away to leave you with a sense of underachievement and disappointment. I found the first 15 years or so were the hardest.

Dont think there is that many Jet fans on here and we have suffered some very poor teams and coaches and deserve a few minutes gloating. We all know that they will find a way to break our hearts before the season is out.

The Colts, they've got this young, unproven renegade called Manning at QB, could be interesting to watch him develop

If you got any football mad relatives you can pick a rival team to annoy them. I support the 49ers since they beat the seahawks in '02

Failing that watch a few games see what teams you like to watch?

P.S Packers are going to become a fantastic team (as much as it pains me to say it)

Please dont pick the patriots people will secretly hate you :D

Pick a team with a story. I'm a Ravens fan and its good to have a team with shortcomings aswell as features. My team destroys the patriots then just 6 days later gets embarrassed by the colts.

I think the Vikes could be an interesting team to support next year (and they're my backup team now that the ravens are out) as I think such a great receiving core, running back, D-line but with a big gap at QB (if favre retires) makes for great drama throughout the season.

To echo what people say though once you pick stick with that team for better or worse. Its much more entertaining that way!!!

So, I didn't get to see the entire match last night. Who won in the end ?

It still feels weird hearing that about the Vikings post-Moss

The Jets, 17-14. You have to become a Jets fan now. :D

I started supporting them in the mid-80s when the QB was Ken O'Brien and the kicker was Pat Leahy. Added to that they played in green so I (wrongly) assumed there was some Irish connection and so I became a Jets fan. The important thing, as someone already said, is to stick with the choice you make, no matter how painful it may prove to be (I'm a Leeds fan as well, so I know all about pain :D).
