Alternative to a MINI

I want to buy a 2 door car with some street cred. I have a car that qualifies for scrappage so it has to be something that I can get the money off. A Mini is too expensive and the base model has nothing in it. Any suggestions?

I've seen loads of Skoda Fabia's floating around with the white tops on them and styled on the mini! Weird

Mito if 500 is too girly. I'd love a nice high spec diesel 500. If you want to think outside the box a little fiat panda 100hp would be great fun I'd say

I was just on Alfas web site and the Mito is only 14495. I thought it would be way more expensive

Buy what you like - not what other poeple think you should buy (and won't buy themselves).

In my opinion, there is no such thing as 'street cred' -get the car that you like, and suites your needs.

Plenty of good sugestions in this thread.

 Why do the twingos in that pic remind me of Lupos!!

the mito is a gorgeous little car, and its an alfa :D

find one, test drive it, you'll be hooked.

EDIT: Also, consider the Fiat 500, another cracking Italian motor

Fiat 500 Abarth - The residual value of it will be reasonable compared to a twingo. The abarth is actually something that very fun to drive and will hold it's own against any of those other supermini's.

Even if you don't want to splash out on the Abarth, a nicely spec'd 500 would be a good choice.

Having said that, what I'd do if I was you is buy a secondhand Mini Cooper. Lovely car, plenty of room for 2 and highest residual value of any car out there. So much fun to drive, it just sticks to the road. I owned a Cooper for 18 months and loved it. I actually miss it at times. :o

OP wants to make use of the scrappage scheme

OP wants to make use of the scrappage scheme

Yes but no harm in making him aware that perhaps buying a use car would be as good value wise as making ue of scrappage scheme on a new car.

    Amazing value in 2009 cars.

OP wants to make use of the scrappage scheme

    Hence why I was recommending a 500

I thought we were getting past the whole plate vanity thing anyway? Perhaps not...

Me ? Abarth - no contest

OK, maybe the Mito. Same family though, so they must be doing something right !

Well, as a suggestion to a 2 door car with "street cred".

Superminis dont get you street cred. They get you sly remarks about your sexuality from insecure morons IMO.
