Skinny jeans. Bad as they are on women... They look dreadful on men. Makes the ass look like a bag of water tied up the middle with a string.

See, I used to think this, but in hindsight I think it depends on the guy - some can actually pull it off.

I hate the shoes with the really pointy toes that men wear nowadays. Its a certain kind of guy who wears them and I'm not sure he'd be my kind of guy!

Clothes that have clearly been bought by his mother.
    Tracksuits outside of the gym.
    Jersey Polonecks.
He thinks he is a gangsta rapper trouser syndrome.
    White socks.
    Shoes with buckles.

I don't know...admittedly some guys can look ok in them but it's not the best look outside of the gym. I briefly dated a guy who wore them constantly, he didn't look bad in them, but the fact that there wasn't a hope of him getting into a decent bar wearing one kind of said it all...

Shiny track suits, skin tight tees, skinny jeans, ripped jeans...at work on a building site or doing the gardening or at the gym fine, as general attire they do less than nothing for me.

    Judgemental people?

YOU asked specifically what clothes turn me off a guy, I'm being honest, not judgemental. Do you find everyone equally as attractive irrespective of hair colour, height, teeth, fashion sense? Ooooooh, how judgemental of you.

My OH would seem to agree; I've got a pair :p
I assume you mean the trousers with a rib, well several actually. Good for this weather because of that.
Anyhow, she hates them. And they're a lovely dark green :P

    So, imagine this:
We're out some day and she insists I need new trousers; Which I don't; I mean there stuff in that cupboard that hasn't seen the light of day since we bought them.
The reason is that I do a manual job, so I don't wear 'nice clothes' at work, & the hours are long (I wouldn't ordinarily be home by now) so for the couple of hours I'm home I'll change into baggies.
So there I am in the store, having a look at some stuff and she comes up to me with her suggestions:
"What do you think of these?" she asks.

Guess! (but admittedly a cream coloured one)

WHAT?! I love Skinny jeans... i live in them!! And when guys can pull them off...YUM!!!

Ben Sherman turns me off. I don't care if it cost €70, you still look like a chav!!

Doesn't really bother me as long as he has a sense of personal style and knows how to dress himself - as in, knows what suits him, has a bit of pride in his appearance.

That said, anything taken to extremes is a bit of a turn-off. Extremely goth, extremely indie, extremely punk... Understated is better IMO.

tracksuits of any description, skinny jeans, man jeggings, seen them in topman earlier, they should be illegal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 682 ✭✭✭illiop

proper runners! unless he's going for an actual run or to the gym or something they just look silly. And cardigans, i think they look hilarious on guys...well sometimes they can get away with it but they're usually the same guys who get away with skinny jeans and they're few and far between.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭Orla K

I hate white runners, and so many people are wearing them, I don't understand how people can like them.

Tracksuits, other than the gym, lazy day at home or something messy like painting they should not be worn.

For some reason suits, I can't explain this one, A nice shirt is good, a tie would be pushing it and add a jacket to it and I'm no longer interested.

Also soccer jearsys, mainly because I hate loud noises and soccer supporters can be very annoyinly loud.

Really? I just love cords on men, especially very dark brown cords. Beige cords are bad, though.

What I don't like is almost anything with an obvious logo or name brand right on the front. If you're going to be a walking billboard for a company, you should at least get paid for it.

Also, I don't like what are known where I am as "guido" clothes. Shirts open to the navel, lots of gold chains, pointy two toned shoes, bling, flashy belt buckles, shiny pants...generally men's clothes shouldn't be too shiny.

I absolutely hate skinny jeans, won't go near a guy in them. They look horrible on girls and even worse on guys. Most other things I wouldn't mind, except skinny jeans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭LimeFruitGum

    Turn-offs:

    Big farmer jumpers
Tracksuits or soccer tops when not in gym or at home. In particular, I loathe those grotty grey tracksuits from Lidl.
Rosary beads around their neck when in a pub
    Poncy hats
Tight pants when he has no arse to fill out the back ;)
Baggy clothes that swamp the body.

I love seeing guys in a smart suit or in a funky t-shirt with combats. Looovely
Some guys can really work the skinny jeans/cords look well, so if it suits his physique and personality, then great :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 697 ✭✭✭chocgirl

I don't even mind skinny jeans, I live in them myself so couldn't begrudge a guy wearing them. I do think though that not very many guys can pull them off well.

Yeah cords are my only biggie, think it is the standard cut that most cord wearing men tend to favour. They seem to go baggy at the knees and fit really loosely. Oh and the selection of colours, beige and beige and tan and there's always some snotty green colour and an evergreen. No, not for me. They tend to be worn with awful farmer jumpers too. Just can't stand them.

All of these! Also, white runners outside the gym. Football/ GAA shirts; in fact, nearly all branded sports clothes. I'm sure there's others but I can't think of them right now

I actually really like cords on guys. Also, Converse are always a win.

That would make it even less attractive, tbh. If you are going to pick someone to copy and make a fashion statement with, don't end up looking like Ali G, would be my advice. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭jenga-jen

Man jeggings!? Please say it isn't so....

    Personally it's:
    - tracksuit bottoms that go in tight at the end
    - matching football tracksuits, top and bottom
    - waistcoats, even the 'fashionable ones', espec with rosary beads *shudder*
    - skinny jeans worn ridiculously low slung off a lad's ass revealing boxers, we know they fit you, we can see your....wallet...through them

And OP, you asked!! Try not to get offended if any of the responses hit a nerve!

Skinny jeans worn with pointed shoes. Russell Brand style.
Trilby hats. Espiecially when it's tilted to the side.
The white socks over tracksuit bottoms look.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,145 ✭✭✭SarahSassy

Dirty clothes and I dont mean working clothes... Nothing worse than a dirty man....

Oh and the manky white sweatshirts and baseball hat brigade with the big signet (sp?) ring on the fingers... Do they not know how bad they look????

Ohh no i hate those shoes! they give me the heebee jeebee's!!
Really baggy jeans where they stop half way past their butt cheeks, why oh why?? :p

Jeggings are bad on everyone imo. +1 on the y fonts.
Also, the absolute biggest turn-off is guys who remove trousers before socks. Bare feet are kinda sexy but there is nothing sexy whatsoever about a guy in socks and boxers.
    /me shudders

Can i just jump in here for a minute and say how delighted i am to see the female populace hate most of the clothes i hate too.
Waistcoats, Cardigans, trilby hats and those stupid pointy leprechan shoes are everywhere in shops. River Island mannequins look like they fell out of my grandparents wardrobe. And you're right there is a certain type of person that wears them:rolleyes: Same kind of person that was going around in a Hilfigger jumper with the shirt collar out a couple of years ago thinking they were Seth from the OC.
Not a big fan of Collared t-shirts either (too preppy), and as for those collarless t-shirts with buttons. yuck.
I must defend the tracksuit bottoms though (black retro adidas ones with white stripes) they're comfy :D and look good with a skater-type hoodie and a pair of Vans. Okay for during the day.

I love seeing guys in a smart suit or in a funky t-shirt with combats. Looovely

    Ah, memories!

A guy I used to see wore those shoes all the time, thinking he was cool! They were awful.

On a drunken night out, a few of us were sitting down at a table ... A friend of mine grabbed the point of his boot and said "What the f*ck is that all about?!"
    We laughed for ages! :pac:

I hate skinny jeans. Unfortunately my OH loves them :(. We've had several ...eh... "disagreements" about them. He's very tall and thin, so they look better on him than they do on most men, but I still can't stand them. In fairness to him, he rarely wears them now when I'm with him because he knows how much I hate them.

Tracksuits are also manky. Any skanger-y type clothing is a turn off really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,430 ✭✭✭GiftofGab

Do girls really hate cardigans? I was thinking about going out and buying a light cardigan for nights out, over a nice shirt. I would have second thoughts if girls hate them. Trying to impress the ladies, not anybody else.
