Some recent doodles, sketches and things, some of which were completed while zoning out during lectures. One of my lecturers crops up twice as a result. :p

I haven't posted a poem in ages. Here's one I wrote when I was getting ready for the Leaving Cert.

    Situation Critical

    There’s something in the air,
    I can feel it,
    Something there
    That might suggest that
    A fight could be
    On the cards tonight.
    It’s not just me:
    I have seen the eyes
    Flicking round
    And darting down
Like raindrops ashamed of their clouds:
    Static in the sky
    And tension in the atmosphere
    Building up.
We could get thunder in here.

    Too many strangers
    With too little space,
    Exams and life’s stresses
    Worry every young face.
    The smallest noise
    Could be the trigger,
    For every big boy
    There’s another bigger,
    The walls are too close,
    The ceiling’s too low.

To wait, to measure landed blows?
Or to get out, escape, go?

Here's an owl I drew tonight! I'm hoping to do some kind of background for him, but I'm not sure what yet... maybe lots of branches and trees in soft focus. Backgrounds intimidate me, I rarely ever draw anything other than creatures and characters. :p

One of my finished book covers for my vis-com ranking project... probably won't present it but I do love it!

The book is The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

I've a disturbing itch to write at the moment....

The ground beneath you seems so distant,
As you daydream some hopeless escape,
To follow Icarus and leave these lands,
And care not of your certain descent.
For all you seek is a moment
When the wind will carry you on,
And the brave new world awaits you.
It begs you to take it.
You beg it to take you.

But in spite of your dreams and mythologies,
Your feet still hold you down.
The sun sets the tranquil day ablaze,
From the orange haze emerges night.
And the day gave you chance to run,
Whilst you dreamt of taking flight,
And we lost our chance of escape,
Distracted by unfulfilled plans you made.

EDIT: Another night. That same itch.
Firstly I heard the voice as it echoed so softly.
Creating some sheer beauty from the essence of sound.
It captivated minds and imprisoned hearts,
It set forth something from the souls of those who gathered.
So perfectly in key and tone, so carefully constructed,
Conformed to all rules and expectations.
And from that simple sound came forth the rhythm,
The progression, the movement, the song.

I turned around, and I saw people standing there,
Some smile transfixed on their faces as they heard the tune.
They all heard it. They all loved it. They all listened intently.
And in the fading moments, the singer grew silent,
Said something of how she thought she never could sing.
Whilst the songs she sang brought joy to those who listened.

(Do you mind if for a split-second I suspend the metaphor and told you that that voice was your own?)

Secondly I opened my eyes and arose from the dream,
Recurring. Repeating. Returning. I hear it again.
In reality the singer won't sing the songs I want to hear,
The singer says she doesn't know,
In reality I know she won't believe what I'm believing,
Now slowly in my dreams my songs become unknown.

I'm gonna regret this, but here's me doing a stupid little cover of Wonderwall after getting home last night from the UCD ball.

    My electronic tracks.

Zephyr is my best so far but there are some good ideas and tunes there elsewhere.

This summer I'm going to write a lot of new tracks.

Facebook would be handier for some. I prefer Soundcloud though, don't need to be a member to listen to Soundcloud.

I allowed myself to indulge in some nostalgia earlier today when I found this beast in a press, while looking for notes.

He was the first proper thing I ever knitted, I was in first class and so would have been about six. My teacher at the time taught me how to knit; I sometimes wonder if she was trying to train me for a life of domesticity - I was allowed to opt out of doing the work and instead spent the day knitting

By god, he's no masterpiece, with his mismatched colours and whatnot, but I love him all the same and I'm glad I held on to him all of these years :D

Not a massive fan of electronic stuff but Zephyr's pretty cool. Reminded me of the songs on racing games like Gran Tourismo and Ridge Racer.

Different version of my song Cherry Swirl recorded with a local musician.

Suppose it's a house song. I'll have to find out how to embed soundcloud videos.

I like the chords at the end of the song. I don't think they are at the end of the soundcloud or facebook version. Also has a strange beat thing going on. That's a glitch effect if anyone wants to know.

Oh dear, this thread's been steadily plunging into the murky, padlocked abyss of Boardsie obscurity. It simply won't do, so... *bump!*

I got to visit the Natural History Museum again recently, and I sketched a peregrine falcon. Here's what 'e looks like! I might attempt some of the animals on the upper floor the next time I'm there again, could be fun to try something tricky like a rhino.

My creative thing is a little bit different, but I'll throw it up anyways :o. This was my first time using my poi on fire, and it's a pretty bad quaility video (camera on my phone). When I get a better camera and when I learn some new tricks I'll throw up another video.

Can I just ask about the post processing in this photo? Is the noise from the camera or from computer? I see that the noise is generated in computer. But was it shot in B&W or is that PP as well? I'd be interested in seeing original vs. final product.

I was using a plugin for PS that re-creates film, it was some black and white film. :)

Well, I've decided to get back into drawing properly after a long hiatus, before I go to Amsterdam, so I can fill a sketch book full of cool sketches. This was just a practice run that didn't turn out too badly.

Detail and effort, it's been awhile....

    The heretic double posts!

So, I write almost constantly, and I'm thinking about pulling it all together for the first time and actually sharing it with people. Here's one of the poems I do be writing. It doesn't have a title, because my poems don't really have themes (they usually just run on and on through my notepads) and it probably isn't very readable, but in the words of Coolio at the start of Keenan and Kel: "Aw, here goes".
    A fevered search,
    For what I know,
    Lays, dimly lit,
    In glittering sea caverns;
    In pulsating reefs of colour;
    On snow sprinkled summits;
    Passing clouds
Filtering the rays of the Sun.

I dare not speak of the contrast-
    Between my mind's heart,
    And my mind's eye.
    As waves lapped
    On dry, chapped,
    Lilac shores-
    Into scabs and sores,
    That littered the beach.
    When, in an instant,
    Transformed were the distant,
    And out of reach.
    An inner peace.
    A thinner piece of film,
    Coating the brain and eyes.
    The illustrious demise,
    Of a singular shadow
Thrown across the early morning sand.

    A voice announced itself,
    Eyes made of moon that
    Swivelled on chewed lollipop sticks
    Drunkenly lurching
    And lantern-lit
    In a frothing red petticoat
    Walking into the wrenching gut
    Of the night;
    Arms aimlessly flailing
    Fingers endlessly caressing
    The liquid diamond curtain
    Back and forth.
    Reaching the cabin,
Offers me a spot of tea,
    Poured so acneously,
    I,
    Sweating kittens,
    Underneath the duvet of light,
    Realise
    I am home.

"It's all going to be alright."
    Hollow words,
    When they
    Do not issue
    From a sorcerer’s mouth.
Spirits can be frozen and torn down.
Yes, it's all going to be alright.
    For someone.
    The tethers come
    To gnaw at themselves,
    Unravelling and leaving you alone,
    It's time to go.

Out. To a cube of light
    Slotted amongst many
    In the night sky -
    Daggers in a magician’s box.
    Each room
    A perspective,
    Own history,
    The archive of your life,
    Somewhere else is nothing.
    Clasping warm mist.

    Dying projector mimics
    Water between
    Wet cobbles and feeds
    My brain
    Around the reel..
    And back onto the wall.

Thanks IO, to me it's not really poetry, but I suppose if it works it works.

Here's two drawings I did recently, since I have a scanner in Amsterdam now.

AAAAAAnnnd I also have a Soundcloud page, with some of my electronic experiments and other songs. Here's one I did yesterday for Halloween, and I'm rather fond of it, which is rare for most of the things I do.
