I thought this would be a good (albeit slightly depressing) way of keeping up with who is not fit and also finding out when other players should be back playing. Any injury updates/rumours can be posted here.

Latest news is Nick Williams has got injured again (up to 6 weeks). :(

Niall Ronan's knock (picked up against Ulster) is not serious.

Also Marcus Horan missed out on gametime this weekend, Shannon's match with UCC was postponed. Therefore, chances are Horan will not be involved this weekend against Scarlets.

Jerry Flannery should be available for the HEC match against Treviso.

Anyone know when Geordan Murphy and Jonny Sexton will be back playing?

Leinster are hopeful Sexton will get the all clear this week and be involved against Glasgow, apparently.

Ali Hogg and Jason White of Scotland are injured for the Six Nations as is Sergio Parisse of Italy.

    Good idea for thread!

This will be one of my monthly posts from now on, so I'll try not to be a stranger!! :p

Luke Fitzgerald is out for the rest of the season, although Cheika hopes to get him back towards the very end of the season.

Massive MASSIVE oppertunity for Earls in the Irish shirt, he can really establish himself now and I hope he does...there's plenty of room for him AND Fitz in the Irish backline, plus, I think Earls needs that bit more experience, and although I'm cursing Fitz's injury from a Leinster point of view, it's not the worst thing in the world that could happen from an Irish point of view!

See you in a month! :pac:

    Some news from Wales:

Stephen Jones is out for 2 weeks.

Shane Williams and James Hook are expected to return to action at Ulster this weekend. Williams has been out since the AIs.

Joe Bearman could be out for the rest of the season, massive blow for the Dragons:

Rory Best will make an earlier return than expected from injury and could feature for Ulster in late March. :)

Felix Jones will be out for 5-6 months. :(:(:(

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/munster-give-hayes-another-week-off-109162.html
One of the most disconcerting aspects of the Munster squad is the number of players ruled out long-term. Denis Leamy has been joined by Felix Jones, suffering a serious neck injury in the Connacht game a fortnight ago while Payne revealed prop Darragh Hurley is still in hospital receiving treatment on a damaged eye.

"Felix had a successful procedure on his neck," said the manager. "Unfortunately, we probably won’t see him again this season. We’re looking at five, six months, recovery time."

Among those who may also see precious little game time before the end of the season are Dave Ryan, Nick Williams, Jeremy Manning, Ciaran O’Boyle and Barry Murphy.

Great news! By the time he comes back we will have serious competition for the no.2 jersey, and hopefully Cronin will have some more international experience during the 6N too.

England prop Phil Vickery looks likely to miss the Six Nations tournament after taking longer than expected to recover from neck surgery.
The 33-year-old underwent an operation on his neck in November, forcing him out of England's autumn internationals.

Vickery was originally expected to face a three-month rehabilitation period, but Wasps now say he will not resume training for at least eight weeks.

England begin their Six Nations campaign against Wales on 6 February.
Meanwhile young scrum-half Joe Simpson, whose superb recent form had seen him earmarked as a possible contender for Johnson's squad, faces three months out of the game.

The 21-year-old dislocated his left shoulder in Wasps' game against Harlequins at Twickenham on 27 December and has subsequently undergone surgery.

CJ Van Der Linde: Should hopefully be back for the Brive game. That's what they're hopeing at the moment. Even if he's on the bench it will be good to see.

Richardt Strauss: Isn't injured... he's just not in the team at the moment, Forgarty and Jackman are better than him it seems.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭danthefan

If Jackman's better he isn't much of a signing, Jackman's lineout throwing is completely gone.

Seriously what has happened to him? It was always his weak spot but he was pretty much hitting Reddan in the head the last few games he came on in.

Unfortunately there's been a major incident in the last few days and one of Ulster's most prominent players will never be the same again....

JESUS MAN! I was in shock when I clicked the link and saw the words Ian Humphreys! You should have ended that with a smiley...!
When he walked into the gym for his weights session on Monday the forwards were just leaving. Dan Tuohy walked right past Ian, he didn't recognise him and wondered who the new player was.
    :pac:

I could have, but that would have ruined the surprise for everyone.

Update on Horan and Flannery: http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/6986.php
A fortnight ago it was expected that by the time they'd reached this week, Munster would have been counting on Marcus Horan's return to action, but again, the weather put paid to his plans for playing with his club Shannon and that lack of game-time must mitigate against him winning a 163rd cap at the weekend.

Jerry Flannery continues to make progress in his recovery from his Achilles injury but is not in contention for this weekend and thought unlikely to feature for the final Pool game against Northampton Saints.

A bit worrying if Flannery hasn't played at all leading up to Six Nations.

    News for Connacht:

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/connacht-lose-duffy-for-crunch-montpellier-clash-2009398.html

Full-back Gavin Duffy has been ruled out of Connacht's Amlin Challenge Cup tie against Montpellier on Friday night.

Duffy has not recovered from a cracked cheekbone injury picked up against Munster on St Stephen's Day and the Mayo man will be out for at least two more weeks.

But there is better news for the province concerning loosehead prop Brett Wilkinson who has recovered from a hand injury and he is available to play.

A bit worrying if Flannery hasn't played at all leading up to Six Nations.

They may yet refix the cancelled game from the weekend for the weekend before the 6N starts, so he might get a game then. Worrying alright with Best also out...

Bollox - that means Troy Nathan at fullback.

    http://www.rugby365.com/tournaments/sixnation/news/2161341.htm

France coach Marc Lievremont suffered a triple injury blow ahead of the Six Nations opener with Scotland on Tuesday as Biarritz trio Fabien Barcella, Dimitri Yachvili and Damien Traille were ruled out.

All three suffered left knee injuries during Biarritz's Top 14 defeat against Stade Francais last Saturday.

Barcella is set to be out for two months while Traille - considered a key player by Lievremont - and Yachvili, who is more of a peripheral figure on the international scene these days, face six weeks on the sidelines.

France - who have tough home games against Grand Slam winners Ireland and England - are away to Scotland on February 7.

Ah, Traille was the other one I couldn't remember.

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/archives/2009/1230/sport/horan-on-the-mend-hurley-set-for-lay-off-108657.html

GOOD news and bad news for Munster – Marcus Horan seems certain to be back in time for the remaining rounds of the Heineken Cup, but fellow prop Darragh Hurley could be out for the rest of the season with an eye infection.

Jesus, poor Hurley is luckless. :(
