Yea, just heard. Not my colour politically but I do admire him to some significant extent as he's had a baptism of fire in Finance.

I wouldn't wish this diagnosis on anyone having watched someone go through it.

    Best wishes to him.

What is that supposed to mean?

I hop he gets better soon. Terrible to hear of anyone with cancer

Wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy, and I think B Lenihen, as proven in my Rating the Gov Post, was doing a good job at a very difficult time. (unlike tweedledumb and dumber he shares the top positions with).

I wish him all the best for the future.

I hate Brian Lenihan but obviously feel a bit upset over the news - like everyone else.

Conspiracy theories start. Has he really got cancer? Is it just the government looking for sympathy?

You don't claim you've got a form of cancer with close to 0% recovery prospects to look for sympathy. I posted this here rather than AH to try and avoid this!

    Good enough for the government.

For Gods sake, grow up and show some small bit of humanity and compassion, even at Christmas time.

Whatever your party colours. We wish him health and a speedy recovery, I'm no FF supporter but I can't help thinking the last year has taken a serious toll on the poor man.

I do feel he has done his best.

guys - pancreatic cancer is the worst form - there is no known cure - only drugs like tarceva which at best extend live by 6 - 12 months -- this is just awful - he is the only good guy in the current government doninated by waisters

I feel sorry for the guy but will not resort to all the smoochy "hope he gets well soon" matter. Everyone changes their tune quickly. One minute they're whinging about the country - the next they're full of sympathy. Hypocrites.

I have acute bouts of pancreatitis. :mad:I have it 8 years now. I dont drink.

Doctors tell me it is the second most painful condition to deal with.

Even morphine doent work for me anymore. I use df118.

Best wishes to Mr. Lenihan, its not easy.

As much as I hate FF and strongly dislike Lenihan it is sad to hear this.

Could this have implications for a general election in the near future? Who else have FF got that could, or would even want to, replace Lenihan in the job of Finance Minister?

They were not meant to report on this. You would think they would leave the family have some peace over Christmas.

RTE Six One news headlines had no mention of this, although the story has been broken now. As Mark Little said:
if minister and family did not agree to release news of illness do we the public have the right to know? On day after christmas?

So you think they're hypocrites because they hope he gets better? That it would be better or less hypocritical if they hope he doesn't recover?
    You're a great little lad.

RTÉ have stated that the Department have denied these rumours.

Wonder what's going on there then?

This. Pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest, if not the lowest, rate of survival among cancers. My own grandfather died from it nearly 3 years ago. It's an extremely aggressive form of cancer that usually spreads to the liver. I'm no fan of the government but no one deserves cancer, especially a cancer that has a next to zero survival rate.

    Guys calm down please.

Anyone from now on saying that he deserved it or who cheer on the announcement of illness will be banned from this forum for a long time. I don't give a **** what your politics are, show some compassion.

Nobody's changing their tune. You don't have to be a supporter of his or FF to feel utter sympathy for him and his family. You wouldn't wish this on anyone.

According to wiki, Prognosis is usually 3-6 months survival :( 5-year survival is less than 5% :(

The whole being finance minister couldn't of helped it either..

So so sad - for BL and his family. They've got some fight ahead of them...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,228 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

45,000 diagnosed with this in the US annually, 35,000 die. hope he pulls through, actually felt he had turned the corner for me recently and thought he may have been in with a shout of taoiseach....

not a fan of his or FF politics or any other politics for that matter but its a terrible affliction. my heart does go out to him. didn't his aul fella die of some similar form back in 1995?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,673 ✭✭✭mahamageehad

Cancer doesn't know political colours or nationalities or race or gender. It's a horrible disease that shakes people to their very foundations.

Get well soon. Not just Lenihan, but all cancer sufferers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,084 ✭✭✭Barname

A personal crisis for Brian and his family cruelly used by media hacks that couldnt break an egg during the credit boom

Shame on TV3 for not allowing the Lenihan family a private Christmas

Wishing Brian well with his treatment

I guess we will need an election now. No one else in FF would be as capable in Finance.

Ahh come on now, let's not go overboard.

The guy has no background in finance and has only been doing his job for a few months. I'm sure there are a couple of accountants in FF who could take his place.

    Get well soon BL.
Im not a FF supporter, but he was excellent in Justice
I can't help feeling this last year has taken a terrible toll on him, and his family.

It seemed Cowen dumped the entire crisis on the poor man.
    I do hope he recovers.
