What's your choice of music when you're working out?

I go with some Dance/ Techno/ Decent Podcast for jogging, (Just downloaded the DJ Hero soundtrack for the faster speeds!) and then I go with Metal or Rap for lifting. Alot of Dethklok and Jay-Z, an odd but effective combination?

What do you put in your earhole when in the gym?

Dragonforce is great for running and lifting so a good all round one.

    For lifting can't beat Slipknot.

Sometimes prefer slower music for lifting medium weights, helps me lift more slow and even so i'm not tempted to throw up the weight when i'm struggling.

I mix it up. I don't really listen to fast or heavy music though, like most people.

    Usually listen to:

    Sigur Ros,
    Radiohead,
    Muse,
    The Prodigy,
    Eluvium.

I love this kind of stuff when running.

Current Artists on my mp3 player....

AC-DC, Ash Grunwald, Audioslave, Back Door Slam, Black Diamond Heavies, Burnside Exploration, Foxboro Hot Tubs, Green Day, Left Lane Cruiser, Motorhead, One Day As A Lion, Radio Moscow, Rage against the machine, Stereophonics, Street Sweeper Social Club, Supergrass, The Black Keys, The Blackwater Fever, The Fumes.

For most there are 3-4 albums, all set on random. Nothing like the feeling of "Know Your Enemy" starting randomly just as you begin HIIT.

    Rammstein
    Disturbed
    System of A Down
    Enter Shikari

The music I listen to in the gym I rarely listen to outside the gym, the exception being some heavy dance tunes.

When I'm lifting weights its usually AC/DC or other metal.

When its cardio I have more or less the same stuff on my iPod the last five years, its all dance & house and centered around fighting.

    I'm not sure if I put this in here or another forum on boards, but when I'm warming up for a fight (love that feeling) I listen to this;

Lately, Rammstein, but the mainstays are Motorhead and various WWE themes, along with some epic classical tunes.

Don't know what you mean, however I'll explain the track.

My biggest letdown in a fight is loss of concentration, so when I'm warming up before going out I listen to this track and try to focus my mind on the business at hand!...
''There's nothing to be afraid of, virtual reality will rehabilitate your mind and eventually your body
    You'll be alright I promise
    Just concentrate...
    and trust the music''

    Great lyrics.

Another track I find great for getting me pumped is Snopp Dog's 'Step your game up'.

It's a mix by DJ Tiesto, who is a well known dance/Tramnce Dj who creates some great mixes. The song itself is called "Lord of the Trance"

You can find lots of his music on Youtube and also on iTunes store.

    Best Regards,

    M

Sounds OK (the DJ Tiesto track). It reminds me of Robert Myles' work a lot though. I like listening to his collaboration with Maria Naylor - One and one:

and that sort of rap for lifting.
Running is really really really varied, from the Beatles and Stones to Tubular Bells, Linkin Park and this little doozy....

A mixture of fast rock songs and dance song for cardio.

For weights, it's purely rock music - Marilyn Manson, AC/DC, Prodigy, Guns N Roses, Evolution entrance theme music (WWE), stuff like that.

It's funny how almost all guys have at least one track from the Rocky soundtrack in their workout playlist. It just goes to show how motivational and inspirational it is.

I personally listen to the "Going the Distance" track from Rocky. I'm sure it's played in all the films, but I know it's definitely played during the training sequence in Rocky 2. Also sometimes when I'm doing cardio or something and I feel my legs starting to sting and burn I just think about Rocky during that training sequence and I say to myself "Come on, f**** Rocky wouldn't be complaining now, he'd just f**** do it."

Can't use music when lifting as it's too distracting. However I find it a god send when doing HIIT. Takes you mind off the pain :D

Just wondering whats the handiest mp3 for the gym?
I only listen to a few songs so I was thinking something small, compact and light.
    any suggestions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,230 ✭✭✭Nate--IRL--

I have to listen to gym music because i crushed my ipod, so its generally pop, dance crap with the odd decent tune thrown in.

Before i leave my house though i listen to(and watch) this, cant wait to get going after it.
