Was Mosley a fascist at the time ?....not as strange a question as it might seem. Mosley's early political career was a journey from the right to the left and back again...probably never was really a fascist in the end -more a mere opportunist who ultimately backed the wrong horse ?

Worth noting that issuing this order caused a near mutiny. Many RIC men were dismissed or resigned and at least 2 joined the IRA as a result.

Leaving the aside the highly questionable ethics of such an order it was also an act of monumental stupidity.

Its a general rule of thumb (although there are exceptions) that in any insurrection the inhabitants of the best house in the locality tend to be among the least likely to be supportive of such an insurrection. Until that is the inhabitants in question are faced with the prospect of being thrown into the gutter and left for dead ?
