Good final round apart from a disaster on the 17th. Still, top 15 after where he was at the end of his first round is a good recovery.

If he could start better he’d be right in the thick of it on Saturday morning instead of bursting up the field.

It must annoy him at times

Out in -6 and + 1 so far on back 9. A lot of Deja vu here. Starts slowly. Starts scoring well and gets up near top and momentum stops and drops back a bit. Huge 24 footer on last to get shot back

Still hanging in there. Hopefully he's the one who can jump out of the pack.

(P.S. this Amazon Christmas ad on EVERY break is doing my head in, it's awful!)

One off the lead with 6 to play. More than hanging in there.

A bogey that could mean his race is run

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,297 ✭✭✭Trampas

    Definitely his head dropped.
It seems again he gets up there and experience the nerves. As it’s a long time since he’s got over the line in a regular singles event

Reminds me of a John Fogerty song, De Javu All Over Again.

Seemed to have a shocker with the flat stick today. Missing lots of putts around 10 feet today. His routine over putts says he’s struggling. Doesn’t seem to settle over a putt. It’s like if he settles over a putt the doubts kick in so hit it before they do

    Cant seem to miss today

Then goes bogey bogey. Comes back with a bird. He really does seem to get stage fright when gets up the top of the leaderboard

Bit of a roller coaster round so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,297 ✭✭✭Trampas

Takes 4 to get down for 120 yards on a par 5 which included 3 putt from 40 feet.

    birdied 3 of last 5 for joint 3rd finish,at moment.good payday .

Good pay day and finish position but for a top 3 finish that he was never challenging the title bar a few holes on Friday and then went bogey bogey

€525,000 is a nice weeks work

Difficult to know what to make of Shane’s recent form. Fairly consistent with relatively high finishes, but seems to fall apart when he’s in contention. I still feel he has another one or more big wins in him (a major or a Rolex or Signature or WGC event), but it will probably come when we least expect it.

I think what get missed is Shane doesnt compete unless he is on his A game, unlike Rory or schauffle who are competive nearly every week ,his B game has him fighting cuts and mid table with maybe one or two low rounds per tournement. So yes he might win one or two more but generally its a battle for top 10 for him.

Eight consecutive top 13 finishes starting from Wentworth, two missed cuts all year, great consistency.

Seemed to come from nowhere for that 3rd place.

Financially speaking a hugely successful year

I wouldn't say his B game has him fighting for cuts. He only missed 2 cuts in 28 events this year with 8 top finishes! Yes he's only in contention when on his A game, but that's the same for 99% of the worlds best golfers. Except for the Rory's and Scheffler's of this world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭kyleman

He has admitted the same himself in previous interviews. When he goes through his consistent stage he regularly ends up in the top 15 in each tournament whereas Rory would be top 3 in his similar vein of form..

On his day though he can contend in the difficult course tournaments as his chipping is on another level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭coillcam

His chipping is quality, but it's not the reason he contends. Tee to green he's got the tools and putting is streaky as we know.

Lowry ups his game for big events and tends not to blow the gasket quite as easily. Putting and temperament are still his Achilles heel. The B game isn't there and I put it down to a combination of temperament and belief. If the putter wobbles and/or the red mist descends, he struggles to contain it compared to the top guys.

Regardless he can't be anything but happy with his overall performance this season. I thought there was some growth in his game and maturity. I'd hope that continues as I genuinely think he hasn't hit his ceiling.

16 years on tour now, hope the pro shop got sorted!

Fair play to him, golf has been good to him.

His strokes around the green is ranked 115 and scrambling 105. His short game isn’t as good as Sky keep going on about. His iron play from inside 150 is excellent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭Neewollah

I think the issue with his stats around the green are more linked to putting issues that his chipping. He doesn't hole as many within 10 feet as the top guys in most tournaments. His ability to get the ball within holeable range with his chipping is excellent just putting the final piece of the puzzle together tends to let him down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,430 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Those stats are a bit skewed, because he doesn't convert with the flat stick.

At Wentworth this year, after a solid Thursday, on either the Friday or Saturday (cant remember which day), but he missed 5 putts after chipping to within around 6 feet from around the green! An awful return…
