Laying up on the par 5s at augusta is nonsense talk, the length these guys are hitting it they have to take advantage. Heard work has been done and the tee on 15 is further back, interesting to see how it turns out.

Shane has the distance off the tee to go for the par5s. He was -2 for them last year. Which is not vgood. Hidetki was -11. That's the difference between the elites. He is such a good iron player and aggressive. Remember the par 5 15th LY when he through the green??

Spieth was even -12 on the par5s.

We hear it every year. The greens at Augusta. But Langer always says its the approach shots into the greens that is critical to give yourself any chance of birdies and eagles. That's why I cant see Lowry or McIlroy winning at Augusta.

McIlroy has the power (-4 on par5 in his MC), but doesn't have the irons and putting.

Lowry doesn't have as much power, better approach game but still struggles with putter.

Shane deffo has the distance as you say, he averages 300 yards from the tee each year on the PGA stats. His main problem is though he's not very accurate off the tee and if you're hitting it 300 yards but out of position at Augusta you wont score well on the par 5's!

Hope Shane gets off to decent start as previously mentioned he can be a slow starter.Nothing spectacular ,just nestling in 2 or 3 back would be ideal.

Heading towards another poor first round, gone from -2 to + 2 in 6 holes.

missed 3footer for par on 10 and I suspect it affected him, hope he can get one or two back by 18,he might not play again until Saturday with weather d way it is.

Unfortunately, just like Shane's first rounds, gone to + 3 now after 3 consecutive bogeys. There's a long way to go, but it's sad to see this happening.

That's the nature of professional golf but I suspect you're not sad at all. You only post when things aren't going well.

    We know what you are......

Was going to say Shane's putter's not behaving again and then he rolls in two absolute beauties on 17 and 18 to finish under par after two rounds.

Come on Shane, string two low ones together now!

great finish from Shane birdie birdie on 17 & 18, doesnt happen often.Think he got lucky with weather but has battled back under par from 3 over in tough conditions and is now only 6 back.

Fantastic finish today, comfortably inside the cut. Well done Shane.

I think the time changes in the US this weekend, should get a lot of round 3 played this evening.

Shane wasnt the only one with arms a loft. I was right there with him doing laps of honour around the sitting room. Great to see and she spun back in at a savage pace!

This is wild stuff . He's played the dreaded 17th island green twice in one day in 3 shots. Immortal golf history.

(The scores at this hole today have ranged from 1 to 7 )

Just loved watching that! The shot, the celebrations, the high fives with fans the whole way down to the green, throwing the ball as far as he could into the crowd, signing the ball afterwards! Such a lovely, natural guy. That’s why we all love him so much!

-6 under after 54 holes. 2 behind the clubhouse leader with the leaders still to play the last 5/6 holes. Hopefully he is within touching distance starting out round 4.

Tied 8th. 3 behind the leader. Tees off in the 4th round at 16:39

Just turned on - didn't know what was going on - where is Shane gone ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,337 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Unfortunately dropped down to 20th place at present, 2 bogeys in the first 6 holes. Hope he picks it up again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Two over through 6, not windy or difficult enough for him it seems!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,944 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Was looking forward to tonight - hoping he would have a run, a bit of a let down.

Hole in 1 a bit of a mental come down ?
