PERUGIA, Italy (AP) — An Italian court began deliberations Friday in the year-long trial of American student Amanda Knox, who is charged with murdering her British roommate.

After around 11 hours of deliberations, court officials said that a verdict would be announced about midnight Friday.

This is one of those ''so obviously didn't do it'' cases. Possibly too hot to be sent to jail?

I have been following this and I really don't know what to think, its all so strange and he police seemed so incompetent. But she seemed to be convicted before the case went to trial. \on saying that she could be guilty as well.

I noticed on the Sky news reports today they constantly refer to Meredith Kurcher as 'Meredith', but to Amanda Knox as 'Knox'. Is this down to its usual balanced, non-judgemental reporting I wonder?*

*Though I think she did it!

I'm not an expert on Italian jurisprudence but I think had she been tried in America or here even, she'd be found innocent.
Whether she is or not is a different matter.

Yes it looks like they're just trying to put these guys away for the sake of it.
They already have Rudy Guede in prison for 30 years for this. Surely they all didn't have their hands on the knife?

    Very confused

    Guilty I think she is.

There was a good article in the times magazine a couple of months back. It didnt really take sides but I will be shocked if she is convicted. One of those cases that will run and run I think. She might not be a likeable person but guilty of premeditated murder is a different issue.

The moralistic tabloids in the UK have her convicted already. I always find it strange how they take a moral ground on some peoples sex lives and then publish a kiss and tell on the next page.

Funny that, the times mag had a picture of nicole richie on the cover a few months back, looking skeletal in a swimsuit, saying it was drastically unhealthy. Then, near the back in the fashion part, had another pic (same day, same swimsuit) and a whole 'Get the Nicole Richie Look' article.

Wow that's going to be a quick verdict after such a long trial, must be guilty verdict in that case! I don't know what to think, changing her version of events so many times makes me think she's guilty!

She has guilty written all over her face but doesn't everybody these days ?

Guilty , innocent ,? I just hope it's the right verdict .I think she's guilty

    Sky News:

    Guilty

Can someone explain how a person who cracks jokes, laughs and pulls handstands in a Police station while awaiting questioning over a murder can actually be taken seriously ? Good riddance.

Sorry typo. I think they said the siblings and parents have been awarded compensation. Maybe it is the norm in Italian cases that both criminal and civil actions run at the same time.

Is there any reason why this case warrants such media persusal or am I missing something?

Lets see how far her ' Violent sex games' get her in prison!!!

According to CNN (who are doin a real hatchet job on the Italian justice system) it's to stop the guilty party from profitting. Also, a defamation(sp?) charge carries an automatic fiscal recompensation.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Beautiful protagonist + allegations of promiscuity + suspected sex games + salacious media + perverse human nature= high public interest.

A confession that was alledgedly extracted under duress and was recanted.
The case rested on 2 pieces of DNA evidence that wouldn't be strong enough to merit inclusion by most international standards.
The rest of the evidence was based on character assassination.
    A flimsy case at best.

No surprises. Sick fukcs the three of them. At least that black fella sang like a canary and avoided this lengthy trial.

    RIP Meredith.

There are grounds for suspicion. No prints or DNA samples of Knox found at the scene (Porsecution: Knox plus the boyfriend meticulously removed them all (is that actually possible??))

Also, the defense DNA specialist was apparently barred from giving evidence.

Don't you just love journalistic spin:D?!

The fcuk she is. Both her and the boyfriend changed their stories after they were arrested, turned of their mobiles in the time following the murder and had no alibi. Then the bizare antics that they pulled at the police station while awaiting questioning.

One guy was already convicted for her murder.
As somebody already pointed out how can 3 people hold the knife.?

The difference between the British and US coverage is stark alright. I expect Fox to have a poll on how backwards Italy is after this similar to the way the British claimed the same of Portugal with the McCann incident.

    Hold her down?
The victim didn't want to partake in a 4 way - the rest were on the drinks and drugs.

A vanished child is far more questionable than a media covered trial, to be fair.
