Cant really tbh!! It wasnt a concrete statement. Just an opinion. I have seen them live and i was totally in awe of their passion for music. The songs they played were played with such an intense energy. A real celebration of music.

You indie-kids make me sick with your arcade fire, I haven't heard their music nor their name spoken since their gig in 2007. Test of time my arse.

    Nonsensical post is nonsensical.

"I'm sick of hearing you people talk about Arcade Fire. I haven't heard anybody talk about Arcade Fire."

I can't think of any album I love more than Funeral. Neon Bible, for it's part, was flawed; but it was ambitious, it struck out in a very different direction to it's predecessor, and some of those songs really are beasts.

I'd say they're certainly one of the few definitive bands of this decade. Maybe even the last of the great big indies.

Wrong, killers are way better, as are the jesus and mary chain, interpol, the flaming lips, tortoise, blur, and death cab for cutie.

All this Arcade fire talk is unsettling, they're not that good.

I can't believe someone thinks Bloc Party are abysmal. Have you heard the breath of musical putput they managed over three albums? Second one is a bit dogy in my opinion but the other two are quite something.

    1.Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
    2.Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatarium
    3.Muse - Absolution
    4.Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk
    5.Bloc Party - Intimacy
    6.Blur - Think Tank
7.Bat for Lashes - Two Suns
    8.Muse - Origin of Symetry
    9.Daft Punk - Discovery
    10.Arcade Fire - Funeral
    11.Radiohead - Amnesiac
12.Bady Drawn Boy - The Hour of the Bewildered Beast
    13.Primal Scream - XTRMTR
    14.REM - Reveal
    15.Joanna Newsome - Ys
16.Antony and the Johnsons - I am a Bird Now
    17.Doves - The Last Broadcast
    18.Bjork - Vespertine
    19.The Killers - Hot Fuss
20.Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

tempted to put in Manic Street Preachers - Lifeblood

Nice list, but going by your taste I would have expected some Foo's in their somewhere.

Anyone here ever listened to "The Cat Empire - Live on Earth" album, fantastic, but then Ska isn't a massively wide genre, so it's not going to make many lists.

Killers, Kaiser Chiefs (really? really?) and Franz Ferdinand aside, few of the bands you listed are "of this decade", and most have their best output well in the past. I'll be honestly surprised if Interpol ever make anything of interest again. Whether you like them more is a subjective issue, although plenty do I'm sure - but I can think of few other currently ongoing bands of the last ten years who've had the same kind of impact on the musical landscape around them or influence on their peers as Arcade Fire.

Yep i've suffered through all of their musical output, i find that the remixes of their songs tend to be much more listenable to than the original. Gang of Four do Bloc Party better than Bloc Party ever could. Final Fantasys cover of Moder nLove to me is so much better than the original. I think it's a lack of passion form them that doesn't do it for me. But there you go, i hate them and you have them no one on your list such is the way things are.

Ok I take a small part of it back, I do like the band and that.

Just don't buy into this 'arcade fire are the be-all and end-all of contemporary music' ****e, they had a unique sound (let's face it a pre-requisite for a great band at this stage) and a few very radio-friendly tunes which got them out there. Come on, when they first appeared on the scene phantom was having chronic wet dreams.

That IS the band in nut shell. The extreme excitement over them is just completely lost one me.

And anyway, I just hope people realize that when they made the lists above entitled 'albums of the decade' what they really meant to say was 'indie-nob albums of the decade'.
And furthermore (apologies man, rant over soon) R.E.M. Accelerate was definitely better than most of the albums listed, you'd think people who are really into indie wouldn't have forgotten it, those dudes are the best indie band in the world for god's sake.

It's THEIR list, not yours. You're supposed to respond with one of your own,not make jabs at theirs with no list of your own to back it up.

Why is it just this lot that're being singled out as being beneficaries of hype? The Strokes,The White Stripes,The Libertines,Franz Ferdinand,The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and MGMT were every bit as hyped to oblivion.
And anyway, I just hope people realize that when they made the lists above entitled 'albums of the decade' what they really meant to say was 'indie-nob albums of the decade'.
Heaven forbid people posting in an indie/alternative forum should be into indie/alternative.

And I eagerly await seeing your list.

I'm a big R.E.M fan but Accelerate would be nowhere near my top 20 of the decade. Its still a good album but it pales in comparison to some of their earlier work. I listened to it a lot when it was released but i haven't revisited it that often.

Haha, I assure you it will be filled all sort of progressive free jazz fusion and ****e, the likes of which will knock your socks off!

I must relent, you're right I'm not into indie, prob shouldn't really be posting on this page. I suppose what it really stems from is years of listening to indie kids speak so relentlessly about music as a ****ing whole, and yet the spectrum of it that actually engage with it so tiny, and so often dictated by Hotpress and Channel 4 and the like (you know what I mean).

Realistically, it's not that far removed from being an X factor fan.

Nice argument, think you won it. Hitting up pearl jam in june?
    I really should be studying

At a glance through the Ipod this is a quick list of my favourite albums of the last decade. I could have duplicated bands but I decided to pick my favourite of each to let others get a look in.
