We've had lists from NME, The Times and a few others but I'd like to see your personal picks. There have been hundreds of good records released in this decade so it's not easy to narrow it down- but try!

    Mine-

    1. Cursive- Domestica (2000)
    2. Biffy Clyro- The Vertigo of Bliss (2002)
    3. Arcade Fire- Funeral (2005)
    4. At the Drive-in- Relationship of Command (2000)
    5. Minus the Bear- Menos el Oso (2005)
    6. Cursive- The Ugly Organ (2003)
    7. Modest Mouse- Good news for people who love bad news (2004)
    8. The Appleseed Cast- Two Conversations (2003)
    9. Circle Takes the Square- As the Roots Undo (2004)
    10. Death Cab for Cutie- We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes (2000)
    11. Elliott Smith- Figure 8 (2000)
    12. This Town Needs Guns- Animals (2008)
    13. Hot Chip- The Warning (2006)
    14. Life at These Speeds- S/T (2006)
    15. The XX- The XX (2009)
    16. We Were Promised Jetpacks- These Four Walls (2009)
    17. The Mars Volta- Deloused in the Comatorium (2003)
    18. The Rapture- Echoes (2003)
    19. Royksopp- Melody AM (2001)
    20. The Manchester Orchestra- Like a Virgin Losing a Child (2006)

So many that missed out but at a push, that's my top 20.

I don't really buy into this whole "uh the noughties were a crap time for music, like look the '60's (mmh), the 70's (fuf), the 80's (stop that, silly people) were like so much better."
It was more difficult for me to pick what to leave out and as you'll be able to see from my list I've hardly got 'underground' sensabilities.
Sure there was utter ****e on the radio and on the telly and in the newspapers but who cares? The thing is that in truth you don't have to look to far to find interesting tuneage.

nyways, after all that huffing and puffing:

    Kevin drew- Spirit If…
    Elliott Brood- Ambassador
    Radiohead- In Rainbows
Explosions in the Sky- The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place

You indie-kids make me sick with your arcade fire, I haven't heard their music nor their name spoken since their gig in 2007. Test of time my arse.

No one mentioned the girl talk album! I would have thought that and the fleet foxes album would be topping most lists...

    I recommend you all try

    the fratellis - costello music.

mumford and sons - Sigh, no more.

Two fantastic albums, but otherwise, i'd agree with most selections.

Could have done with some Tenacious D (first album was amazing), or Eagles of death metal (good listening stuff).

Not to mention the two new supergroups, chicken foot and them crooked vultures.

Chicken foots (Chad smith, joe satriani, sammy hagar, michael Anthony) album was pretty top notch, and from what I've heard of The crooked vultures album, sounds pretty tight.

And considering we may have EM's new album by the end of the year, too early to judge for me!!

It is of no surprise to me that none of the albums you've mentioned here are on any lists. Unless a what not to listen to. Sorry i feel compelled to reply and i know it's my opinion but the fratellis? Garbage of the highest order.

Ten - D was a gimick album albeit funny, definitely not a top album of any decade.

And the two albums from those supergroups are terribly. TCV sound like any other crappy nme band out there at the moment. No diversity and no imigination. Boring boring boring...

Super list barring Bloc party - a truly abysmal band in my opinion by the other 19 are all albums i enjoy a lot. Would have You are free as Cat's best album too...

Silent Alarm is a fantastic album and its by far their best. It may not be as good as the other albums on the list but I associate it with a certain time in my life. Nostalgia boosts it up to no 7!
As for Cat Power I just enjoy listening to You Are Free more than The Greatest, Jukebox etc. Its the album that got me into her so i have a certain fondness for it. She can do no wrong:D

You indie-kids make me sick with your arcade fire, I haven't heard their music nor their name spoken since their gig in 2007. Test of time my arse.

No one mentioned the girl talk album! I would have thought that and the fleet foxes album would be topping most lists...

To speak ill of Arcade Fire here is blasphemy:eek:

I think they have stood the test of time. They have a certain universality that it is very uncommon in indie/alternative music. If music was judged on passion alone they'd be the biggest act on the planet imo.

Fleet Foxes and Girl Talk are deadly but i wouldnt put them in a top 20 of the decade list. Def would in a top 20 of 2008 though.
