    I'm 21.

I'd barely consider going out with anyone a year younger, let alone someone four years younger, to be honest.

I just much prefer guys who are older than I am.

    Boo PIKA!!!!

Ah I'm the same. I'm 19 and I'd be ifffy going out with someone who's 17.

i find that weird cause past few weeks ive been chating to a girl who in her 30s.

Do you think when you get older you may change your mind?

    just curious? :)

I'm 32 and there's no way I'd go out with someone under 18. Isn't that illegal anyway? I'd even be reluctant to go out with a girl 18-20.

    I don't think I'll know until I'm in that position, I reckon.

Lots of women seem to go for younger men, as they get older ... There's a definite appeal of having a toy boy, for some reason!
Maybe I'll be one of those women. Depends on how life pans out! :)

For now, I definitely like a guy to be a bit older. From my (limited) experience, they know how to treat a woman better and are more mature.
However, if I met a guy who was a year younger, I might consider it ... two years would be too much, at my age, I think :/

It's not illegal to go out with anyone. It is however illegal to have sex who someone under the age of 17.

    To answer the question… no.

Have no problems going out with someone who'd be 18-19 but not under.

At 20 yeah I guess, at 20/21 I did kiss a 17 year old a few times but in my defence she was jaw droppingly stunning, now no I wouldn't go kissing 17year olds

The only girl (that I can remember) I went out with that was younger than me, was maybe a few weeks younger.

I generally go for girls a year or 2 older.

When I was 18, I was going out with a 25 year old.
I think it bothered me more than it bothered her

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 312 ✭✭Libertewhite

Girls mature quicker then guys do. I'm 20 and I've only ever gone out with one girl younger then me, and that was a complete nightmare:eek:

There is an off chance I would go out with a 17year old...but still I would wait till she was 18 before I'd be looking for intercourse.

I've generally always gone for guys a fair bit older than me.. although I did once see an 18 year old for a few weeks - the less said about that the better!!! :o I like to refer to it as my quarter life crisis....:P

well that would make sense. :)

I know this may sound a bit crazy, but i would say that its become more easyer for an older woman to have interests with a younger man possibly because of the addult entertainment industry, just an idea with the hole older woman thing.... but it seems to become more on the mind of a lot more younger men or maybe its just turned it into less of a taboo . just a thaught.

I think a woman whos 21 has the maturity levels of a 25 to 28 year old man
with out a dout in some case's intelgence being the main factor off booth sides.

If you meet an 18 year old who was as mature as you and ticked all the boxs would the age thing still be a factor ? Im just curious ...

True I used to hook up with a girl 10 years older. I suppose it depends on the people in question

For me I would not go out with somebody under 18. No way. I am 21 and the youngest guy I have been out with was 3years older than me. I like going out with somebody older than myself.

I think I would consider going out with somebody my own age, maybe at a push a year younger but I don't think I could go younger than that.

As somebody else said people born in the 90's are legal! Thats scary! My brother was born in the 90's and for me that'd put me off so much as they would be the same age as my little brother! WRONG!

i went out with a 17 year old when i was 19,befire that they'd all been a few years older.hr wasnt far from 18 though, only a month or so

I'm 18, 19 in March, first year college etc. I probably wouldn't go out with a guy who was under 18, especially if he wouldn't turn 18 for like a year or something, he'd never be able to come out to bars or anything! I can imagine the messing around with fake IDs etc. I'm scoring someone atm who's just turned 18 and only in 6th year and I get some ribbing off our mutual friends! :P

Is this open to lads too?.. I'll take it as a yeah:p I'm 15, so yeah someone under 18 would be good.:P I would be iffy about a 13 year-old, unless she was unbelievably fine and over 13 and 6 months.

I'm 21... a little while back was going out with a 19 year old... he told me he was 20 (he really did)... it didn't last very long.

Generally I wouldn't go out with anyone younger than 20... its just weird going out with a teenager:confused:

First year students look like kids to me at this stage so no to under 18. I'd probably say 20 is as low as I'd go and I couldn't see that happening either. I think I'd prefer to go out with a girl a few years younger than me because I'm not very mature for my age.

That is kind of funny considering when I was younger I was always considered mature for my age. Its a different kind of mature though in your 20's. I'd be polite to everyone etc... but when it comes to things like pensions and stuff that I think I should start putting away for, I don't know anything about those kind of things and I kind of think I should.

Of course I've been earning enough to do that until last month anyway. I'm 25 but everyone thinks I'm younger for some reason. I constantly get told I'm a student or look much younger. Probably the clothes I wear though. I'm more into gaming than clothes shopping so still wear half the clothes I had in college.

I'm 25 - I don't think I could go out with someone younger than 20-21. Going out with a teenager would really feel like I was dating a child, and I'd be really weirded out by that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

I've a sister who's 20 so the absolute youngest I'd go for is 21. Couldn't be going out with someone the same age as my sis :eek:

I'm 24 now, been going with loads of 18 and 17 year olds lately. I don't know why, they just seem really hot in the clubs and pubs and I've a young face I'm told. And.. this sounds bad, but they're really easy to score, they seem shocked when some lad actually comes up and chats them up instead of groping on the dancefloor. Friends give me loads of stick but I don't give a sh it.

Not younger than 18 now... but when I was 20 I dated a 17 year old. We were both in college though.

Now I'd probably draw the limit at 20. I'm 23 now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭waltersobchak

no definately not, a friend of mine is seeing a 19 year old hes 24 same as myself, and she sees it as a badge of honor really,to be dating a guy 5 years older(when in reality hes no more mature than she is!) personally i couldnt handle all the drama that comes with girls of that age, i personally prefer older women myself..:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,264 ✭✭✭Pretty_Pistol

Hanging around and dealing with 17 year old guys when I was 17 was enough for me. I'm 23 and I like guys to be older than me. I very much doubt I would ever want to go near anyone 18 or under.

I'm 27 (sob!) so nt a notion in the ocean of me going near a 17 year old especially as I've a 7 yr old and I'd hunt down and kill a 27 year old guy who went near her in 10 years. ;)

I kissed a 19 yr old a few times last year, for the craic like, but it would never have gone furthur than that.
Oldest I've been with is 33. So I guess I'd be open to anyone between 26 and 40. Don't mind going for the older men but not interested in the younger ones.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the half your age plus 7 rule,it works best for this age bracket!

I'm 18 and I'm going out with a guy who's 20.For about a month there's a bigger age gap,so his 18 year old girlfriend will be at his 21st birthday.I know it weirds him out a bit, but I think that's mostly due to his friends ragging him for dating a 90's child!:P:cool:

Just checked the rule there the lowest I can go is 19.

    I'm 24.(24/2)+7 = 19.

Not that it matters, already got my lady.

Definitely not someone under 18...hell i'd find it tough to hook up with someone under 21 tbqh!

I've been asked why? many times, but i just dont have an answer:( Maybe the fact i'm 28 would have something to do with it...?

Funny to see this thread, not too long ago I met a guy out one night, swapped numbers, were texting etc, getting on really, really well, until my birthday (20th:D). He was 27, think it freaked him out a bit, he cooled off seriously quick after that, shame I think, because we got on really great. But the last few guys I've been out with have all been around the 18 mark, and I'm seeing a guy now the year below me in college and was quite disappointed to find he was 19, and not 18 like I originally thought.......It's quite an age difference when you're this young, I know the boys really feel it as they're always asking 'does it not bother you?'
    Um, no!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭GirlatdRockShow

    i'm 20 and definitely wouldn't go for an u18er!
Got talking to a guy in a club lately, swapped numbers, texting, only to find out he was only 16!!! His response when I said I was 20??
"Well I'm 17 next week.do you go to colledge?"

    He looked older I swear!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,713 ✭✭✭✭Novella

I'm twenty and until about two weeks ago, I was "seeing" (whatever that means!) an eighteen year old.

I used to always think younger guys were a no go but I remember the first time I ever set eyes on this guy... It was an instant 'must have him' situation!

I was eighteen, he was sixteen. He looked oder though and tbh, when I found out he was two years younger than me, I was pretty gutted. In the end, I just fell for him and I never really thought about his age.

When I said to him I couldn't see him anymore (it never developed from more than a casual thing even though it went on for two years!), he told me he'd always wanted to ask me out but didn't because I'd once (stupidly and jokingly :() made a comment about him being younger and he thought I was seriously bothered by his age.

In future, I'm gonna keep all my age comments to myself! It really is just a number (within reason, obviously) and if I like someone and we get on well etc. I don't wanna not take a chance on having a happy ending because of the year he was born!
