Didn't expect any more from MW2 singleplayer than MW1, so felt a little let down by the last 3 levels - but along the way there were some great moments, don't feel shortchanged despite the short playing time. I'd feel differently if the multiplayer wasn't my only reason for buying it.

Spec Ops definitely a worthy addition, and extra props for keeping with a split screen option. Whole screen online multiplayer is definitely better, but a some beer and 4 people going head to head is a great option to have for deathmatches, and split screen Spec Ops ensures for the co-op synchronised sniping stuff communication between two people makes the experience a lot more fun.

However, I've fallen out of love with the online multiplayer, I'll admit it has a lot of strengths, but a hundred little grievances mean I don't want to play it anymore - though I give them a pass on the early network problems, a lot of issues are ironed out, and the game is a bit of a victim of its own success (not that that excuses much post a week after launch):

IW are adding more playlists to the game, but I was annoyed that there wasn't more hardcore modes at launch

Some perks are too essential to be left out - Cold Blooded for example. The game is totally different after rank 25 when you can completely disregard being a target for predator missiles, sentry guns, attack helicopters, harriers after the airstrike - with so many threats, the majority automated, showing up in every match I can't stand the thought of the 6-7 hours to get back to 25 if I prestige - I thought it was just right in MW1 to get to around 11 to get the UAV jammer.

One nice thing, the default classes have perks that aren't available at rank 1 - so I guess I could try reach 25 by playing every game as a scout sniper with a Barrett.

Heartbeat monitors - these seemed like a nice addition, but then most players with that attachment on their gun spend half the time essential watching television virtually.

Noob tubes - MW1 at least took a perk away if you wanted a grenade launcher. MW2 adds the Bling perk so you can have the damn thing and a sight. I think the balance was better before, similarly with other guns. Also, I play on a console and I'm still wondering why MW2 sniper rifles are so steady. With a WA2000 you barely have to hold your breath, so there's almost no risk of having the aim get wavy.

Killstreaks - this totally eliminates a level playing field. If some perks can't be done without, there are killstreak rewards I could not comfortably play to earn - namely care packages.

If someone were to go with Hardline Pro and get a care package after 2 kills they can get an AC-130. While on the other hand, you end up with other players terrified of dying because they're trying to get an 11 kill streak to call in the Chopper Gunner so they camp indefinitely. Much preferred MW1's killstreaks, and I wouldn't mind if there were default killstreaks for 3,5,7 kills like in MW1 and optional 5,7,9 or 7,9,11 killstreaks for the more ambitious. But how it is just means it gets too random for my liking. Also, I've a fundamental problem with the frequency of care packages - there's hardly a time when there isn't something threatening above.

I think most of the maps are fine, but none are up to MW1 standards. The verticality is welcome in maps like Favela which is for the most part better than Chinatown, I think Underpass is a bit of a mess though, not as good as Overgrown. Sub Base is good for team games, but it's no Bloc. Wasteland isn't imaginative, it has its moments - but it's no Bog. Estate has promise, but it's no Crash.

I gave it a fortnight's chance and MW2 has too many small flaws - I've played 60 hours and I'm done, compared to MW1 where I put in 29+ days.

Think this is spot on. Don't get me wrong it's a fun game and I'm glad I bought it, it's just that the game overall doesn't feel as satisfying as MW1. If anything it's made me appreciate the map design/balance in MW1 all the more. Started playing MW1 last night again after about a 8 month break and finally decided to prestige for the first time in any COD game.

The only complaint I have is the banning of party chat while playing on Xbox Live. I can't play a game without having to listen to a bunch of assholes scream abuse down the mic; "irish bastards", "potato pickers" etc. etc. You've heard it all before.
howver I have read they may be re-introducing part chat soon.

I am the exact opposite to that, funnily enough.

I thought the single-player was too short and the story was cack.

Agreed. I played the single player game for the first time over the weekend and I was not impressed at all. I think it's way too predictable, the story is pretty poor (doesn't bother me in a shooter though) and it is far too short. I think the Spec-Ops are alright. They're a great addition to the game, but again I don't find them too challenging so far (saying that I've only played Alpha and a bit of Bravo).

It's excellent online though. I'm delighted with most of the maps, and have been having great fun with the deathmatch games.

Being honest, I've found recently that I haven't really enjoyed many offline games, especially shooters. I thought Borderlands and MW2 were rubbish offline. Fallout 3 was the last game I played that I really enjoyed. Maybe I'm just getting too critical after all my years spent gaming, but I'm really starting to find a lot of them to be boring.

its not a bad game nor a good game im gonna put this reply as pros and cons

Pros : smoother controls, better texture, better weapons , silencers on sniper rifles ( good days :P ) , custom titles are a nice touch, 16 online maps

Cons: Still Using Pvp servers so a gd majority of the time connection sucks, DEATHSTREAK PERKS ( GRR ), you can put 2 helicopters up in the air = death , Respawn becomes a joke somtimes i just respawn and die straight away ,

Single player was short and made no sence whats so ever , too chaotic aswell ,

and i think they took alot ideas from killzone 2 , from the way they move , guns look similiar aswell, the spawn frags, sentry bot , also soap looks just like tomas Sevchenko

    Just a thought here.

But games are starting to be packaged with add-ons, I can see, downloadable add ons to continue the campaign etc.

Good idea from them, bad news for us.

Spot on. I agree totally with the points made here. The online MP has gone way beyond MW1 and not for the better IMO. Some of the killstreak rewards are ridiculously overpowered.

To all the people complaining about the kill streaks being overpowered... Do you play any hardcore modes? It's a completely different game. I know this in itself will draw criticism, but because so many people use Cold Blooded that it's not unusual to call in a chopper and get 1 or 2 kills! And really, shooting them down is not that hard.

Oh raze, even with hardline pro, a player needs 3 kills for a care package, and as I pointed out above, I'd say 2 out of 3 players on Team Hardcore use Cold Blooded. So 4 kills are required realistically by most people!

RICHIEBASSD, you can't put two choppers in the sky at once. My setup had a chopper and pave low for a while, and the pave low won't come in till the sky is clear!

Which kill streak rewards are overpowered?

I disagree. In many of the recent game's I've played, Attack Helicopters, Pave Lows, Harriers, Chopper Gunners and AC130's almost all get destroyed almost directly after they've been deployed which is basically a waste of a killstreak or lucky care package. I for one have a Javelin/Stinger as a secondary for most of my classes.

I prefer the MW2 online to MW1. After prestiging once or twice in MW1 I just got bored and left it. MW2 so far has kept me alot more interested.

I can't understand the care package hate - it levels the playing field slightly- also, if you have hardline on, you can't have cold blooded, meaning you are fodder for everything from above. So its a pretty big trade off to have a care package at 2 kills.
I have to say i like the online better this time 'round.

The single player tried to be all things to all me, but ultimately, it was ****e in comparison to the first one

ok these are my two cents.

MW2 is mostly desiged for unskilled players.
(i.e players who would suck at halo, battlefield because it takes skill)

MW2 online is designed to bring in the $$$$$$$$$ and not make hardcore gamers happy.
Its so fooooking easy to play, takes no time to acquire skills to play it.
So more "less talented/skilled" players buy it and IW rake in the money.

Take for example GoW (the first one) i spent so many hours on that game, mostly getting killed alot, yet i still played it because there was that want to be able " to pull off them sik headshots ect" to acquire that skill

In my view you cannot get more skillful at MW2 after lvl30, it just becomes luck and whether you have "talking" teammates.

    The Maps:

Too linear(highrise) no way to flank, and also on highrise, you can snipe from one spawn to another with a thermal scope easily and get 7+kills just camping there till someone kills you or the spawn swithces....come on .
Eastr egg spots = dumb idea

    Guns:
Wa2000(sniper not sure on name) HAS NO RECOIL WTF? talk about making it noob friendly.

Very low recoil on every assualt rifle and sub machine guns.
Consider MW1's MP5 that thing RANDOMLY KICKED LIKE A MULE.

    And finally
Gone are the days where you could run into a room and destroy a team, there is almost always some1 camping.....

it makes me wanna cry, it could've been such a MP good game.....

To sell or not to sell, that is the question.

Really don't know whether to hold out for decent maps or to sell it on, MW2 MP is just not up to its predecessor and I've given it enough of a go now. Very disappointing, I can't see myself buying any further COD games unless there is a major overhaul of the MP.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,494 ✭✭✭citizen_p

there is no great maps that you wat to play....alot more camping etc... from the hearthbeat monitor mainly....

(if one person on the enemy team has any sense) air support is useless

and the duel 1887 are aload of ****e

I was in the exact same boat 2 weeks ago , hence me starting this thread.
I made my decision , my copy of MW2 is on a shelf somewhere in some shop , awaiting a new home.

Back playing RSV2 again , lots of noobs playing this now everyone is gone to MW2 :D (SLAUGHTER) ...

Oh how i hope they make a new Tom Clancy Rainbow series .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 955 ✭✭✭Mister Man

RSV2 is full of noobs everyday, i was new to the game and got to elite in a day or two i believe, really easy gam

Anyway, i like MW2, killsteaks are good, camping is bad, but its just how you have to play, maps are ok, SP is good, Match making is **** but ill deal with it

Amyway no use complaining over it nothings going to be changed

My Three Favourite Maps from MW1!

In fairness, I love the weapons in MW2, and the Bling Pro is great where you can have two attachments. I love the thermal scope, and I hate the heart monitor :/.

Some of the maps are a bit samey, tho I love overpass, and I would agree with some of the posters that maps like Favela promote camping which ruins the games in my opinion.

I'd really love it if they brought out some of the maps from MW1.

I don't think the servers are much better than MW1 on Xbox Live as I get the same crappy lag in some games and as a result I have left a lot of the multiplayer games early.
Maybe it's down to the fact that I have to connect to a server in Holland (UPC) that causes some of the lag ? dunno tbh, but it's hard to get a really decent game where people can't kill you with what feels like three rounds, when you have to empty a whole clip into them to return the favour.
It's still as addictive as ever online though. I have played very little of the game itself apart from the live version.

When I play MP I get quite serious about it and seem to notice things that other people don't really mind.

Grenades: If I sneezed on someone then that would probably do more damage than the grenades & semtex. Also, not only have they reduced the damage but they've also made it impossible to throw 'nades over buildings. I know people hated this in MW1 but if you were even the slightest bit competent they were easily avoidable. Moreover, the radius of the special grenades seems to bigger than that of the the regular nades so even if you stun someone you're still not likely to get the kill with the follow up nade. Finally, the delay between throwing a stun then a nade is annoyingly long which just makes it easier for the stunned opponent to get away.

Maps: Just too big. Strike and Overgrown were probably the biggest maps in MW1, but not so big that the action was slow and it was also easy to flank. In MW2, it takes ages to get anywhere and it's likely you'll never actually get to where your going as you'll be mowed down by someone camping in the seemingly infinite amount of camping spots. The smaller, close quarters maps are even worse. Highrise for example is atrocious along with Favela. You'd be lucky to get a kill without something spawning and their reticule right on your head. Basically, I just hate the maps because run-and-gun strategies simply don't work.

Weapons: Long gone are the days when you could rush a building with an MP5 and some stuns and be the only one to come out alive. SMG's are completey redundant and if you aren't using the M16 or ACR then there's probably something wrong with you. There is no advantage to having an SMG, even at close range, as the rate of fire on assault rifles can easily match that of SMGs. Also, the little to no recoil is truely pathetic. Talk about making a game noob friendly. You can spray an entire clip of an RPD and have absolutely no recoil.

There's more stuff as well that I just can't be bothered going into like heart beat sensors, javelin glitch, the horrible snipers and the map Estate which I quit out of instantly if it ever loads up.

I've given up on the MW2 MP and have already gone back to MW1.

Cant really say I love it, its ok, is my first time playing multiplayer and I have only been playing it for a few days, so far I like it but it seems I always play the same 4 maps. In fact, there is a map I have only played once. Now I am a bit tired, also I dont like killstreaks, I wish it'd be a bit more traditional or simple...

Nah i love this game! Really do! Thought the storyline was epic and the only problem i have with the online is glitchers! But they're everywhere these days

The spawning really, really annoys me! Sometimes I spawn miles from the action and on my way back there, as you point out, someone who is camping in a window shoots you in the back.

Then there's the other problem I had on favela last night. I was running and gunning. I killed a guy, ran around the corner and there he is respawned, in prone position waiting for me to come into his sites. Bang, I'm dead.

There's more stuff as well that I just can't be bothered going into like heart beat sensors, javelin glitch, the horrible snipers and the map Estate which I quit out of instantly if it ever loads up.
Heart beat sensors are my biggest gripe of all the perks. Someone sits crouched, camping in long grass and just watches their sensor for the entire game, talk about making camping really simple!! There used to be some skill to camping in that you had to anticipate entry points, timing, weapon to use etc but this is stupid, it tells you exactly what door the enemy is going to come through and how close he is...
I've given up on the MW2 MP and have already gone back to MW1.

Actually, I played a few games last night that I really enjoyed (despite terrible lag thanks to my connection being flaky) and I'm becoming more used to the maps now. So overall, I think the online game has some huge flaws but that there is still a good level of enjoyment to be had from it. I'm giving it more time :)

    hhhmmm...interesting views.
I really like it and think it has been made slightly easier but who cares !!!!
I love most of the maps and I am loving the Witch set up at the moment.
Although the guys with the akimbo rangers are really fcukin me up at the moment..... I probably need to exercise a little more caution and stop running around like a mad man.
I do not care about my kill/death ratio as long as I contribute to the team in each game.

I can't wait for more maps.

MW2 has surprised me with some decent maps and weapons/loadouts , biggest gripes are (the whole dedi argument),camping stat whores, lack of recoil and the overpowered akimbo option(im lvl 60 now so might try it)

pluses are no lean(it works better) great weapons ,some v good maps and the 3rd person mode which is great with a few beers onboard

give it time to improve guys even cs was crap until v 1.3

I couldnt agree with you more. the same thing happen to me when I guy respawned just behind me after I killed him, I was still reloading when he blast me away (and he wasnt using an insertion flare). Respawing is very annoying, either you appear right besides the person who killed you or on the other side of the map.

Still the lack of different maps is the most annoying part, I am on level 70 and still playing, most of the time, the same maps over and over, no more than 4.

The akimbo is unfair, especially in combination with marathon pro, lightweight pro and commando pro. Those guys move like neo in matrix, very difficult to kill, and the javelin glitch is becoming more and more annoying.

And campers well, makes you have to use the heartbeat sensor, especially if you are on big maps, otherwise you will never know where they are. I like playing without it but sometimes they leave me no choice, same as using akimbo.

I am going to try MW1 multiplayer and see how is like...

I'd rather they got rid of the heartbeat sensor. Skilful use of your ears and the UAV, as well as common sense, should be your guides as to where the enemy is. I think the sensor cheapens it.

    Does Coldblooded counteract it though?

And a cautious flashbang or stun grenade (or, my favourite, a random Semtex from halfway across the map) :D
    Does Coldblooded counteract it though?
Ninja counteracts the Heartbeat Sensor, Cold-Blooded is for UAV/thermal/air support (and, at pro, crosshairs :P).

I dont really see what everyone is complaining about, MW2 multiplayer is miles better than MW1, feels like there's alot more to it and I think the maps are alot better.

I'm at college during the week so I only get to play it at weekends, I'm going cold turkey here waiting to get back home :P

I love the multiplayer game and I think it's a huge improvement on cod4.

I have a few gripes about it - chopper gunner being the worst, it really needs a nerf - but for the most part I really enjoy it.

Can't think of any maps I don't like, the weapons are far better than cod4 and more varied with better reasons to switch them out for different maps.

I really like wasteland - bout time there was a decent sniper map. I miss bog though - that was epic - RPD with grip and it's 40+ kills every time. Have to say though - the AUG LMG is a beautiful thing.
